I'm sorry you got treated this way, but thats the whole reason you have the extension letter to save them resources at field offices.  can you imagine if everyone went for a visa stamp?

Why do you need the stamp, the only reason I can see them stamping your passport was if you were out of the country while your extension letter expired.

they won't accept application unless I have evidence of US residency that is still valid 3 months after I leave the schengen area. its ridiculous granted that i have legitimate employment in the US. not like i'm going to stay past that date anyway.

  2. Just got turned away for schengen visa because date of departure is 2 months before my extension letter ends even though I told them that I have a pending application and that my status does not expire. USCIS office won’t give me a stamp until 1 month before it ends. This is utterly ridiculous. I don’t know if I’m furious or sad at how we’re treated during this process. Does anyone have any ideas on what I should do? Last resort I can think of is to walk into USCIS office and beg for one from the manager/supervisor. Has anyone had any experience doing this??

When you were waiting for your green card (I-485 pending), you are considered "pending adjustment of status," which is only recognized by the US as a legal status until I-485 is adjudicated.  Other countries do not recognize such pending status.  To other countries, you either are a permanent resident or you are not.

You will not have problem using I-551 stamp to apply for a Schengen visa.  I have applied for it twice with France and Germany.

I got turned away today (through phone) for my request for I-551 stamp because my extension letter does not expire until October.

Just to recap: I need to apply for Schengen visa to travel to Europe in August. The consulate stated that visa application requires proof of legal status within 3 months. August falls short just by a month of this cutoff. The USCIS personnel suggested that I obtain an official letter from the consulate that I will require the stamp. Has anyone encountered this situation before? Is it worth to speak to the consulate about this?

  4. thanks all for the clarification.

i'm going to call USCIS and schedule a visit to obtain a I-551 stamp. hopefully this will be sufficient "proof of legal status" to apply for Schengen visa, which requires at least >3 months of permanent residency status in the US (this is my biggest fear, as i had a visa application rejected before from Canada when i was still waiting for my green card). let's hope this would work!

Once you file for N-400, NBC in Lee Summit, MO will create your file for your local office (regardless of how you file for N-400 — online or paper).  As part of that process, the system will first search for your I-751 record, if you are filing under a 3-year rule as a spouse of a US citizen.

If the record shows that your I-751 is pending and has not yet been worked on by the Service Center yet, NBC will request that it be transferred to Lee Summit, MO.  From there, both of your files will await scheduling based on N-400 timeline of your local office.  Both files will be adjudicated at the same time — also known as a combo interview.

Your I-751 will now not be adjudicated until your N-400 interview.

If your local office is one of the backlogged ones in the country — Chicago, Los Angeles, Dallas, Houston, etc. You will have to prepare to get yourself a passport stamp.  Your 18-month extension letter will expire before you get the N-400 interview, the timeline speaks for itself.

are you saying that the 18-month extension letter will expire BEFORE n-400 status will get approved?

does that mean that we are "in limbo" i.e. has no legal status in the US between our green card expires and n-400 approval?

how is this legal? how is this going to affect my employment/overseas travel during this time?

    can someone please advice?

i am very worried as i am starting new job in September and planning on traveling overseas this summer (and will need to apply for tourist visa). my 18-month extension "expires" in October 2019. my n-400 projected completion time is January 2020. am hoping that my green card will get approved first this summer, before the n-400 goes through. but is this the case??

thanks for any help in advance.

  6. i too have submitted my N-400 application a few weeks ago.

will submit my tax return for this year in a month or so (you can upload additional documentation even after you have submitted your application online).

question: has anyone traveled to Mexico (not my home country) for vacation while their AOS status is pending?

i know that mexico doesn't require a visa if you are US permanent resident, but i'm afraid that they may give me some trouble since my card is expired. would they (the mexico border) acknowledge the extension letter we received?

  7. the status was updated to "Issued" yesterday. I was hoping to get a notification this morning but I called Aramex and they said that they dont have my passport yet and they have received all passports for today.

im trying to get a hold of somebody at the embassy right now to see if i can pick it up from the embassy directly (my flight is at 7 today) but noone is picking up at the 6476-9100 number.

is there another number i can call??

aramex told me to call 3158-5400 but there isnt an option to speak to an operator.

  8. alright, they updated the status and now it says "Administrative Processing"

can anyone tell me what this means? i notice that some people's interview result goes straight to approval and usually administrative processing means that they require additional documentation.

its so strange as the consulate officer did not mention anything at all during/after the interview. I would've been happy to provide any additional documentation but she said that "everything is in order".

how frustrating. i hope this doesnt drag out.

