Hello everyone,
It has been a while since we checked in. Our scan date is June 26th.
On Saturday, July 15th, I was in an accident, and now my foot is broken in two places on my middle metatarsals. The medical care here in Uganda is not very reliable, and many people are telling us that I need to go back to the states to get good, safe care. It took us over 24 hours of going from one hospital to the next to just find someone to xray me and clean up the blood and broken skin!
I can not imagine traveling for 16+ hours alone with a broken, very painful foot in a non-weight bearing cast. Do you think that an expedite could be granted for my husband to just go ahead and travel home with me?
How do we go about filing for an expedite at the NVC level? I have read mixed info here...some saying email NVC, others saying email our embassy in Nairobi.
Please, any advice would be much appreciated. And any advice about caring for a broken foot would be just as welcomed.
Thanks,

If he is Ugandan, it will cost him only 5000 shillings. He needs to take a photocopy of his national ID and a photocopy of both his parents' national IDs ( if he has one parent alive, that is enough, if no parent is alive, then take for the next of kin who is either an uncle or auntie). He will be given a form to fill in, attach the photocopies of national IDs, attach the short birth certificate and then pay. It takes just one week to get the Birth certificate
Thanks so very much for the advice. We found out we can get it here in Mbale NIRA office.
We appreciate the info as we didnt know the requirements.
Have a blessed Sabbath day.

Amul, thanks for trying to get us a good answer. We super appreciate it.
Sabrob, we didnt see your earlier post about how to send it until just now.
Thank you to everyone who offered advice. We are NOT waiting the 11 weeks. There is just a little delay here to get the new version. The official website says nothing about this, btw. It says the version we have is the correct one. We only found out from a friend who is getting ready to leave the country that there is a new type.
So please, check with people in your embassy specific threads and also ask people from your country what documents they used to get their visas.
Good luck everyone!

You can send the right birth certificate before you get a checklist and include a cover sheet and a letter explaining the situation. Your wait time will reset though, so it will be 9-11 weeks from when they get the correct document.
Oooor, you can wait for the checklist, then contact the NVC and ask to talk to the supervisor who is reviewing your documents and just ask to review it since it's one document. I saw in the April Filers thread that @mmaadd636 was in this situation and it all got sorted out when the supervisor called them. I'm not sure if this applies to everyone, maybe the supervisor was just being nice since they had already been at the nvc for quite a number of months at that time.
When's your original scan date? If you don't think you're gonna lose too much time since your original scan date, go ahead and send in it now.
Edit: okay, I just checked your scan date, it wasn't too long ago. Just send in the documents asap so you won't experience too much of a delay.
Sabrob,
Thanks for the reply. So do we only send the cover sheet, letter explaining the mishap, and the correct document? Or do we resubmit the entire package? I got an answer elsewhere from someone saying to resbmit everything. That really freaks me out!

Yeah, it will restart once they receive your new documents. Since you're doing that, read the following to make sure no other changes are needed. Congrats on catching that now. :-) just make sure you include your cover page, and write your case number on every document.
Does this mean we send the ENTIRE package again? Or just the correct document?

Hello,
What is the procedure for submitting documents after we submitted our aos and iv package? We just found out we sent the wrong version of hubbys birth cert and don't want to wait for a checklist.
What are the results of doing this? Will it reset our scan date even if they havent asked for it yet?
The good thing is that we only submitted our ds-260 a couole days ago, so even if it does reset our sd, it wont be too painful.
Thanks in advance.

