  1. Hi everyone...Nigel got his biometrics appt letter today and it's for September 5 when we will be on a plane flying back from California. It gives instructions to reschedule but before we do that I am wondering if anyone has gone through this process. I'm worried that it'll set up back weeks or months if we attempt to reschedule. But rebooking our trip could also be a big problem. If anyone has had experience rescheduling this appt I'd love some feedback!

    Thanks,

  2. Well Nigel has been here a week and is already bored since he can't work. Is he allowed to take a volunteer position? He is an avid cycler so he would love to work at a bike shop or really any place that will keep him busy. Anyone know if volunteering is allowed since he wouldn't be paid?

  3. Hi all... Since most people reading this forum are already in the States I'm wondering if you can tell me how long it took you to clear customs when you entered on your K-1. Nigel is flying in on Wednesday and I want to bring my family to the airport with me to greet him but don't know how long he'll be so I can't really tell them when to get there. I assume it'll take him longer than usual to get through customs since he'll have paperwork for them to check, fill out, etc. He's flying into Washington Dulles but feedback from any airport experience would be great.

    Thanks,

    Christine

  4. Seems like UPS is the way to go for most stuff. And I'm going over for one last trip in the beginning of May so I'll probably bring a big suitcase with me and take some of his stuff back with me. Still not sure what he'll do with his bikes but I'm sure we'll figure it out.

  5. You'll be given an exact interview date and time. I've read on here about at least one person who requested an interview during a specific month and their request was granted. So it's worth a try if you want to email the embassy after packet 3 or send your request in on the checklist with packet 3. But since the visa is good for 6 months you shouldn't have any problems working through February if you anticipate a December interview.

Regarding trips to the States after the packets have been sent...Nigel came over right after he sent everything back from packet 3 and he had no problems. As anyone here will tell you it's entirely up to the POE officer to let someone in or not. Bring evidence of ties to the UK and answer questions honestly and odds are you'll be fine. Most of the times when people mention they've been turned away it's because they've had a history of staying for long periods of time in the States throught VWP.

  6. I concur that an attorney is not necessary if your case is pretty straightforward. Many people advised Nigel and I to get an attorney and I was considering it before I found this site. But after finding the site there was no need for an attorney. You'll get all the advice you need on here as well as a step-by-step guide. And as long as you can double and triple check your paperwork to make sure you have all your boxes checked I'm sure you'll be fine.

  7. Dulles is kind of a pain because most of the terminals require a shuttle bus ride. So I personally would feel comfortable if I had at least an hour and a half in between connections. The airport isn't difficult to navigate per se, just takes some time if you have to switch terminals.

  8. Nigel had his interview this morning and his visa was approved!! He couldn't believe how long he had to sit around and wait for a 3-minute "interview" but was very happy and excited that it's all over with. I'll put more info in the embassy review section but he had a very positive experience. Now we can sit back and relax until after we're married and the paperwork start all over again :)

One question for those of you who have already been approved in London.....The embassy is sending the passport to Nigel's registered home address which is also his parent's address. He won't actually be there later this week to get the package when it comes. Can his parents sign for it? He thought maybe he needed to send his license to them so they could prove that he lives there and they are allowed to accept his packages. Did anyone else have a similar experience?

    Thanks!

  9. Hi all - Nigel has his interview next week so I'm trying to find a list of everything we need. I checked the US Embassy website and found their list but I remember others posting a list in this forum for others in the past. Does anyone have that handy because I can't seem to find it in the archives? I'm trying to double and triple check everything :)

    Thanks!
