  1. my wife did arrive on a B1 visa and did an AOS i called USCIS already and they will call me back within 72hrs to schedule an appointment
  2. GC was sent while we were away from home for a few months. someone was supposed to be hanging on to our mail but they did a bad job. since USCIS never told us it was sent (and i kept calling to ask) we didn't know to ask that person to be on the lookout for it. yes, AOS approved Dec14 last year yes, we moved, now in NY was approved in NC yes did e-request for I90 yes I765 and I131 was approved last year i'll call USCIS today and ask about the ADIT I551 thing
  3. so i looked at the i-155 stamp thing a bit, do i need to call USCIS set up an appointment then get the stamp at the local USCIS office? how long does all that typically take?
  4. hi, my wife's green card never arrived and the USCIS never sent any notification or tracking number or anything. so i filed a I-90, she just dd the biometrics appointment again and now USCIS say it will up to take 16 months to decide if she gets a replacement! anyhow, what's the process for getting a temporary card so can at least travel. and will it really take 16 months? thanks
  5. i moved to my new permanent address and filed a change of address with USCIS. its been 2 months since the account said " card was produced" and still nothing. how far is the post office from the printing center? how can it possibly take this long to put something in the mail?
  6. hi, my wife's GC was approved dec 8th and "produced" on dec 14th. the letter says it could be up to 90 days to get the actual GC in the mail, anyone know the average time? thanks
  7. how long does it take for status to be updated on her USCIS account? i checked today and there is nothing to indicate the approval
  8. He's trustworthy but very busy and I worry he might forget something, but I think it will be ok. So long as my wife's signature not needed I guess it will be fine. Thanks
  9. I have a tenant in my house can in theory send it to me but he's pretty flaky. Maybe I should just file a change of address then?
  10. Hi, my wife just got approved, yeah!!!! So I guess the USCIS sends the actual green card USPS registered mail, signature required right? Problem is we not going to be home for a few months, wintering down south but in the US. I don't want to register a new address since it's not a permanent move. What do you think I should do? Should I ask the post office to forward my mail to my current address? Thanks
  11. thanks. i just found what i need on the IRS website, i guess i just print that out we've been married nearly 20 years so i'm hoping not too much issues with bonafied marriage
  12. hi, i already submitted my I-864, Affidavit of Support and support docs like my social security benefit notice. the interview notice says to bring my recent tax return, is i ok i just take a copy of the one i filed with the IRS or do i need to get a certified IRS printout? thanks
  13. hi, i applied for AOS I485 for my wife 2 years ago this month. still waiting, USCIS says they are processing. anyhow we have the I131 parole thing and we want to get away for the winter for 3-4 months. options are go back to Thailand (wife's home country) or go to Mexico. I was thinking MX because quick and easy to get back if an interview date comes up but then i thought, easier to explain away a long trip to Thailand because need to spend time with family. what would be the better option for avoiding issues coming back, or do you think no issues to worry about? thanks
  14. we've been waiting over a year for AOS, I485 interview. we just filed 2022 joint tax return, is it worth uploading that to my wife's support documents as addition proof that we are still together? thanks
  15. we'd probably change the return flight to get back in time. my main concern is when she gets to the port of entry at JFK, they would question why she was gone for so long.
  16. are you talking about I131 application? it took 14 months for my wife to finally get one and i called every month to ask then why so long
  17. my wife is awaiting green card interview for I485 AOS. she finally got an Advance Parole Document (I131) after waiting over a year. Its valid for a year so expires Mar 2024. We'd like to travel to Thailand for 4 months next winter, is 4 months too long for a Advance Parole? I've heard people say you should only leave for a few weeks but that may be just BS. any thoughts? thanks PS, I know if we get an interview appointment while we are away, we'd have to come back sooner.
  18. is she now USC or still on greencard? i didn't realize she could get SS while you were still alive. this is all great news. thanks
  19. i'm 63, my wife is 53, i stated taking SS at 62. good to know she'll be eligible in 9 years.
  20. great info, thanks for that. at this point i'm thinking we just stay retired, living in the US for most of the time with a couple of quick trips abroad for a couple of months each. then apply for n400 in 3 years. i think when my wife is US citizen she would automatically receive my SS survivor benefit so no need for her to do her own SS.
  21. ok, thanks. what about time in the USA? suppose we are here for about 7 months a year and travel for about 5, would that negatively impact naturalization?
  22. my wife just got employment authorization, hopefully green card soon. she'd like to get citizenship ASAP. is it usually necessary to have a work/tax/SS history in the US to get citizenship? i ask because we're retired and not working, but maybe she should do some work if it helps the citizenship process. thanks
  23. my wife just got an I-797 employment authorization as part of the AOS I-485 application. she actually has no real plans to work, we're both basically retired. but it would be advantageous for her to get SS in 10 years (i know its necessary to work 10 year, 4 points a year to get 40 points to be eligible for SS). Also i'd like her to get my survivor benefits when i eventually kick the bucket. given she doesn't have a real job, what's the alternative? i'm guessing just file taxes and SS as self employed and make up a job like house keeper, nanny or something. do you think the IRS and SS admin would take a dim view of someone doing that if not working. usually they what to find people who don't pay tax on income, not the other way round, so i'm thinking OK. also, down the road i'd like her to get citizenship. is that easier if she has paid taxes and SS or don't they care? what do you all think? thanks