Hey everyone, this pertains to NVC so read it NOW to avoid the chance of a checklist there.
We are seeing that so many people from all over the world are getting checklists requesting a different version of their birth certificates than the ones they sent.
Unfortunately, we have already sent our package out last week, and we only found out today that we have the wrong version of my husband's birth cert.
Please check with your embassy specific thread here on visa journey to find out which version is needed. The people who have gone before us are our vest resources.
The official Embassy webpage for our country is outdated and unreliable, so don't count solely on the info provided by your embassy's official reciprocity schedule.
I can not urge you enough to please look up the thread here on visajourney for your specific embassy, and enquire the correct version of the birth certificate.
For anyone coming from Uganda, you must get the new long version from NIRA in Kololo. Apparently the other NIRA field offices do not yet issue these.
Good luck to you all. I know that we will all be looking back on this journey with misty eyes ten years down the road, but in the arms of our loved ones.
Thank you so much to the creators and curators of visajourney. This website is the MOST useful website I have ever come across. May you be eternally blessed for doing the important and sacred work of bringing families together.
Amen

Well, we just found out today that we don't have the correct version of my husband's birth certificate. Instead of waiting for the rfe or checklist, we consulted in our own embassy thread last night.
My question is how can we submit the correct version before getting a checklist?
-
Thank you both so much for youe timely responses. What is the cost to get the NIRA certificate, how many days does it take, and what other requirements are needed?
-
We live in Uganda and it is quite expensive for us to call NVC all the time. Approximately how many days after submitting the DS-260 will they begin to process or start counting the 8-11 weeks? Our documents arrived last week, so it was just the DS-260 that was being waited on.
-
Hey guys. We are wondering what kind of birth certificate you submitted. Is the short version from the subcounty acceptable? We just found out today that there is a "long version" you can get from Kampala at the National Registry of Births and Deaths or something like that. Is that the one required?

I met my fiance at Church in Kampala in 2012 and we became friends. She was around for six weeks. After she returned to the US we remained in contact via fb messenger as friends talking here and there. But in October 2015 we decided to Skype the first time and by Nov 2015 we started dating. from that time on we talked every single day using Whatsapp calls and texting, and also Skype. She flew back to Kampala in Nov 2016, we got engaged and she stayed for 2 weeks. She returned to the US, filed the petition on 1st Dec 2016. Thats our story in brief
Awesome. Thanks so much for sharing. I think it helped that you had known each other since 2012.
Congratulations once more!

Wonderful news! Ours was changed to paid yesterday afternoon!! Our lawyer is working on the DS-260 now and should be sending it in today or tomorrow! With them it takes a little more time because the legal assistant fills it in with our answers then the attorney reviews it before submitting. Good luck to you with everything else!
Thanks Cleon86 and good luck to you as well.

Our fee was changed to paid today! We have just submitted the DS-260. Wow, what a task! We realized some mistakes on the G-325A and have entered the corrected dates for employment and residency on the DS-260. From what we could find, it seems this should be ok. If they question my husband about it, he will just explain that the info provided in DS-260 is accurate to the best of his knowledge, and that at the time of filling out the G-325A we were rushed because we were in a very crowded internet cafe.
Wish us luck! We will be calling NVC tonight to let them know we have submitted the form.
Good luck to you all!

Hey everyone. I had my interview in Nairobi on Wednesday last week and I got approved, I got my visa and am now back in Kampala. The CO officer never asked to see any of the evidence I had brought, she simply interviewed me and that was all. We had frontloaded
That is wonderful! Congratulations to you both. Do you mind telling us how long you have been in a relationship? I am wondering if they didn't ask you much because you have been together for a long time.
Thanks

Hello you guys,
We paid for the IV fee on the 7th of this month. Today is the 12th, and it still says "processing". Is this normal? Our AOS fee was paid and accepted on the website in only two days. We are getting worried because we already sent the paperwork on the 8th, and the money has been taken out of our account, but it seems there is no movement. We don't want our package to be entered into the system before our IV application is filled out on line. Could this cause any problem? Do you guys have any suggestions for us?
Thanks,
The Goobies

We have mailed off our package! It should arrive by tomorrow around noon. How long does it generally take to get the scan date after it arrives at NVC?
Is this the part that they do not notify you about?
-
Hello,
We have just paid the NVC fees, and will be mailing our package tomorrow! How exciting. I have only one concern:
On the official website, it says "do not pay fees before they are requested as this can slow down the processing of your case."
You can only select "pay this fee" once it is requested, right? Now I am worried that we have paid early because we didn't get an IV Fee Bill in the email yet. But why would it allow us to pay early anyway?
Is this cause for concern?
Thanks, and we look forward to interacting with you all.The Goobies

