You can always move the date to later date embassies do that. Cost nothing. You were asking about do you have to stay in country after POE. No. You are a Legal permanent resident the minute you go through POE. Passport will be stamped with temp green card. You could turn around and leave and go back to Canada to finish up things travel whatever.
December scheduling is being done now. I would call NVC see if you got a date. January scheduling will start end of this month usually starts last few days of the month for the upcoming month.
Most have 4 to 6 weeks to prepare, like someone I know was scheduled last week for their country interview is on December 21st. Plenty of time. .

Just wanted to share my experience in case anyone else uses this thread as a reference which I did (thank you very much OP!)
After e-mailing the AIS people, they did confirm to me that the only way to reschedule my appointment would be to miss my original appointment and then reschedule on the AIS website, which I ended up doing. The day after I missed my appointment, I was able to reschedule - however; as many experienced here, there were no dates available. Only today did the calendar open up with 3 dates in November (no dates in October), which I've now booked. I had no troubles with booking my appointment with the old interview letter with Medisys at Montreal which is where I'll be doing my medical 3 business days before my interview.
So to summarize, here's my timeline:
IR1 Visa
Original interview: Sept 4, 2018
Dates starting showing up on calendar: Sept 14, 2018
Rebooked interview date: Nov 28, 2018

Well, according to VJer's timelines, it seems NSC is currently processing Oct 23, 2016.
Our case took a little over 6 months while others whom are lucky and got their case approved earlier.
Once it's approved and sent to NVC, the process is alot quicker.
While you wait, perhaps start gathering all the required documents for the NVC stage.
Yes, it's hard to be away from your other half, but it'll be all worth it in the end Stay positive, Good luck!

Update:
Well, just received an email reply this morning. Not much help since I've already gone through the detailed instructions in Packet 4.
Will have to try and call the Official U.S. Department of State Visa Appointment Service again and hopefully someone else on the other line would be able to help instead of telling me to miss my appointment and reschedule after.
Hello,
Thank you for your inquiry.
The date and time of your appointment have been carefully selected for you.
We strongly recommend that you attend your interview, since there is a waiting time of a few months to re-schedule. While we are sympathetic to your situation, given the staffing situation and volume of visa cases we have, and the fact that the interview schedule is already set, we cannot reschedule in order to meet a specific date.
However, if you are unable to attend the appointment that has been given to you, you may re-schedule your interview at the U.S. Consulate General in Montreal.
Detailed instructions about how to re-schedule an appointment and get the required medical exam are available here https://travel.state.gov/content/dam/visas/Supplemental/MTL - Montreal.pdf
The document includes the list of panel physicians accredited to perform medical exam in Canada. Since the medical examination has a limited validity, it needs to be performed closer to the interview date.
Any questions about scheduling/re-scheduling the appointment or any issues with the website of our appointment services contractor should be reported directly to the Official U.S. Department of State Visa Appointment Service using the contact details here https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-CA/iv/information/contact_us
Section 203(e) of the Immigration and Nationality Act requires that an application be canceled and any petition for be canceled if the applicant does not apply for an immigrant visa within one year of being advised to do so.
We hope that this information is helpful in replying to your inquiry.
Please let us know if we can be of further assistance.
Regards,
OP03

Hi @Toronto88,
Unfortunately, for Ir-1/CR-1, the date they assign is the date that we have to accept. If we are unable to make it for whatever the reason, the only way to reschedule is to not attend and reschedule one day after the initial date assigned.
My original date was June 27, did not attend, signed onto the ais site and option to reschedule was finally available.

kellyh got a reaction from Annie93 in Case complete
We didn't receive any email notification about our case complete.
I called to inquire and was told case complete. Few days later after the call, we received an email with Interview Date.
So, I would assume they are waiting for an available date at your Embassy to schedule your Interview before you get the email.

kellyh got a reaction from Toronto88 in Does Montreal consulate still have the option of both mail and electronic processing for IR-1/CR-1 visa?
Both are accepted.
By sending your package via email, it saves quite a bit of time and also saves courier fees, also save you from asking yourself whether the package was received, or lost etc....
We sent out package last week via email and was approved in just under 1 week, also got an interview date!
Regardless of which method you decide to send your package, wish you all the best and good luck!

Agreed! I also sent 2 emails. Email 1 of 2 and Email 2 of 2. First email was AOS package, and second was for the IV package. Once sent, you can call NVC to inquire after 2-3 days to confirm whether it was received.

If you decide not to have the x-ray while pregnant (and of course you can make that choice, despite the very small amount of radiation and added precautions they have to take at your medical if you're pregnant) it may be that you can still go to your interview. Of course you won't get an immediate approval, but you should get a 221(g) for the medical - it's like a request for evidence. They go through all the rest of your stuff, and then they will provide you with a paper saying that you can't be approved because of the absence of a medical. As soon as you have delivered, get the medical done and you can send the report, and get your visa.
It is apparently extremely difficult to reschedule interviews in Montreal. This page has some phone numbers you could try.
https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-CA/iv/information/contact_us
Also, if your file has not left NVC, you might have better luck changing it through them.

Your file is probably already been sent to Montreal. Check your CEAC status. If it says READY it's there. You can contact Montreal about rescheduling your interview. However, be aware that your child will need a CRBA to move with you when you immigrate. If you take longer than 1 year from your police certificate you'll need a new one. If the IV fee goes up you'll need to pay the difference if it's been over 1 year.
You should have held off at the NVC stage if this was going to be an issue to be honest, so hopefully Montreal will be able to accommodate you.

kellyh reacted to Suss&Camm in Tax Status - Filed as Head of Household
This is what TurboTax informs:
If you were still legally married as of December 31, you are considered unmarried (and therefore eligible for Head of Household) if all 5 of these conditions apply:
You won't be filing jointly with your spouse; and Your spouse didn't live in your home after June (temporary absences due to illness, school, vacation, business, or military service don't count); and Your home was your child's, stepchild's, or foster child's main home for more than half the year; and You paid more than half the costs of keeping up your home during the tax year; and You meet the qualifications to claim the child as your dependent, even if the other (noncustodial) parent is actually claiming the child as a dependent on their return. You can also be "considered unmarried" for Head of Household if your spouse was a nonresident alien at any time during the tax year and you're not treating them as a resident alien.
Married filers who are "considered unmarried" cannot file with Head of Household status if their dependent is somebody other than a child, for example a parent.

I didn't submit translation documents, but I would assume it'd be the same as other documents. Unless requested for original, photocopies would be sufficient and that original is brought to the interview.
