  1. Hi ! I am from Vancouver BC but had a roomate many years ago from Quebec.

I hadn't heard from her in over 20 yrs and was very happy to have found her on facebook.

She called me lastnight and we talked on the phone for 3 hrs!

Anyway, we used to speak Quebec french all the time but now I can't remember much at all.

I would like to write her a note in french and let her know how happy I am to have re-connected with her.

Could someone help me translate English to Quebec French?

I would be forever grateful !

    Merci!

    :luv:

  2. I got a desk top computer from work thats been completely cleaned out. I was told by our IT department that it just needs the operating System put in. It's a Pentium 4.

I want to get windows xp for it, but I'm kinda gun shy when it comes to buying things like that on Ebay and places like that.

Any ideas where I could get one?

Also , does it come with Microsoft office or anything? particularly Word

It has to be cheap though.

  3. Well I'm in a pickle! I won a cruise.

The catch is, We have to use it by the end of December 2008! Its for ANY priceline.com cruise I want . So we were thinking of one that leaves from Cape Canaveral, and goes to the Bahamas for 4 days.

Will we need passports? My hubby was in the military for 20 years and never needed a passport so he doesn't even have one.

I have my 10 yr green card holder.

It sucks that I may not be able to use this free cruise!

My Canadian Passport expired a year ago. I was told that it could take months to get a new one!

I just started a new job ( Start tomorrow in fact) and don't know how I will get time off

  4. And for BH45 who is without her daughter...I cannot even begin to imagine what that must be like.

I do know exactly what your feeling BH45.

I had to leave my little girl, then 9 yrs. old behind cuz my ex decided that not letting her move would be the best way to hurt me.

I'm lucky though as she does get to move here next year. Custody agreement states that she can choose to move now that she is 12.

We talk on the phone & online and she visits 4 times a year (American T Giving is her next visit) but it's not the same. I can't tuck her in at night or take her trick or treating, or see her first recital.

It tears my heart out everyday and truth be told if I could turn back the clock I would never have moved and left her. There isn't a single day that goes by that I don't tear up thinking about her.

It's hard for my hubby as well because he knows how hard it is for me. He loves my daughter to death and is an incredible father to her.

I just wish things were different. That I really felt like I belonged here, but I don't.

  5. I am so sick of the "EH" comments! I have never said EH in my life!

I also get the "Oh you must speak French too.

And everybody here thinks that its always snowing in all of Canada or something, because as soon as we get snow they say, Oh you must be used to all this snow!

Umm No! I'm from Vancouver, BC , we rarely got snow.

One of my prior coworkers said that we put weird things on the plate for breakfast. He said when you order breakfast there is always slices of Tomatoes and slices of Oranges and that's just weird.

I don't recall having slices of tomatoes on my plate when I ate out.

  6. I still miss home and I've been here 3 yrs! Course my 12 yr old daughter is back home and until we can get her here, this place will never feel like home.

I think it really depends on the area you live as well. I'm in Utah and people here aren't too friendly to new comers. Have only 1 friend here besides my hubby. Have tried everything to make friends but most of these people are Mormons, have lived here all their lives , have grown up together with their close friends and can't be bothered making friends with someone new. So, I spend a lot of time by myself. I'm even getting used to it. I am a very outgoing person, and usually can make friends really easy, but not here.

I'm hoping to go home for christmas but it depends if I can find another job, (been looking since May) and finances are hurtin.

    Oh well, such is life!

  7. The $100.00 is for them to ensure that your daughter is safely on the plane...that her needs are taken care of during the flight...that if anything happened on the flight, that she has someone that will see to her needs. Your daughter will then be taken from the plane, and brought out to whomever is picking her up, safely, not just leaving her in the airport. I don't know how much it cost before, but I can't imagine that $100.00 each way is too large of a price to pay to ensure that my daughter (as a minor flying by herself), gets back and forth safely.

In a perfect world, we wouldn't have to worry...airline staff or other passengers would ensure that she wasn't left alone, or had her needs met, but I think the service offered needs to be compensated by the airline. I've been on several flights where the unaccompanied minor's needs took up 3/4 of the flight attendants time.

Sorry but they don't give a ####### about my daughter ! In fact 2 American Thanksgivings ago, when we went to send her back up to Canada, there was a snow storm in Vancouver and the West coast. Her plane kept being delayed. Then the chick at the Delta Kiosk said that they could book her on the last flight out instead. I had to remind them that she was a 10 yr old (at that time) travelling alone! She said Oh that doesn't matter. Umm read the rules! it does matter! Then she wanted to fly her to Seattle. I said and how would she get from Seattle to Vancouver. The chick said "Oh she can just take a greyhound or something! " Excuse me?? The weather became so bad that she stayed an extra day and then flew out once the weather cleared.