Hello,
We are just starting out on the NVC process. This morning we paid the AOS fee, and we will be calling this evening (morning for the USA) to let them know. We hope to pay the IV Fee and submit the DS-260 by the end of this week! Then our papers will be mailed out. We are so excited to be out of the black hole known as Nebraska Service Center. NVC people have been much kinder over the phone than any of the USCIS jerks we spoke with. We are feeling very good about NVC. -
That is what I understood. Just got a little worried when you asked if we have them! HAHA! We don't want to miss anything or waste a second of precious time.
-
We just submitted our Choice of Agent! How exciting. We are going to call them this evening and ask them to review it over the phone. For those of you who did this, how many days after were you able to pay for fees?
Good luck to you all. It is great to see progress. -

To answer your questions:
1. Yes, include the divorce decree in the civil documents packet. Make sure your husband brings the original to the interview. This is from NVC's website:
If you are applying for an IR1, CR1, or F2A visa as the spouse of a U.S. citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident and your petitioning spouse was previously married: You must obtain evidence of the termination of EVERY prior marriage your petitioning spouse has had. This evidence must be an original or certified copy of one of the following documents: FINAL legal divorce decree, death certificate, or annulment papers.
- Send a photocopy of the petitioner’s marriage termination document(s) to NVC.
- Bring the original petitioner’s termination document(s) plus a photocopy to your visa interview at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate.
2. AOS only includes financial documents, no civil documents.
3. Yes. Are you also sending in your mom's tax returns? Are you listed as a dependent on her tax return? That's not necessary but it could also add up as further evidence.
4. I'm not sure about this, but it seems like a safe assumption.
5. Are you asking about providing some sort of information that you have an ongoing relationship with your mother while you are away? I don't think you need to send in anything regarding that.
Good luck with everything and I hope this helps!
3). Should we send my mom's tax returns for all past three years even if I have included her most recent one and the tax transcripts of the past three years? Will we need the tax returns in the interview? If so, must those be originals as well?
Thanks again!

My fiance had most of his immunizations as a child, but they weren't documented because his mother gave them to him at home. He went to a clinic and told them which ones he had and when they were and they transferred them to an immunization card that he took with him to IOM for his medical. At his medical, he only had to get three immunizations.
Lelah, is it possible for you to post a pic of that immunization card? You can black out any sensitive info. We are just wanting to make sure we get the right thing.

It's better if she does that because it's way easier for the person reviewing your documents. That way they can easily tell if you have everything/if something is missing. She should assemble them in that order, especially since the welcome letter specifically says so.
Thanks for the advice. We appreciate the quick response.
Now we have some more questions:
1). I am the petitioner (USC). I was married and divorced before meeting my husband. Should I include my divorce records where is says marriage termination? Or is that only for if my husband was previously married and divorced?
2). Which civil docs do they need from me in the Affidavit of Support section?3). Would my birth certificate which shows my mother's name who is also our joint sponsor be enough as proof of relationship?
4). I have my car insurance, driver's license and bank statements with my home address which is the same as my mother's. Is that also good for proof that we are in the same household?
5). I have compiled an entire separate file just for my proof of domicile, since I am now living in Uganda. It has all the things that show my address, my letter of employment and reinstatement from my boss showing that I will have a job when I return, and a letter of intent to re-establish domicile. So now do I need to make duplicates where proof of relationship with joint sponsor is required? Or will it be okay, and will they find it alright, if it is just in the Proof of Domicile file?
Thanks so much for your excellent advice and time that you all give to help people along this journey. May your process also go smoothly!

Thank you as always JBMG for the in-depth response. We are going to try and get a medical note from a doctor in the USA because apparently the type of cast they put me in is wrong, and they also instructed me to do exercises of the broken bones! That caused me to get worse muscle spasms.
