So let me get this straight. Its perfectly reasonable to believe anonymous sources who make the wild claim that Trump flushed documents down the toilet when he could have simply burned them in one of the many White House fireplaces or simply shredded them. However it's just a conspiracy theory that Hillary spied on Trump when a career federal prosecutor spends hundreds of thousands of dollars and well over a year uncovering evidence of such activity. I'm sure he has to justify all that time and money spent. Especially when his bosses are democrats.

So I am taking the order to start a separate thread about this, since no one seems to be talking here about the destruction/holding back of presidential records -- especially ones marked confidential -- which is kind of big if true. Just kicking off discussion with this article. Let's put aside criticisms of Trump the man and talk about why this should or should not be investigated with as much attention as Hillary's emails. Because big, if true.

On a personal note, I have mostly been away because of a lot going on in my family life recently. My MIL caught COVID and was admitted to hospital with hypoxemia in December -- she spent more than a week on the respiratory unit and just made it home before Christmas. She is doing a lot better now but stairs still exhaust her. She had no preexisting conditions, was in excellent health, very active, fully vaxxed, and only 56 when she caught it. Sometimes you're just unlucky is what the doctors said. Her sister -- five years younger and quite a bit pudgier -- caught it around the same time and was completely asymptomatic. Then my Uncle Dan died from a heart attack right before New Year's, and suddenly most of my family and I were trying to pick up the pieces in Mississippi, where he'd moved to be near his wife's family. And even more recently, a member of my husband's family attempted suicide and very luckily was discovered before she died. It's been a lot, and I am eternally grateful that the experiences of the past three months have brought my husband and I closer than ever during a very, very stressful time. Understandably bickering on VJ kind of took a back seat. Just a message to say there is so, so much more out there in the world than snipping at each other's tails and slamming each other. ❤️

Hopefully they end this quarantine nonsense for unvaccinated people before December when we plan on visiting my wife's family. We are only planning on going for a month and 14 days in quarantine makes it where it's not even worth going. I don't see what the difference is between vaccinated and unvaccinated is considering the vaccine doesn't even work for the latest variants. The quarantines don't even make sense regardless of vaccination status for various reasons.

I heard that GoFundMe is refunding donors minus the credit card processing fees GoFundMe had to pay. That is not a full refund. I hope everyone files a dispute with their banks.

My advice (take it or leave it) is both of you should make sure you really want to get married then just do it in the Philippines and file for a CR1 visa. In my view (again feel free to disagree) marriage is a lifetime commitment. My wife and I got married in the Philippines and as I'm sure you know things are a lot cheaper there than they are here in the US? We spent a little over $1000 on our wedding and had over 100 people attend a wedding that would have likely cost over $10k here in the US. The other advantage was that my wife got to have a wedding with her family there which is a big deal. I would say getting married in the Philippines and filing for a CR1 visa is likely the easiest and quickest route for you for many reasons. I'm pretty sure no matter what route you go the marriage will eventually have to be reported to the Philippines government anyways if you and your wife ever want to visit her family after she comes to the US. Someone correct me if I am missing something here.

I would probably take Carter over what we have now. It makes the Obama years seem like the good times.

I know you're not saying you are going to divorce your partner in the future. But, all this planning and concern sounds like you're looking to commit immigration fraud and you're only marrying the girlfriend and petitioning her so she can bring over her "real" boyfriend later.

Get married, file ROM, petition her.. .and she can become a US citizen in a few years.
If you guys do divorce some years down the line do it in the US. Then she can petition her spouse on a K1 and they'll be able to get married over in the US.
Maybe their marriage won't be recognized in the Philippines immediately but if this fictional future couple that isn't you and your wife really and truly love each other they'll figure it out and fight through all the red tape.

Personally I am not nearly as concerned about Russia as I am about China. That is where we should be putting most of our attention. Russia has issues but they would make a better ally and trading partner than an enemy. At the same time we treat Russia like our arch enemy China walks all over us.

Crime rates are exploding in blue cities. Some even hitting record highs. Not so much on TX or SC. You would think an attorney of all people would understand that not prosecuting crimes is gonna result in more crime.

It's a matter of executive privilege being trampled on by the legislative branch. Nothing to do with "SCOTUS having the right to make a ruling" whatever that is supposed to mean. Good thing you waived the fees otherwise I would have to ask for a full refund. By the way I'm curious. What great revelation is it that you think were gonna see as a result of this?

It is about enforcement and prosecution, not the threshold.  Misdemeanor theft in San Francisco, for instance, carries a penalty, but is not enforced or prosecuted.  The shoplifters go nuts because they know the police will not even come out for under $950.  The police don't come out because the AG will not prosecute these misdemeanor thefts.

If Texas prosecutes and jails the misdemeanor thefts under $2500, that is a big difference in policy.

Covid is effectively over as a pandemic with the weak omicron variant being the dominant variant. I'm done playing covid. No masks, no social distancing and certainly no vaccines. Fortunately here in Wisconsin with the exception of Milwaukee and Madison no one requires masks to enter their businesses. If they did I would choose not to patronize their business. I refuse to wear one in public locations regardless of what the local decree is. No it is not being a jerk to refuse to wear a mask. It is being a jerk to impose your paranoia on me. If you want to wear one I have no problem with it and do not look down on you for it. But my choice should also be respected. While the rest of the state has come to its senses Milwaukee is frantically handing out n95 masks (without proper fitting) to the public. No matter how weak covid becomes some will continue to desperately cling to the hysteria. It has become a game to many people. A game I will not participate in.

Where my wife works unvaccinated employees are forced to stay home if they have so much as a sniffle even with multiple negative covid tests while symptomatic covid positive vaccinated employees are allowed to work.
