  1. I learned how to to cook from watching Racheal Ray and the book "Betty Crocker Basics: Learning to Cook with Confidence". I think Racheal Ray even has some "Moroccan dishes" that are not really Moroccan but have Moroccan spices. Those two things kind of taught me the basics. Its just a matter of building up your confidence. Now I feel more comfortable experimenting with Algerian food.

I had all sorts of plans to cook on my trip like you Doodle, but for one reason or another they didnt work out. Its hard cooking in someone else kitchen. Oh well, hopefully I'll have the rest of my life to cook for my fiancee.

  2. OOO! There is going to be such bias in this sexing! I saw the full-body shots and the best indicators are totally crushed.. unless they can get something better under the pedasteld remains.

Oh so you think there is no way to be sure its a man and a woman? Thats very interesting...

  3. I don't know how you guys managed without webcams!!! We use them about once a week and its really great to see my fiancee.

When we get bored we search for things on YouTube. My fiancee actually found a video someone made where they were driving through the streets of Algiers holding a webcam. We start the videos at the same time and he was pointing out all these things to me. Being apart sucks but I'm really thankful that we can communicate.

  4. Hey,

I think that is just one of the big mysteries of this process haha. My SO is from Algeria and we got our NOA2 like 2 weeks after they recieved our case. Even my lawyer was surprised. I know that where you are processed also has a lot to do with it - we went through Vermont. I kind of feel that ours went so quickly because we used a lawyer but who knows? I just think our package was probably really well organized.

Just wanted to edit - I was terrified too by some of the horror stories on this website. Our case did have some issues but even with those issues things have gone pretty smoothly. Thinking of all the worst case senarios will drive you crazy - trust me I've been there

  5. I've seen some Muslim women at my school wearing hooded sweatshirts, with the hoods up and tied. I think its cool for them to explore different ways of being modest, and I think it kind of sends the message to others that Muslims can be integrated in American society, while practicing their religion. :)

  6. Hey Henia,

I have 4 years left of school, so we really didn't have much of a choice. But my fiancee is thrilled to come live here. He knows he will have a lot of opportunities here that he just didn't have in Algeria or Spain. Everytime he sees a documentary or something about the US he tells me all about it and asks "Can we visit there?" He is pretty impressed by the opportunities and the rights we have here. It has really made me think how lucky I am to live here, even though I complain about a lot of things going on in the country right now. I just hope that we can balance the good aspects of both our cultures in our family.

  7. Kerewin21 - Yeah I know I'll probably be missing these days...it just gets so tedious sometimes...plus when I think about how much longer I have to go...

Family Medicine sounds great - my mentor is in Family Medicine and always talking to us about it. It so important for people to develop good relationship with their doctors throughout their lives. Its a 3 year residency right?

  8. These stories are great! I met Mohamed while I was studying in Spain. He had moved to Spain 2 years earlier. We met Feb 3 2006 (tomorrow is 1 year!) in a cafe and were engaged when I left in June.

Isn't it amazing how lucky most of these meetings are? Me and Mohamed always are amazed that we both ended up in the same cafe in the same city in Spain and that we both knew how to speak Spanish.

  9. Hi, First thing you should do is check the Lot # of the TB test and get another test. My test came out positive a few years ago and it turns out that it was due to a bad batch of the serum they injected into. Please get another test before starting any medication!

I really don't know how this will affect you with the government, but I think after taking the perscribed medication you should be okay

  10. I have a question kind of on the topic of names...Whenever my fiance is telling someone his name he will always say his last name first. He does it for my name as well. Like for example his name was "Mohamed Eric Smith" he always introduces himself as "Smith, Mohamed Eric." Do your SOs do this as well? I kind of was thinking it was because there are so many Mohamed's that you need the last name to keep them straight.

Also a question for Muslims - are only the Arabic versions of the names of the prophets appropriate names? =
