All of my education is from overseas, both the United Kingdom and Ireland respectively. When I arrived here in the US I sent away both my transcripts to a company which evaluates education. There are numerous different companies and the prices range from close to $100 up to $250. Make sure you get a reputable company, and get a few copies of their translations and evaluations.
Here are some websites that might be off help.

In general your education should transfer over to US standards, in fact a majority of the time European education is more prestigious than that of the US.
Good Luck!

As far as I know you need it for the whole UK. Call your local police station and they will tell you if they forwarded it onto Scotland Yard. If not you'll probably need it.

Double check on the police certificate for your own sake and sanity. I lived in Scotland too, but had to get a copy of my Scottish Police Report (which I got from the local district) and then application that I initially filled out was forwarded onto Scotland Yard to get the National one. It took a little over 40 days to get the National one, and in my interview I had to show both.

If its anything about Korea, we got our marriage certificate immediately, and filed DCF a few days later

I'd suggest going into the smaller local station, they are always a little more willing to help
Good luck!

It depends, if you request it in writing it'll take longer. I went into the local garda station in the morning and it was ready that evening by 5pm. If your fiance is from a small town and they know him/her well it'll make it a lot easier. I had one garda tell me that I had to send a letter to somewhere in the South asking for the certificate, and I asked to speak to her supervisor. He basically said that was a pile of #######, and he'd have it ready by that evening. Explain what its for, and that its urgent and they'll help you out. If your fiance is overseas, he can write to the superintendent in the garda station and have them send it to where he is now. Here's the link to all the information you need regarding birth certificates and police certificates from Ireland

Good Luck, and don't stress out about it!

Well thought that I'd add my timeline.
I received my green card last April with my maiden name on it. Everything else including my SSN and drivers license had the correct married name on it. Anyhow I'm a procrastinator and eventually sent back my green card July 21st, including the forms that needed to be filled out and documentation that it was a mistake of the USCIS and not me. I went on vacation the first week in August and low and behold when I got back there was my new green card, with correct name, and four more welcome letters!! It took a grand total of ten days from the day I sent back the card. So just for those waiting, there is a ray of hope!! ( My service center was TX for those wondering)

Hey all,
Well we got our green card in the mail a few weeks, ago, long story as it had the wrong surname for me, it used my maiden name. Anyhow besides that we are moving this week, and I need to inform the USCIS right? I was wondering what form I need to use, and also doesn't my husband have to inform them too? What form does he need to fill out.
Thanks all

You'll probably get a letter from your local area first maybe four weeks after applying. Then it usually takes 40days from start to finish. I applied for mine in November and got it the beginning of January...its a pretty long wait!
-
LOL maybe its me that is confused. I entered on my CR1, yes, and have my greencard valid for two years.....but I was under the impression that after two years I'd have to go do an interview to become a permanant resident. Right now, its no big deal that the card is in my maiden name, I have my SS#, my drivers license and my military ID in my married name. My passport is also in my maiden name. So I'm just wondering if I should wait it out or if I should just go ahead and have the error corrected. Am I right in thinking that I will have to send back the card with the error on it when I file the I-90?
-
Well I got my greencard, and it has my maiden name on it, whereas I filed all paperwork in my married name. When I got my visa in my passport in Korea, it was in my maiden name but they told me that the green card would be in the correct name. Well of course that would be too easy. So folks what should I do? Should I send it back and request a new one, or should I wait until our AOS interview and then ask for it to be issued in my married name? Any suggestions??
-
Hey I'm really sorry it didn't work out going through Seoul. It appears from my own experience with them that they are not all that competant anyhow. They managed to issue my visa in my maiden name, and subsequently my green card was issued in that name too. Even though they reassured me on the day of the interview that my SS # and green card would be in my married name. Hopefully if you do file here in the US, you can find some senator that will expedite the case for you, as you have had a long enough wait as it is. Best Wishes!
-
Well I finally got my greencard, and alas its in my maiden name.......what should I do now, its really frustrating cos I filed all the paper work in my married name, but anyhow! What next?
-
Well got my "Welcome to America" letter today, it says case complete nothing about the "green card" and also they have address me using my maiden name, not my married name, which is what I filled out on each application......what comes next do you think?
-
Still nothing..........
nada!!!
-
So what do you do if you DCF? I never had an NOA # so don't know how to check anything
I'm getting so frustrated! Anyhow...........
I found this information on the USCIS website regarding the wait time for green cards. It says that if you have entered the United States more than 60 days ago, on an immigrant visa and have not received your first permanant resident card call 1800-375-5283. Hope this helps.

My passport is in my maiden name, my visa is in my maiden name, but my ssn etc is in my married name, I did all my paper work in my married name, so I think you should be just fine!
-
I've still got nothing...
No welcome letter, no greencard......how long does it generally take to get here??? A month 6??
-
Here's hoping, cos I went to get my drivers license yesterday and they wouldn't give it to me without my real and official greencard. Now I'm stuck cos my husband is starting training for deployment in a few weeks and probably going to Iraq in August, and I'm stuck in NC with no means of transport and a baby lol should be interesting!

Hey all, well made it here to the United States on March 25th, got my temporary "green card" in my passport and went to the SS office a few days later and got my number, now just wondering when should I expect to get my actual "green card". Also my visa in my passport is in my maiden name, but ALL of my paperwork was done in my married name, including my DS-230, would I be incorrect in thinking that my "green card" should be in my married name? My SS is in my married name.
Thanks all!

Thanks all for all your help and encouragement!!!

Well folks, did my interview today here in Seoul, I was the first in line, and the first to be interviewed, and the first to be approved. I was way over prepared! They didn't ask for any proof of our relationship, and only barely glanced at the paperwork. They were wonderful and very sweet. The guy who interviewed me only asked three questions 1. How did you meet? 2. When did you get married? 3. When do you want to go to the United States? To the later I answered as soon as possible. And his reply, come in Monday afternoon and pick up your visa. Happy Saint Paddy's Day!! I am so so happy, on cloud nine. Thank you all for all of your help over the past couple of months, you have been awesome. And for the record it took exactly 4 months to the day for my visa to be approved!
Happy Saint Paddy's Day All!!!!

Also do I check the checklist before I hand it in or do they as they are going through the documents? Thanks
German Education - Translates in USA?

Hey Susanne,
It shouldn't really make any difference how the degree is examined, if the company is decent they should be able to convert it into US standards. My studies form the UK consisted of four years and a total of ten exams over the four years. This translated into a Undergraduate Degree with 120 semester hours, with a dual major of English and Education. I guess it would do no harm to call or email one of the companies and see what they say. Good Luck with it all!!!
