Just sad and frustrating. Was just watching the news and it showed the riots. Sigh.
-
I dunno. I thought about it but a few things keep me away from it.
1. You gotta check on the 911 coverage. That makes me nervous.
2. Remember when way back when everyone lost power (from Ohio to Michigan to NY?). Guess what, the only phones that worked were landlines. Cell towers were down.
3. Just never having to worry about where the phone is, can I hear it ring. At least with landline, you hear it in the bedroom upstairs, in the garage, in the basement etc.

We went through Delhi and my husband brought the proof of relationship (our wedding pictures, letters, phone records) with him to the interview. But then again, in Delhi you don't have to submit your paperwork beforehand.

What is amazing to me is how prices vary 20-30 cents per day. My dad managed a station in the late 70's and he said that people would come into the gas station to complain about a gas going from 51.7 cents a gallon to 51.9 cents.
-
Wow, a number of folks are still under $3.00! Seems like they retired the "2" from our prices for good.
-
What's the price where you are at? And how much more are you finding yourself spending per week??
It's $3.39 for us. I have seen stories of cities like Chicago where it is more like $3.71. And I know California's is even steeper. Just curious what people are seeing. And who is paying the LEAST?

Actually, IMs are also traceable if you are using it via your company's internet.

Shanghai, China for the last two weeks for work. Get to go home tomorrow. Whoo hoo!! I want some Americanized, totally not authentic Chinese food!

That is great news! Congrats and happy reunion (19 months!!)..

We were asked to sign a sheet of paper saying we were aware of having to file for removal of conditions. Otherwise, no stamp etc.

LA and San Diego. Wonder which agencies make up the total 14 they are referring to.

Hi All,
I have been using Reliance service to call India. It cost's about 13cents a min. I was wondering what calling plans other use to call India and the prices you pay. Is there anything cheaper out there? Calling my wife on a regualr basis is costing me a fortune, and was looking for something that may be a little cheaper
Thanks
You can try to use Yahoo Instant Messenger, it is 10c a minute to India land line (she doesn't need internet access to receive your calls). And on Diwali, the calls were free! Hope they do a promotion like that again soon.
Otherwise, about 13c a minute is the best rate I have found (using WQN). I stopped using calling cards because they would cut out and I would lose a lot of money with connection charges. I spent a lot of money as well calling my husband in India but WQN has a lot of promo offers (like charge $50 and get 45 free minutes to India).
A lot of companies are starting to go packages of calls to India for like $30 a month. I haven't seen too much about that lately though.

Congrats! Few people could deal with that amount of "not knowing" and "running around"! Happy reunion...

Way to go! Congrats and happy homecoming.

We have the greencard and are planning a trip outside of the US. When we leave the US, is there anything we have to do with the orginial white I94 card that my husband had stapled into his passport when he came on the K3?
When you are a LPR, you don't have to do anything with the Vist kiosks that they have at the airport do you? Those are only for visitors i thought.
Thanks,
-
And just as a side note - a notary public is not notarizing the document - in this case they would not be stating it is an authentic green card. A notary is just verifying the indivdiual who signed the piece of paper in front of them is in fact that individual.
Right, that is what I was told by the notary. But then why do these governments ask for "notarized copies" of documents? How can you get anything certified (unless it is a birth certificate or something). Just an interesting situation.
Thanks for the suggestions. I suppose we'll have to go with sending everything in and hope for the best. We have to enter through Germany so the German consulate is our only option.
-
We need a visa to visit the EU and one of the things the German Embassy asks for in the visa packet is the "orginial valid alien registration card" (i.e. the greencard) or a copy of a valid US visa (and K is not listed as one...).
So of course, I am verrrrrry uncomfortable and less then thrilled than having to send the green card in the mail, even it is to a government facility. I was told I could make a copy of the green card and get it notarized but NO notary public will notarize it b/c they can't notarize that something is a true copy. Which is hilarious because I have had a US goverment AND the German consulate and the Indian consulsate say to me in the past to get a copy of something notarized (which of course has never worked). So why do they say that when it ISN"T POSSIBLE?!?!
So should I just send the greencard off and hope it doesn't get lost or stolen? Should send the K3 visa instead and ignore the greencard request? Does anyone know of how I can get a notarized copy (short of making an Infopass appointment?)....?
What if by chance it is lost, what hoops do you have to jump through??
Anyone have experience with this??

Yes, that is true. You'll want to go to the website http://newdelhi.usembassy.gov/index.html for more info. But I believe the new time requirement for DCF is closer to 6 months.

I hope she is home soon. It is hard being an ocean away when something like this is happening.
Hang in there!

It's Hindi.
Quite a good song actually. Good music. The main singer (male) is singing about how he has has become a lover for his girl and how his arms are empty without her. How his eyes thirst for her. I think you get the point.
If you look it up online, check out the remix versions!

Congrats! It's a real relief!

Sorry to hear of your loss. Hang in there and let yourself be comforted by who and what you do have near you.

pbgirl,
Just saw the answer in another thread - drive a cab. Or be a migrant farm worker. Hotel maid?
Better yet - hold off on the job and take some English language courses.

Hi guys,So I was wondering, those of you have SO that do not speak 100% perfect English, what did you do about getting a job and job experience in the US? As usual, its a catch 22 situation where everyone wants experience but no one will give you the chance to get it.
... What other venues did you try for jobs if they were not as proficient in English?
Thanks Yodrak, I am not sure if you are trying to be sarcastic or not.
I was just trying to see what other people looked into while polishing their english skills. ESL classes can only take you so far if you aren't able to practice them outside the classroom.
Daniel, what kind of temp agency did you try? Are they local or one of the national ones?
Sarah, that is great luck to work where he already is familiar with the language.
Thanks for the input everyone,

Even the Target's and local grocery stores are saying "oh, we'll call if you need you". I would think with the holiday season coming up, there would be a lot of seasonal jobs available.
I know it is especially hard when you have trouble understanding the language. Heck, I had to spend two weeks in Germany and at most of the stores and restaurants, I became so frustrated because no one could understand me and I couldn't understand German.
How do you get your SO that experience? What other venues did you try for jobs if they were not as proficient in English?