Also, on her flight back this past summer we had to wait 3 hrs because one of the Stewardesses slept in and she wasn't ready to fly. (Probably to drunk to fly is more like it)

I have had nothing but problems with Delta Airlines, and this is just one more reason I wish I never had to book with them again.

Oh and BTW, I ALWAYS arrive 3 hrs ahead of her flight to ensure she is able to board the plane I go with her all the way to the doors out to the plane so the only time Delta is looking after my daughter is on the steps up to the plane. Her dad does the same thing. I also stay half hour after her flight has left the airport in case there is a problem and they have to come back.

It's a 2 hr flight. in a small plane, not like she is travelling to England or something. She brings her Nintendo DS and plays that. She has been travelling like this for over 3 yrs.- 4 times a year. I think she knows what goes on with an airplane. She says, all they do is walk her up the steps to the plane. She finds her seat herself. throws her purse under her seat and locks her seatbelt herself. She doesn't take up anybodys time. She is well behaved,& well mannered. She doesn't talk to strangers and keeps to herself. (She's a black belt in Tae Kwon Do btw.)

I think the airline should of at least let us know they increased the fee when we booked her flight. The only reason I knew was because my daughter told me her dad was shocked that they increased the fee when she came here. I then went to Delta's Web site and found it on there.

Please take a deep breath. Did I say that YOUR child took up too much time for the flight attendants? You seriously need to get a grip. You sound like I was questioning your parenting or something.

Thanks for the head's up on the fee increases. Because I didn't think it was a rip-off...this is how you respond? Do you think flight attendants are just glorified waitress's in the sky or something? If there is trouble on a flight, then they are there to ensure your safety. A child might need extra assistance.

If this is too much to pay, or you don't like the arrangements, as you sit here at one end, and your ex-husband at the other...then please...feel free to fly with her. If this is about money being in such short supply for you, then I'm sorry to hear this.

    I resent that you've gone off half-cocked because I didn't say boo-hoo. Grow up.

Ya whatever! I simply thought people should be made aware of this, that's why I posted it. Didn't mean for some people to get their panties in a knot.

  9. Just a heads up for anyone who has a child travelling by air in reguards to "Unaccompained Minor Fee"

Delta Airlines is now charging $100.00 each way!

That's 200 bucks for then to walk your child down the walkway onto the plane!!

Anyone else think this is highway robbery??! You still have to stay at the terminal until the plane has actually left. And the child still can't be put on the last flight, also no connecting flights.

I bet their excuse will be the price of fuel. I personaaly think they just like to rip people off.

Unfortunatly, Delta is the only airline that will fly from Vancouver to Salt Lake City. So I'm stuck dealing with this!

My daughter's been visiting this summer and leaves Saturday. So now I have to pay 100 bucks before she can set foot on the plane. UGH!

  10. Wages here suck !! The minimum wage is something like $ 5.85 hr.

My friends would die if I told them I was looking for work here and the most they are willing to pay is 9.00 pr hr for something I was doing for 15.87 hr.

  11. Still can't get anything to work. I tried to download different ones like Regcure and it says that I don't have permission to access it or something about being 32 bit or corrupt file or no path found?

    I give up!

    I HATE THIS COMPUTER!!!!!

  12. I had 3 interviews yesterday.

Two of them I actually applied for, but the other one, they contacted me. They said they saw my resume on monstor and thought my experience and skills fit perfectly with a position they had available.

Back in Canada I worked for Revenue Canada for over 10 yrs as a CR Clerk/Para Legal ( Office work, getting Corporate files ready for the IRS to take them to court.

Down here I've done Secretarial work for the past 2 yrs.

So, I was supprised to be offered a Sales job selling Airplane parts over the phone! Ummmm where does this even come close to my past work experience & skills?!

I can't believe they even offered me this job. I have nothing to do with telephone soliciting!

It sounds very dodgy to me, especially when they contact you and it is a phone sales position. If I were you I would try to do as much research on the company as possible.

I wouldn't take that sales job if it was offered to me at all.

I have been called back for a 2nd interview for a job that I am interested in for Tomorrow, so will see about that.

    Also have another interview Thursday.

Its funny how ya apply for jobs and not hear anything and then all of a sudden everybody is calling and vieing for your time for an interview. What a weird place this is.

