  1. Sadly not as he lives on a military base in a different state from his family.

If they need anything from me - that would be fine as I can just send it straight to the states but it would be very difficult for him as he's in the middle east right now. He can't print anything and a lot of post seem to go missing (he hasn't received everything that I've sent to him)

When you send letters to military overseas the letters first go to a military post office in the US who then ship it out to where they are deployed. Seem to take bloody ages.

If I understand correctly, the RFE is being sent to an address at a military base at the US, which I assume you listed as the mailing address on the I-129F? And there is no one who can receive mail for him there (even a friend, mailroom worker, anyone?)? How were you planning on receiving the NOA2 and NVC letter?

  2. Are you 100% sure? I was reading online as he is deployed in a war zone he could be allowed extra help? He has nothing where he is, no access to printer or anything so I would have to print it and send. It would take months.

Is there no one at his home who can receive the letter and scan it/fax it/take a picture of it to send to you?

I don't know about the military help line, but I'd wait to panic as the RFE may be for something very simple that you can take care of without your fiance. (For example, new/different passport pictures from you, signed letter of intent from you, more relationship evidence, a copy of a birth cert/divorce decree ...) I'd wait and see what the letter is asking for and go from there.

  3. That's great news Jaime. I was wondering the other day if your baby girl had arrived yet - I hope the yoga ball works and she comes without induction, as I understand labor can be a bit harder after induction. Either way, I'm sure everything will go smoothly. You must be so excited to meet her! Have you picked a name?

So glad Niman has adjusted well. I hope Aisha likes it over here.

My husband just passed his driver's test today after practicing with a permit for the last couple of months. He received his EAD about 10 days ago and has interviews for jobs this week. We're both more than ready for him to have more (any!) independence and a busier schedule. I'm a full-time student and work part-time, so it won't hurt to have some more money coming in either. :)

  4. Unfortunately, you don't have many options. You can expedite EAD based on a job offer, and if you have an emergency at home, you can request emergency AP. Other than that, you just have to wait for approval. In spite of what USCIS said about the 90 days, the overwhelming majority of people get their EADs much sooner than 90 days after receipt of the RFIE response.

My husband got an RFIE and the EAD was approved about a month after they received the RFIE response, on day 75. Someone else recently got the same response as you to a service request, and the EAD was approved shortly after.

  5. This is also my concern. Our I129k is only valid aug 26 to dec 25, 2016. My fiancee has his interview Nov.23 At this time waiting for my cenomar from the Pasay NSO which he processed it right away after the interview. So what will happen if he will not get his visa before Dec 25, do i need to file an extension? The releasing told him as soon as they receive my cenomar they will mail his visa. They kept his passport and he was not given a 221g form. What will i do?

No, you do not need to file for an extension. The I-129F just needs to be valid when the applicant is interviewed. After that, it's no longer important.

  6. I'm a USC and will get married abroad and we will apply for a CR-1 either from Colombia, Peru or Dominican Republic - I understand the total time to process the CR-1 (including obtaining resident status) could take up to a year. . .

Any idea how long it takes to to obtain a resident status in Dominican Republic (Cedula) and Peru (Carnet de Extranjeria) before I apply for DCF?

    thanks.

I believe the embassy in Lima accepts 6 months of residency in a country on a tourist visa, and the CE is not a requirement.

It's not very hard to get a CE - the process takes around 6 weeks if you have everything in order when you start. However, what's your plan? Is your spouse Peruvian? The two easy routes for a CE are through a Peruvian spouse (easiest) and with a valid work contract (fairly uncomplicated process, though you must first find a company which will hire you and is willing to "sponsor" you for the CE).

  7. Do you have a PharmD degree or the equivalent in the Philippines? It would be considered very unusual here for someone with an advanced degree (doctor of pharmacy) to enroll in a two-year associate's degree typically offered at a community college. Unless I am misunderstanding something, that looks like a red flag to me for your application.

  8. There was a poster on here fairly recently who was detained and removed, got married and filed a CR-1 with solo I-212. User name is blondedoc or blondedoctor. She is from Brazil. I believe it worked out for her and her visa was approved over the summer. You may find it useful to look up her story.

  9. We were headed to a store about 45 minutes away when suddenly a text message came in. We checked status and it said "card was delivered to me by the post office." So we too never saw a mailed status, but the EAD (combo card) was in the mail when we got home. Just in time so she can start working and get trained for black friday!

Congrats! I was getting really upset that it hadn't been mailed to us yet, so was a wonderful surprise when I opened the mailbox.

My husband has been applying to jobs and has gotten a couple of calls about his applications. I hope he gets some interviews and an offer soon. We're both ready for him to have more independence (road test for his license in a few weeks) and fill up his schedule.

  10. My husband's biometrics appointment was exactly one month after USCIS received his I-485 package. (Arrived at the USCIS PO Box on August 18, received date on NOA1 August 19, biometrics Sep 19). Pretty typical timing for people who filed for AOS in August; the vast majority of people had their bio appointments scheduled about a month from the date USCIS received the application.

We got the notice in the mail something like 9-10 days before the appointment date.

  11. When we got electronic notification that EAD was approved, the wife filled out some job applications. It looks like she made it past the interview - to the background check stage of one of them, but the status still says "November 2, card is being produced." Hopefully it gets mailed today or tomorrow! We are very much looking forward to it.

    Congrats to her! Well done.

My husband's EAD got approved on the same day and our status hasn't changed yet either to mailed. Hoping it will change tonight.

We were able to extend my husband's learner's permit (learning to drive!) based just off of the approval letter - they looked him up in the SAVE database and gave him a learner's permit with the EAD expiration date. An employer might be able to also do that while you're still waiting to get the card. Just an idea.

  12. A friend of mine works as a consular officer - in fact, she was in charge of fraud prevention at one of the consulates where she worked. She told me that they are specifically trained not to look at documents applicants being, as documents can so easily be faked or forged.
