You can also visit for less than 10 days and return home.

It takes about 5 minutes to do.  It is very easy and you do not need to stay home (or elsewhere) for any period of time.  I have to do it once directly at the border (they had a tent), then my husband did it once with the virtual nurse/box at home.  I think you are overthinking this one - most people do not have to test, it is random.

Congratulations! When you said you were shell shocked I was bracing myself for a DS-5535. So glad everything went well for you in the end, as stressful as the days leading up to it were…

You asked this question on March 19. See thread below and the responses to your questions.

Time for test results to come back vary depending on the load on public health. It is usually within a couple of days, but can take as much as a week.

To repeat, you don’t need to quarantine until your results come, and only need to self isolate for 10 days should you receive a positive result.

Random Testing means just that. Even if you are vaccinated, you may be randomly selected at the border crossing/ airport for on-arrival testing. If you are vaccinated you don’t need to quarantine while you await results, but should your results come out to be positive, you will need to self isolate for 10 days.

How they “randomly” select, I don’t know and don’t think anyone here can answer. It is likely up to the discretion of the CBSA officer. When my husband crossed the border into Canada on Feb 10 or several times before that, he wasn’t tested.

Not sure if this is the right thread, but I just figured out that fully vaccinated Canadians travelling back from the U.S. can still get randomly selected for an on-arrival COVID test. Have anyone you know travelled back recently and were they randomly selected for testing upon arrival? If so, how soon do the results come? Thank you!

This is what is currently in the FAQ:

How long until I get my SSN?
Even if you selected “yes” to receive your SSN on the DS260, you may not get one. If you don’t have your SSN 3 weeks after POE, go to your local social security office (during COVID this requires an appointment) to inquire about it. If you didn’t select “yes”, you’ll have to go in person regardless. It will take about 10 days after that.

Let me know if it needs revising or is out of date and I will gladly update it!

Timely reminder y'all, READ THE FAQ.

I'm not yet at your stage (but soon!):
Property tax / rent agreement or payments Utility Bills showing US address (cell-phone, internet, cable tv, electricity, etc) Financial accounts (brokerage, checking, savings) showing US address Drivers License at US Address Health Insurance paid for at US Address. ...to name a few.

I would think one or a mix of these would be undeniable US domicile proof.

You don’t need an X-ray CD. As answered above, and in many other threads in this forum.

That's what Dr. Cheema's office told me to do. Maybe it's outdated info? They said are mailing me a CD of the xrays and told me to bring them to POE. Maybe someone who has already crossed the border can confirm?

Hey everyone, just wanted to post some good news we received recently. We had originally submitted our I-130 on October 21, 2021. We heard back on March 21, 2022 (about 5 months later) that it had been approved! I updated our timeline as well so hopefully this will help keep the average waiting time estimates as accurate as possible!
We are now beginning to look into the NVC steps. I've ordered all the CRCs from the countries I've lived in (I'm the beneficiary) and we are working through the other requirements now too. Will definitely continue to follow this thread and keep everyone updated as well!
Also a side note: we heard back from the NVC within 2-3 days after we received our I-130 approval.

They do still give you the X-Ray CD for personal use. Everything else gets sent to the consulate electronically.
At the POE, they didn't ask for it, and I haven't read anywhere where the CBP officers ask for it either. Better to be on the safe side though and carry it incase they do.

I had my medical exam at Dr. Cheema's office yesterday, the whole process took 2 hours from start to finish. They had me fill out forms (personal info, address, intended US address, etc.) and took photos in the office (rather than me submitting any passport photos). I submitted my vaccination records at the front desk, and they asked me if I had chicken pox as a kid and at what age. Then Dr. Cheema saw me for the check up and asked about medical history.

After that they sent me to Life Labs for blood work and then over to an imaging place nearby for chest xrays.

It was a positive experience overall and they answered all of my questions. They are sending my xray CD and vaccine record to my home address and told me to bring the CD with me when I cross the border.

Bring your chest xray CD as well...they might not ask for it but I just had my medical at Dr. Cheema's office and they told me we're supposed to have it with us at POE in case they ask for it.

My husband was also "randomly" selected and it was not a problem; they gave him a box to self-test at home.  Purolator even came to pick up his box.  Nothing to worry about.

@darth vader the requirements will change early April, if I am not mistaken.  Could also change at anytime in the future - hopefully not to anything more restrictive.

Thank you so much both!! Medical booked for tomorrow morning at Dr Mascarenhas as it was the only one I could get on such short notice. 🤷‍♀️ Hoping there isn't a delay with anything, I wish I had a bit more heads up but I'm just happy to be moving forward!

Another huge thank you to everyone on this forum for chatting with me and helping me through all this. I'll keep everyone posted on how it goes etc! ❤️

Interview went very well, she got a reject due to her waiting on sputum test results though. At least that's done. She said the interview itself lasted maybe 5 minutes with about 2 hours of wait time. They asked her where and when were you married, where did you meet your spouse, what does your spouse do for work, what do you, and will you, do for work, and how long she knew me overall. They asked for biometric pages, her passport, my taxes and proof of employment, marriage cert and divorce decree. An ok experience overall.

Does anyone know anything about results from Montreal Chest Institute? I know that her sputum test results will take about 8 weeks but, how long does it take for the chest institute to get the results back to Telus and then how long for the Embassy to follow up on the returned results typically?

Did they give you the vaccination checklist?
I'm going to have to contact Dr. Zatzman's office again to get them to send mine as they refused the first time I asked.

I went to Dr. Mascarenhas' office and my vaccination record was accepted and he said everything looks good. The office is easy to find and the x-ray is in the same building. You have to go across the street to lifelabs for bloodwork but it is a very short walk. Highly recommend him, very nice person. Lilly from his office is the one you would email with and she is very kind and helpful.