  9. hey guys,

its been 1 week since my interview and i havent received any notification from the embassy yet.

ive been checking on the CEAC website and it still says "Ready", last update was on Friday.

i assumed that i would have my passport back by today hence i had made travel plans for the weekend. i just emailed the embassy to follow up, hopefully they'll get back to me asap. are there any other websites other than the CEAC where i can check my status?

  10. Hey Junehar, hows your interview??

    Hey babakiki

It went really well! I should be able to pick up my passport sometime this week if there is no hiccup.

My appointment was for 845am and I arrived at around 840am. There were already 5 people ahead of me so in retrospect I should have came earlier.

I waited for about 1.5hours and then I was called and this man took all my documents. He would briefly ask this or that ie. what does he do, have either of you been previously married or not, etc. Basically questions that we had previously answered on the forms. The forms that he took were: Birth certs, Affidavit of support, our bank accounts, COC. He didn't even ask for our evidence of relationship etc but I might have just been lucky.

After that I was asked to wait again for about 20 mins for "my interview" with this asian american lady. I approached the stand and was told to swear that everything I say is true, and then she took my fingerprints. Then she asked me three questions, where we met, what he does, and where we are planning to marry. Then she asked whether I still have valid US visas and I said yes, I gave her my old passports and she proceeded to stamp the visas to cancel them. And then she said all my documents are in order, congratulations, and that I should be able to pick up my passport next week.

    Phew!

On Friday I got an email asking when I completed my studies and when did I left the US (I studied there previously), I replied the email and haven't heard anything since. Hopefully everything is ok and that I should be able to get my passport back this week!

  11. hey guys!

interview is tomorrow. starting to get the jitters. i have everything ready but wondering if i should bring more documentation?? (because...who knows!)

    1. Evidence of relationship - Will the embassy have the evidence that we have already submitted previously (for the petition) or should I print out copies and bring them with me to the interview as well?

    2. Should I bring my licenses or bank account statements (Singapore and US bank accounts) or any previous paystubs (I studied and worked in the US for a while and that's when I met my fiance)?

  12. sure, thank you veepaisal. ive told him to mail everything to me first thing in the morning tomorrow.

anyways for the evidence of relationship, for the interview i was planning on bringing:

    - 2-3 pages more of pictures

    - printout of tickets and hotel bookings of our last trip together in July

    - screenshots of our google chats

we usually use line to talk so i dont have a clear cut way to show that we communicate everyday. you think I should add anything else?

  13. okay i just spoke to a (rather rude) lady at the consulate. i think she might be the receptionist so she might not be the best source of information.

but she said that "all documents you submit to the consulate must be original copies"

does this mean i need to furnish the original NOA1, NOA2 as well?

this is making me nervous as the interview is so close and the weekend is approaching.

  14. hey guys, one quick question.

do i have to bring the original I-134 (Affidavit of Support) signed by my fiance to the interview?

i have a scanned copy with me but im not sure if i should ask him to express mail it to me as the interview is on wednesday.

  15. Hi Junehar,

I haven't receive my passport yet, I was told by the Officer that it will take a week or so. Currently the status says Administrative Processing though, hope all is good!

If your interview pass with no missing documents needed, you will probably be fine.

May I know which airline will you be taking?

    hey Roy&Chanel,

ill be taking Emirates on the 30th Nov frin SIngapore to NYC but we are vacationing in Bali from the 18th.

so happy to hear that you got your passport/visa back!!! hopefully my interview in two weeks go ok. im preparing my documents right now. when you were there, did they ask to see anything else other than the documents listed in packet 3 instructions?

  16. hey Roy&Chanel,

have you guys had gotten your visa/passport back after the interview yet?

my interview is scheduled for October 28 and my flight is on Nov 18. wondering if that should be sufficient time or whether im cutting it short...

  17. I received my packet 3 two weeks ago and it still instructed me to make payment at Standchart.

Maybe they just changed it this month...

anyways I'm currently waiting for my packet 4...its been 2 weeks since i've sent out the documents for Packet 3 and still no Packet 4 in sight - should I be worried?

I tried calling NVC to set an interview time but they said that they are unable to assist. I have emailed the embassy singaporeCON but no reply as expected.

Any other ideas?? I'm getting anxious as my flight back to the US is scheduled for Nov 29!
