  1. we've had a lot of funny incidents surrounding language, but the best was last summer. we went to a concert with some friends in a city about an hour from our home, and when it was over we decided to swing through the mcdonalds drive through for a snack. i was sitting there gabbing with my girlfriend in the back seat while we were waiting in the line and Adnan was reading the menu. he turned to us with a really puzzled look and said, "WHAT is an apple diaper??" we all asked him what on earth he was talking about and he pointed to the menu item apple DIPPERS (the apples with caramel dip) but he read DIPPER as DIAPER. I swear we laughed our asses off the whole way home. We still laugh about apple diapers whenever we hit a drive through.

The other really cute thing, not a specific incident but kind of a series of incidents, involves pets. Most of you ladies know that pets as we in the US know them are really not common at all in NA/ME. Adnan never had an animal in his life, his mom is really against the dirt etc of having an indoor pet. I am quite an animal lover and always have a variety of pets so I was curious at the beginning as to how it would go. Well, its been good. a bit more than a year into it, Adnan and my female cat have such a love affair going that it rivals romeo and juliet. they are inseparable. this cat that never had any interest in human food will eat ANYTHING if it comes from him. sometimes he tests her just to see what she will eat. last week she had some salad from his plate and I caught her sneaking refried beans from him. she also likes to fall asleep with her head shoved all the way inside his stinky sweaty work shoes. I am SURE his mother would scream if she could see, but usually its just so dang cute. He just left a few days ago to spend a few weeks in france with his family and this cat is flat out MOPING every day; I've found her sleeping on his clothes. and since he's been gone and I talk to him online he makes me go find her and hold her up to the webcam so he can talk to her.

Love your story about your cat. I know how middle easterners are... pets are not common in their households... Good one :lol::lol:

  2. I agree. The waiting could drive a saint crazy, which I'm not

When you can't do much and all you have to do wait, is just.... beyond words :crying:

The distance is very difficult too, but at least you can go visit (if financially possible) or talking on the phone and hearing each others voice could help some.

That's what I say and I'm sticking with it

To me, it's hands down, no contest....................patience.

Because the distance can always be overcome. You can at least do somethings in that regards, by simplying buying a plane ticket and visiting. I know it's not something you can do so often, but still....the point is you can at least do something about it.

But , the waiting etc.......is much more frustrating, because there is nothing you can do to speed up the process. You are basically at their mercy, and the outcome is left up to them.

That makes it all the more nerve wracking and frustrating....because it is out of your control, whereas the distance, is not necessarily so.

  3. Hi,

I know exactly how you feel. Good luck to you. I hope you here something very soon. I've also been thinking to stay away for a while. Though I'm very happy for all the others, sometimes I get very depress... :(

This is a very tough journey...:yes::(

Again good luck. If nothing else works, pray pray and pray again... :innocent:

  4. Hi,

I know what you're going through. I live in US and my fiancé is in Germany. He is also an Iranian. We've applied for a K1 visa and been waiting for his background check since our approved I129F was sent to NVC last year in May. I guess they do a lot of checking on Iranians even before they go for their interview and fingerprints. It's very frustrating since you can't do much and just have to wait. Like someone else said just pray. I know how you feel. I’m with you. :(