  13. I scanned my PC with PC on point rtrial version and had quite a few errors/problems.

Was wondering if there is anything online that I can download free to fix these errors.

Everytime I try to download Regcure from a free site it says the file is corrupt.

    Any ideas?

I clicked on the download and nothing happened. :(

  15. now I really miss having a cat.. thanks a lot :P:lol:

he seems very cute... and I love the name..

Awww Marilyn . Ya can have one of mine. We have 9 in the house and 3 feral cats live in our garage ( we just had the feral cats fixed and had their shots.

My babies Alfie & Sugar will be getting fixed next month when they're old enough.

Never had a problem with any of our male cats marking territory. All our cats are fixed tho (cept the 2 babies)

Some tend to be more domineering then others tho. Maggie, our striped tiger cat is really possesive of my hubby. If he gives too much attention to any of the other cats she takes it out on them. ( I don't much care for that particular cat but she is my hubbys fav.

My fav is my big boy Buddha Tuxedo cat.

  16. Until I moved to the states on my K-1 my daughter lived with me. He hardly ever paid child support but that's irrelevant. (I pay him child support) We have joint custody and while she lived with me, she spent every other weekend with him. She had to move in with him when I moved here since he refused to sign the paperwork letting her move before she turned 12.

I've always made sure she maintained a good relationship with my ex, and will continue to do so once she has moved here. ( that's why I asked if she needed AP)

Our Custody papers state she is allowed to move here once she turned 12. She could choose where she wants to live with No interference from my ex. I have those documents in hand, signed by the supreme court judge.

She has chosen to move here. So my husband is filing the I130 for her.

My daughter has an awesome relationship with my husband. She calls him Daddy. No circus here. My husband dotes on my daughter. He married into a family not just me. ( even had special vows for her in our ceremony) So no worries that my husband doesn't want her. Anyone who has seen my daughter & my husband together would think that they are biological parent & child.

It's been obvious since day 1 that she wanted to move here and was just waiting until she turned 12. My ex even told me the only reason he wouldn't let her move before was to hurt me. He didn't want her. But that's OK cuz Karma will get him in the end.

    On another note.

I had my K-1 interview in Vancouver as that's where were from.

I have heard that my daughter will have to have her interview in Montreal. Is this true?

I thik that's crazy considering she lives half an hour from downtown Vancouver. That would mean I would have to fly to vancouver, pick her up, fly to montreal, do the interview, fly to vancouver get her things and then fly to the USA. Nothing like making things hard in an already difficult situation!

  18. It is better to have loved & lost then to live with a jerk the rest of your life!

I had a control freak for 16 yrs in my previous marriage and He lowered my self esteem so much that he had me believing everything was MY fault. Only when a true friend pointed out all the problems did I realize I was worth more than living a false Lie of a marriage did I get out.

It was hard, I'll admit it, ( my ex was /is a millionaire and I gave up everything ( all money, homes, just took a few items that were mine from before I met him, and my childs things) I went from living in a 5000 sq ft home with inground pool on estate property to a 700 sq ft apartment in a seedy area of town ( my daughter's playroom at our house was bigger than the whole apartment)

Someone will come along (when the time is right) who will cherish you for who you are. Not try to control you, lie to you and belittle you.

You are worth it!! Remember that!!!

If you need to talk PM me and I'll give you my number.

    Stay Strong!

    Lily

  19. I came here on a K-1 3 yrs ago.

My daughter was listed on the K-1 application but when it came time for the interview her sperm donor dad (my ex) refused to let her move at that time. At my interview I had a letter asking them to take her off the K-1 and explained that she wouldn't be moving. The lady didn't want to take her off, stating that the father usually changes his mind. and she can follow within a year. Well he didn't ( I knew he wouldn't cuz that's just how he is).

So now we (my hubby is) for the I-130 for her to move. (She is now allowed to move here, noted by a juddge)

Here are the questions I need answers for:

Do we need to provide copies of her passport with the application?

Can her packet (for medical & interview) be sent to my brother who has access to her instead of her home? I'm afraid Sperm donor/Ex will sabatoge the packet like he did with our divorce.

After she gets here, will she need to have AP so that she can go back to Canada for a visit. (Sperm donor/Ex will have visitation rights).

Will she have to adjust status?

Will she need to get EAD now or even later? ( She is only 12 , will be 13 when she moves here)

anyways, any help would be appreciated.

Would love to hear from others who have gone thru this. IE: entered on a K-1 married, had children under 21 follow years later. Or am I the only one doing this?
