  1. The 2 pictures that need to be sent with the N-400 form, the guide says:

"Be sure there is enough white space in the margin of the photographs so you will have room to sign your full name if your application is approved."

I went to get my picture taken and said that it should be passport size, but they require a margin since it's for my citizenship. The guy said not to worry, they do all the passport standards and blah blah.

But then I get my pictures and it doesn't have the white margin. Has this caused anyone any issues if they don't have the margin? I wonder how important it is and if I have to redo my pictures. :(

  2. I know that this is an old post, but it's kind of relative to my question.

    In the guide it says:

"Be sure there is enough white space in the margin of the photographs so you will have room to sign your full name if your application is approved."

  3. yeah. I agree.

the other funny thing is how they want your fingerprints and stuff again. I'm no Einstein... but I'm sure that my prints are the same as they were last December and back in 2006. :)

we have to jump through hoops to get in... and I understand they don't want to make it an easy process for people or everyone would want to get in.

  4. Hi everyone.

I couldn't seem to find the answer to this in the forums.

I'm applying for citizenship based on marriage. They say to "send copies of the following docs, unless we ask for an original". Now does this mean a simple photocopy? or does it have to be certified. :o(

Like my wife's US birth cert, our marriage cert, her divorce papers from her previous marriage and blah.

It's also kind of annoying since I have to provide the same docs for my green card, green card renewal and etc... Don't they have this on file??! hehe. just letting off some steam.

    thanks,

    Dom

  5. Edit: oh, this was mentioned at the top. sorry. hehe

"ok, here is a bit of interesting information I have just gotten.

I received my first payment from Employment Insurance. I was expecting the maximum, which I thought was around 800+$, but I only received 620$. I called them and she informed me that I did get the maximum. The thing is that since we are out of the country they tax us 25%. nice... Well, at least I got some money. Now I start work on Monday. :) "

  6. Congrats!!

Just a quick question. If you had your K3, were you already living in the US? Reason I ask is because for me, I was able to pick it up next day since I was already living in Colorado. They said they make exceptions for people that currently live in the States. And if you do live in the States, didn't they give you that option?

  7. ok, I had my interview for my CR1 on friday. Seems that there is an exception to this new process. If you live in the US they will give you your visa the next day. Since I got my k3 back in october and I live in the US now, I will be able to go pick up my visa tomorrow.

  8. Would be nice if they updated the Mtl consulate webpage thus people could be aware of this new change.

This is true, because, I received my packet 4 for CR1 on Saturday, and it says that next day pickup is available, which is the information I based myself on choosing the dates for my plane ticket.

And when i spoke to the embassy (because of what was said in this post), she said that nothing is guaranteed and I should have taken measures in case of this happening. How was I supposed to know that was going to happen?? i was able to pick it up next day when I did my K3 interview at the end of October. Then she had went on to ask me why I didnt chose to do an AOS after getting the K3. I told her that waiting 2 months was obviously the best choice then doing AOS since I only had to wait 2 months! Why do I have to justify myself to her?? hehe (just venting). Cabin fever perhaps. We are in the middle of a blizzard in Colorado.

  9. I guess in my situation, if they have to mail the passport to me, I will fly back home to the US, I will bring a photocopy of my K3 visa and passport, bring birth cert and other ID to show customs and pray that that will work out :)

hmm.. no edit option. I forgot to mention, I would take a chance to fly back without the passport, since its not mandatory to have a passport to cross the border until the 23rd of January 2007.

  10. hehe, so I guess this is a bit redundant, but I just called them also, because I live in the US under the K3, and sending it to an address in Canada just doesn't really help.

Well, she said that they are putting in new security measures on the visas which is changing the "next day pick up" option. But she said they are having problems with the new measure, so she can't guarantee that next day pick up will be possible or not during the time of my interview.

I guess in my situation, if they have to mail the passport to me, I will fly back home to the US, I will bring a photocopy of my visa and passport, bring birth cert and other ID to show customs and pray that that will work out :)

  11. This is all weird. I received on Saturday my packet 4 for my CR-1 interview, and it says next day pick up or Xpresspost is available.

If this is not correct, I'm kind of screwed, since I live in the US now (under K3) and I don't have an address in Canada. Since they stamp the visa in the passport, I wouldn't be able to fly back without my passport, since I think the new rule is coming in effect sometime in January that passports are now required for Canadians and Americans to cross the border.

