SparklePony got a reaction from Mike E in After oath, when can SSA and DMV be updated?
    Hi all,

Quick question, if anyone knows. My oldest kiddo took her oath yesterday, and tomorrow is actually a really good time for her to update her status at our local SSA office and DMV. The packet she received at the ceremony recommends waiting 7-10 days to do so, but I don't recall waiting when I naturalized. Anyone has any thoughts to share on this? We're in Georgia, if that makes a difference. She'll do the passport after but there's no rush on that. Thanks!!

As others said will be an oral test. They also will ask him to read a phrase on a tablet and write the answer too.

Mine was like in the middle of the conversation, the agent just asked me 3 or 4 questions.

    Good Luck

The civics test is administered orally, and it’s not a multiple choice test. If you get the first six answers right, they’ll move on with the interview.
I’d recommend you have your kid use the materials @Mike E provided and be prepared to answer as closely to what is in those as possible. Also, have him/her memorize the names of your senators (technically, just one is required), the governor of your state, and your rep in the House. Best of luck!

All of us who have gone before you felt like this too: we're just two people in love who want to start their lives together, why is everything so complicated? And yet, once that stage of things is over and we're finally married, it all seems like it passed in the blink of an eye. Patience is the name of the game with USCIS - we've all been there, we know how it goes, and stressing over it or feeling like your case is different and special won't help you - quite the opposite, it will leave you frustrated and anxious. And your fiance is from a low fraud country, so things will most likely end up being fairly easy, smooth and fast for you once your I-129F is approved. Some countries have it a LOT worse: hard interviews, a need for the USC to be present at the interview otherwise it gets denied, or even very very long Administrative Processing times after the interview, only to end up with a denial.

Really, as hard as it may feel right now, relax. You're only just beginning your journey.

On April 23rd I had my oath ceremony, I'm officially a US citizen! I got there 15 minutes before my appointment time and went through security then up to the second floor. There was someone there to double check my letter and asked me to sit in a specific place in the waiting room. They then called people up one by one based on where they were sat up to the check in desk. Someone was there to ask some of the questions that you answer on your letter, then he took my greencard and I got a number on a little US flag. I was then instructed to sit in a specific place based on my number, I saw a little commotion when (I'm assuming) the wife of an applicant was there and insisting that she needed to be in the room. I couldn't hear exactly but eventually they convinced her to wait outside since only interpreters were allowed in.

The person who ran the ceremony was miserable, haha. Very solemn about the fact that we don't get the full ceremony because of Covid. He mentioned that "just because you're not getting the full ceremony doesn't mean it isn't special" and Covid this Covid that about 3 times. He then went on to say the usual speech then made us all swear the oath, then we gave ourselves a round of applause and sat back down and waited to be called up one by one to get our certificate. We got a very stern warning to check our certificates for errors, because if we leave the building and there is a mistake we'll be charged $600 to change it. Once I had my certificate in hand I went into the waiting room, checked it (all good) and left. I overheard someone asking if we needed to sign the certificates there and then but an IO said no, sign it later. No passport application area, no photos allowed inside, it was very much an in and out situation. For me, that wasn't necessarily a bad thing, since I'm not one for ceremonies! Would've appreciated someone a bit more light hearted though to welcome me in as a citizen not some doom and gloom man 🤣

Since Social Security offices are closed and passports are appointment only, I decided to apply for my passport first since I'll have to mail my naturalization certificate with my application and then once I have my passport I can use my passport to change my SSN card. Glad to almost be done with the process, happy to have had a place like VJ to help me since 2015, and to everyone else still waiting hang in there and I hope you get results soon!

Just be aware that name changes need to be approved by a judge and that may potentially impact how long it takes to schedule the oath ceremony. I had initially requested a name change in my naturalization paperwork but today, at the interview, I was told that because courts are closed throughout the southeast because of Covid, that could mean a waiting period of up to a year, or even longer, for my ceremony to be scheduled. I decided it was best to get the ceremony done now and pay to change my name later, than wait for the combo. Things may be different where you're at, and given that you haven't filed yet, by the time your case gets to that point everything will be resolved. But I wanted to give you the heads up.

Hi everyone, March 2020 filer here.
I see many times people continue to share their timelines on forums, but do not fill this information in their profile.
In your Profile, under My Timeline, under "add comment to Timeline" there is a window for N-400 data.
Filing this out will allow people to click on your Timeline next to your pic/avatar and view your time path.
More importantly, this data will appear in dedicated N-400 Timline on this portal for everyone to compare, here it is: https://www.visajourney.com/timeline/citlist.php?cfl=&op5=5,10,11

I do not remember the sentence they asked me to read, mostly because I didn't expect the English portion of the test to happen when it did, but the sentence I was asked to write was "Washington was the first president". The questions they asked for the Civics teste were:

    What did Abraham Lincoln do?
Where is the Statue of Liberty located?
    Who is the President now?
What is the capital of my state?
Who was President during the Great Depression?
    Who makes federal laws?

I was an Atlanta filer too but they scheduled me for the interview at the Montgomery AL office for today. It was only a just-under-2hr drive, as opposed to the slightly-over-1hr-with-no-traffic to Atlanta, so it worked out for us. Interview was actually super fast and easy so I am not complaining they sent me there! And now my oath ceremony is already scheduled as well, so I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that this whole thing will be over very soon!

Oh wow! I requested a name change as well (I have been divorced for 4 years), I wonder if they take into consideration where in GA you live.  I know the City of Atlanta Courts are open and working.
    Fingers crossed!
Also Congratulations on the end of you Journey. 🙂

I attended the Oath ceremony this morning.

I registered the vote when I got home and at least I can participate the senate’s runoff election!

    Hi all,

Just got a text/email that one of my kiddo's ROC was approved and the card was issued for production. The other one had a soft update on May 06 but no approval yet, even though her number is immediately right after the other. Hoping for another update for her soon. Just as a reminder, they're both SRC receipts, filed on September 06, Biometrics done on November 14.

Just wanted to chime in that timing of the N-400 is important to me. My oldest child will turn 18 in October. If I can somehow finish my naturalization process before her birthday, she gets derivative citizenship. If I can't, she'll have to wait a few more years then re-apply as an LPR with the 5-year rule. So, it's a time and cost issue for us, plus the weirdness of having everyone in her immediate family be a citizen except her. Now, is it somehow life-threatening or crucial? Obviously not. But in our case, it's clearly not a matter of simply "waiting a few more months".
