joshuah57 reacted to Bill and Tanya in Why would a Russian be denied K1 visa at interview?
Privet everyone! I am relatively new to the forums here, as well as to international relationships and immigration law, so I beg your forgiveness for my ignorance in advance)))
I met my fiance online last year, and after several interesting trials (check my posts here if you are curious), we are ready to marry. A good friend of mine, who I completely trust to give me good and accurate advice told me that the US consulate in Russian is extremely critical on couples applying for visa. She explained that Russia is a high visa fraud country and that meeting once is no longer acceptable in their eyes, insisting that we meet twice to have any real chance to be approved for a visa.
She also asked me to check with you guys in the RUB forum, and praised all of you for your kindness and unbiased advice. What I would like to know is do we really have to meet again? My girl has a 7 year old daughter, and besides the financial burden it will place on us to take another vacation together, it is extremely difficult for her to secure someone she trusts to watch her little girl while she leaves the country to visit a man.
Furthermore, is there any advice you can give that pertains to the US consulate in St. Petersburg that can help us not to make any mistakes, or things they like to see in lieu of a second meeting? I understand that it is not all of you I must convince that the relationship is real. All of you are no different than me in this regard. But I really love this woman and her daughter, and only want the chance to provide the life for them that I know they deserve.
Thank you for your help. I am proud to be part of this community.

Besides the required documents, they asked for no proof of relationship. Montreal is really easy in this aspect. It's very rare to be asked for proof of relationship. I still most definitely suggest bringing it, but it's likely you won't be asked at all for it. The interview is also very short (compared to other countries). I was in the actual interview room less than 5 minutes. Was only asked two questions. I suggest you read my review (found by clicking on the 'timeline' button to the left)

If you polled most of the people on this forum, I would guess that many, if not most, knew very little about immigration procedures when they "fell in love". We don't know all of the OP's financial background or all the details of the personal life either. All I saw was someone conveying their opinion on what they think is an unfair system. I again believe that most of us would also agree there are multiple problems with the immigration system. We should be working together to fix these problems. After all, this is our country, isn't it?

Nebraska?? Did someone say Nebraska?? I didn't think we were in Kansas anymore...
To be honest, I'm getting used to talking with my wife on the phone all the time. Maybe we should just keep it this way. We don't need to see each other everyday, do we?? I have tons of money to visit her a couple times a year. Ya know, this would be perfect for raising a child!!! The child could stay with one of us for 3 or 4 months at a time
Let us all just be honest with ourselves. We are in no hurry, are we?? We need to take it easy in this life and not hurry anything. "One thing at a time" they always say.
I wish you all the best of luck and hope this takes years for you all

Actually, it can also be looked at in just the opposite way. It can show that you are financially supporting your spouse, not buy him/her. Don't forget, finance is also a big issue since the state does not want to be supporting the immigrant in the future.

joshuah57 got a reaction from cocolucho in Income tax return issues...urgent advice needed plz
I just finished doing my taxes for 2014. I filed married filing separately just like it has been said many times on here. I plan on amending my return when she gets here. For those who do their own taxes or are thinking of doing their own taxes, it is VERY easy to do this. I did use TaxAct to do my taxes. Everything is filled out completely normal except you don't fill nothing in for your spouse's SSN or ITIN and then you check the box for married filing separately. TaxAct even asks if the spouse is a nonresident alien and it automatically put NRA in the SSN/ITIN line. I would think other software like TurboTax would also do the same. You will not be able to E-file though. You will have to mail in your papers.
I do have a question of my own though. I asked my wife if she has any papers showing what she made last year. She didn't keep any documents since she doesn't really pay any taxes since she makes so little and is going to school in Germany. For those that amended later or include spouse's income on their taxes, what amounts did you use? Do you have to convert it to American dollars? If you did, did you use the current exchange rate or the exchange rate then? Do other countries have an equivalent to the USA's W-2?
Oh, and one more thing....For those who plan on amending their returns, MAKE SURE you print or have extra copies of your taxes. You will need them when you redo your taxes and compare the differences when doing your amended return (form 1040X).

Mine is vermont btw.

Congratulations on your marriage and good luck!!
We sent our I-130 packet in on October 9th. On the 14th, we got our NOA1 and it is being routed to the Nebraska Service Center.
I pray this is a short wait for us all!