I will have to call them to make sure.

  12. yeah. the nurse called me back afterwards.

I mentioned to her the letter that I received with the packet was entitled "Important notice to all visa applicants concerning vaccination requirements". She had not been informed about this letter.

I read it off to her and she said that, if i remember correctly, pertussis was another term for polio, which were shots that we had under 7 years old. then she mentioned that some of the other ones were for 50+ years old.

She basicaly said that the shots that are required, i got them when i went in for the K3 visa. but she requested I fax her the letter that i received with the list of vaccinations mentioned.

    they were:

    -mumps

    -measles

    -rubella

    -polio

    -tetanus and diptheria toxoids

    -pertussis

    -influenzae type b (Hib)

    -hepatitis B

    -varicella

    -pneumococcal

    -influenza

I'll let you guys know if I got any additional information.

  13. aaaaah. ok. I just spoke to Medisys and they said that there is no problem making a copy. it's 25$.

now they are going to call me back about the vacciantions because in the packet i received, it gives an updated list of vaccinations that are required for immigrant visas. So, no time to waste to get them if I need them because of the holidays and the interview is coming!! :hehe:

  14. I got my CR-1 interview in Montreal on the 5th of January.

So, like i was told during my K3 interview, the woman said to go back to Medisys (where i did my physical) and ask them to make me a copy of my results, so that I can bring them to the CR-1 interview, once its scheduled. I went straight to Medisys after that interview (october 25th) and they said that there is no problem making copies, I just needed the new Cr1 case number so that they can put it in with the results. Didnt have it at that point, but they said no problem. When I come back for the next interview, just stop by and they would make it on the spot.

I call them this week after getting the interview date, and they are not certain they can do that. They were going to check with their director and call me back... which they have not done yet.

Hopefuly they will not make me take another physical, or i will be screwed with time. I'm, flying back to canada for 4 days.

Has anyone else have problems getting copies? and for the Cr-1, has anyone had to get extra vaccinations? i got some for the K3. just wondering if they will have to give me more.

  15. Monique, if you live near the border, you can drive down to it and activate your visa, if the visa allows multiple entries. This way your fiance/husband will have a copy of your activated visa.

After my interview in Montreal, I drove to Cornwall and activated it there since its pretty much on the way back to Gatineau/Ottawa. That saved me time when I flew out to Colorado when crossing customs.

The other thing I had done, was drive south of Ottawa, crossed the border with my mom and shipped my stuff from the Ogdensburg NY. Saved me hundreds of dollars in shipping since it was National at this point and not international shipping from Canada.

  16. OMG, I'm so sorry to hear that.

I guess it was put on hiatus more then being denied, since you just have to provide those records.

I wish you guys good luck!!

this whole thing is just a big pain in the butt, but we always have to think of the outcome at the end of all this.

  17. i had also needed my birth cert translated from french (Quebec) to english. i had found a translator do it in 2 copies with a seal of professional translator association (or something like that) and it cost approx 30$.

Just mentioning it in case the notary thing is more expensive. :)

    good luck!

  18. ah god. I thought I was getting my green card after the CR1 interview :(

i just need to work asap. the AOS is too expensive at this point when i have my CR1 interview soon. and filling out the employment authorization form is 180$ and i would get it in 3-4 months. again.. probably a waste of money at this point. hehe

    Hi guys!

Not sure if people know this, but this is about how the do the scheduling for CR1 interviews (maybe just for Montreal).

I called yesterday to get the status on my CR1 interview at the Montreal Consulate. I'm on my 7th week waiting for the interview after aproval.

They hadn't told me this before, but seems that they do the schedules on the 2nd week of the month for the following month. In other words, last week they did the schedule for the interviews in December. And, I think if your CR1 is granted, you get your green card mailed to you within the following 3 weeks. I'm just anxious to work out here. :)

hope this was useful info for someone.

    Dom

Yes from what I recall, it is sort of like that, but not quite. NVC schedules the cr-1 interviews for MTL and yes its around mid month. But they don't mail out ur green card, maybe u just had ur terminolgy incorrect, I'm sure you meant the final packet. You have to do an interview in Mtl, and there they will give you the visa that goes in ur passport that is good for 1 yr (but must be activated within 6 months) Best of luck
