ffunsi92 got a reaction from AU150703 in Thank you VisaJourney
Hello, I don't usually post on forums but here it goes. I first want to Thank all the staff and members of Visa Journey, without your help my wife would not be here with me. I got engaged to my wife in December of 2010 and had no idea how the K-1 Visa worked. Everyone I knew told me to hire an attorney as the process is difficult. A little about myself, I was born and raised in Somalia and my name is on a lot of wanted lists and sanctions so flying and sending money is always difficult for me until I prove who I really am. I'm stating this only because I've heard from many people along with lawyers that because of my background and name that it the application process would be difficult and long.
I applied for my wife's K-1 visa on January 11th, 2011 and it was approved by June 24th, 2011. She came into the united states November 15th, 2011 and we got married on December 1st, 2011. I applied for Adjustment of status on December 5th, 2011 and hadn't heard anything back for over 6 months. I called the customer service line to find out if anything was wrong but they didn't have an answer for me. They advised I submit a case inquiry on USCIS website which I did. I was sent a letter stating that they were still working our case. We finally received a green card good for 2 years in September of 2012. In August of 2014 we applied for removal of Conditions On Permanent Residency. This process took the longest out of all the steps. I received a letter in July of 2015 that they needed more proof to support our marriage. I initially sent 3 years worth of tax transcript, last 3 months of bank statements, health insurance cards, last 3 months of credit card statements, car registrations, and beneficiary designation on my life insurance along with other documents/family pictures, but I guess that wasn't enough. The letter specifically said that they needed 3 years worth of documents. I was happy I added my wife to all my accounts as soon as she came to the U.S. I ended up sending USCIS medium flat rate box full of banks statements, credit card statements, and many other documents. On August 21st, 2015 we received my wife's shiny new 10 year Green Card. In September of 2015 I started the Naturalization process but then I realized my U.S Passport was expired so I first had to renew my passport which I received on October 1st, 2015. We mailed out the N-400 application on October 5th and 3 weeks later we got a letter stating my wire was scheduled for finger prints on November 4th, 2015. On December 7th we received letter stating her interview was scheduled for January 13th, 2016. I kept copies of all documents I sent in with the N-400 along with updated statements which wife was going to take with her. Our interview was yesterday which was scheduled for 8 AM in the Hartford, CT office which is about 1.5 hour drive. Because of snow, accidents on the highway. and long lines of security at the entrance we showed up to our interview an hour late. The room was filled to people. We went up the receptionist and gave her the notice. She gave it back to us and stated to write on the back the reason why we were late and she would give it to the supervisor for approval. We sat down for about an hour and the lady called us to tell her that the supervisor did not approve our an interview we would need to be rescheduled but at the same time an immigration officer came through the door and called my wife's name for the interview. My assumption is that the interviewers were backed up and had just got to my wife's name. Either way we were very fortunate. My wife passed her interview. She told me the officer did not ask her for any documents at all. I am assuming because I was so thorough with the application and providing documents they did not need any more. She was first asked 6 civil questions, then she was asked to write a sentence and then read a sentence. Her Oath is scheduled for February 5th, 2016. The whole process took 4 years without any help from any lawyers.
If any one has any questions or clarification on anything. Please ask away.
