I go to the Home Depot on South Carrier Parkway just north of Interstate 20 in Grand Prairie, I have never seen any illegal aliens standing around looking for work. Your mission, should you wish to accept it, is to come by and take a picture of the illegals supposedly hanging around this Home Depot and prove me wrong by posting the picture in this thread.

Well as I say - when you're single its worth looking inwards before you conclude that the women in your own country are the reason why you're single.

I think you may find that this line of thinking died out some time in the 1950s.
    Traditional roles aren't static.

I always thought a marriage was about compromise and mutual respect, not a dictatorship.

I'm curious. How do conversations go inside your home? Is your wife allowed to have an opinion about anything in the US, since she's not from here?

Forgive him; being married to a foreigner, he can't go on a website that talks about us since his own wife would be a target. Bigots tend to encompass all races that aren't of the Aryan type. So he has to come here and express his disdain. It would be tragic if it wasn't so pathetic.

He is just Lostinblack and should find a forum that reflects his mentality. Not a day goes by here that a skin color isn't discussed. Pathetic.

I find it pathetic that this is an immigration forum and people have spouses from all over the world yet some members constantly bash certain minorities, even though they themselves are married to a minority spouse. All minorities are created equal, but some are more equal than others.

The problem is, people like this in the Quiverfull/Gothard movement, especially women and girls, have been brainwashed from the get-go that this is acceptable behavior through abuse and psychological control. They don't know any better, because they have been essentially groomed to accept their husband's failings with humility and submit to his actions. They will even blame themselves for not providing their husband with a desirable outlet for their attractions. That's most likely exactly what this wife is doing now.

Unless there's a hint that it's being abused, then there's no such thing as a genuine refugee. Fleeing persecution and murder in your own country? Doesn't happen, they just want a free McDonald's

Being brainwashed from birth isn't a weakness. It does bother me she'll be seen as strong, but I don't think it's that she's weak, either. Strength or weakness comes from making choices and this is a woman who honestly does not believe she has any other choice.

she'll stay, but i don't see her staying as weak. she simply doesn't have a choice. to us, she does and the choice is simple. but, their brand of christian is a cult and i guess i don't really even consider her as ever having a single independant thought, let alone the spine to stick up for herself/her kids. to do so would be to go against god. this will all be presented to her as a test that god is giving her, to test her strength, but more importantly strength of the marraige.

Here's the thing: When wages are low, people don't have much choice.
My wife and I care very deeply, but also a) need enough clothes that we can get through a work week or two without stinking in the Texas heat and b) don't have much money since we're both at entering points into careers.
This means that I can't afford 40-50 dollars for a t-shirt. I can't afford NOT to get the best possible price for things. I hate Amazon. We boycotted it for almost two years at one point, but, because science and her lab are underfunded, she had no choice but to start using it again and then with the immigration costs, we don't have the money, even with two incomes, to furnish our house, keep clothes on our backs, eat, pay rent, pay for our car and have anything left over if we don't literally buy the cheapest option for everything.
It sucks. A lot. But I can't afford, for example, 15 dollars in a store for a cell phone charger when I can get it for a dollar on Amazon. The other 14 dollars could buy food, buy almost a full tank of gas...
Sweatshop labour (including Amazon) happens when sweatshop wages are being paid worldwide. And the entry level wages are insufficient.

So anyone who's not a soldier should shut up? Sorry, I just don't buy it.
I've had good jobs and bad jobs. I've had jobs where I literally put everything in and worked a hundred hours a week (that's not an exaggeration--sometimes I literally slept on the floor at work waiting for the next task) and I've had 9-5 style jobs and I've worked a lot of retail. At my hundred hour jobs, I was being paid well and my boss encouraged breaks and mental downtime during my workday. At my 9-5s, I was being paid reasonably well and my boss encouraged the bare minimum of breaks, but at least I got them. When working retail, hours jerk you around so you cannot plan a damn thing in your actual downtime because people have already made plans that don't include you, you get paid poorly and forget about labour laws--breaks may not exist and if you need to pee, you better have a strong sphincter.
Amazon sounds like the hour expectations of my hundred hour jobs combined with the thanklessness and unpredictability of a retail position.
People should be able to work to live, not live to work. It sounds like Amazon both doesn't allow that and purposely puts its headquarters in right to work states to avoid the risk of unionization.

Yup. Companies pull this safe with the knowledge that most people will either think 'it's hard to prove' or will fear becoming unemployable if they dare complain and anyone finds out.

Washington is an "at will work" state. If you don't have a union contract and you don't like it ( working all hours of the day, always on email), don't let the door hit your backside on the way out.
These types of practices are common in the IT industry. I think the question is, to what degree. Articles like these put a drag on Amazons hiring efforts, it is bad publicity they will need to overcome. Not being able to pull in top engineering talent could harm their expansion.
I lived 9 years of life under Microsoft before I determined that lifestyle was not for me, many of my friends stayed and thrived. There were several opportunities to work for Amazon, I am sure I would not have liked it. Some of the folks I knew who left MS for Amazon found the work challenging, most of them made lots of money and got out.
The most troubling are the allegations that folks with health concerns ( cancer, miscarriages, cardiact) were edged out. This could be a violation of the law. Amazon HR should take these allegations seriously,
Bezos recognizes the harm that the NY Times narrative can do to his business"
Amazon said late Sunday that it would not tolerate the “shockingly callous management practices” described in an article in The New York Times over the weekend. Jeff Bezos, the retail giant’s founder and chief executive, said he did not recognize the workplace portrayed in the article and urged any employees who knew of “stories like those reported” to contact him directly.
“Even if it’s rare or isolated, our tolerance for any such lack of empathy needs to be zero,” Mr. Bezos said in an email circulated to all the retailer’s employees.

Because sex workers definitely deserve to be murdered. Sex work shouldn't be criminalized and this is one of the reasons why.

But seriously, I've known many transpeople who were terrified of the police because even when they weren't sex workers, the police ignore them and call them sex workers or put them in wrong-gendered cells for made-up reasons and end up being sexually assaulted.
