Hello friends!
My wife is Filipina and is now enjoying her Legal Permanent Residency (with restrictions) here with me in Chicago area.
All her new papers are in my last/surname - her SS card, Drivers License & Green Card. Her Philippine passport is still valid too, in her maiden name of course.
We plan to go to France for 2 weeks end of June and I am wondering:
-in what name shall I buy her Air Ticket? My last name or her maiden name as it appears on her Passport?
-what documents shall I bring to present to US Imigration upon our return to validate her status? I have ALL documents, even several copies of our Certified Marriage License/Certificate
Any other advice is much appreciated!
Thanks so much!
Cheers,
Sonnyboy (Todd)

Hi friends.....
I filed my wife's AOS in late May 2006 and got our NOA1 on May 24th. She came on a Fiance Visa in March. We married in the allowed time frame, I filed the papers METICULOUSLY and AS REQUIRED by USCIS.
She had her Biometrics appt in mid-June and she already got her EAD Card,.....but NO TOUCHES on her AOS (I-485) since June 17th!
Should I be wondering if there is a problem? I received no RFE and quite honestly - there is NOTHING lacking in the file I assembled. And, I make well beyond the reuired income and have sent PROOF - 3 yrs of Tax Returns.
I called the general USCIS phone number but spoke to only the automated system with my MSC receipt number.
Any advice? Is there even a number I can call to speak with someone - a live person? Will it even help?
Thanks for the advice.
Cheers!

Yes Dorothy, you can get CErtified Copies at your City Hall, where marriage took place. I got 2 certified copies, just in case. And as for me and my wife, I just filed a COPY of the Certified Marriage License from City Hall. I also filed ALL COPIES of originals with her K-1 and it didn't cause any problems.
Being organized, complete and professional in your filing is very helpful, as you probably know by now.
Good luck,
Todd

Hello everyone
I am currently holding a conditional green card. I have heard some information about assisting housing living for low income family. The rent for those apartment over those area are very low. Will it affect my green card if I apply for those Assissting Housing Living? Because I know that for green card holder, I shouldn't apply for any public assisstant (like Welfare Program, Unemployment, or Food Stamp . . . ). I don't know this Assisstaning House Living program consider a public assisstant or not. Anybody ever have any experience like this, please help me
Wow. Hopefully there is a VALID reason for your desire to get on the backs of working US Taxpayers. Hm. It's difficult for me to restrain my reaction after reading this.

Hi again! hehe
we went to the USCIS surgeon to have our I-693 Vaccination Supplement form filled out successfully and now have a copy of it.
The Dr. ALSO gave us a SEALED envelope with forms inside it that I will keep sealed obviously,....but....do I file that sealed envelope with our AOS package along with a copy of the form that the Dr gave to us? Or do I just file the COPY, and BRING the SEALED envelope to our yet-to-be arranged AOS interview?
Thanks again,
Todd

Hello friends,
I am now assembling my wife's AOS package. She came in on a K-1 Fiance Visa. Do I include the I-130 with the AOS Package??? I think so.... And,... do I (the US citizen) need to submit a G-325A for MYSELF in this AOS package? I thought I only needed to submit my foreign wife's G-325A?
Please help!
Thanks,
Todd

Hello friends,
I am just ready to file my wife's AOS and have questions regarding the costs involved...
we have decided that filing the I-131 is not really necessary for her (by her decision) and I a now wondering if the total cost of the AOS is different... I read that the AOS fee for the typical full-file is $325 + the $70 for the Biometrics fee...
I know to attach my checks on the front of the file, but do I make ONE check for the whole package? ANd if so, what would be the AOS fee IF WE DO NOT FILE THE I-131? Or the same cost regardless if we file the I-131 or not... Also, I know the Biometrics fee is $70,...is that a separate check?
Another filing time....nerves are rattling.....I'm a stickler for details and thankfully, this site and you people always help!
Thanks a lot!

aos, ead, advance parole all with new married name, she can put her old name where applies as all other old names used.....
if the medical was within a year yes she only needs vaccination supplement 693A with doctor authorized by uscis, shop around usually cost is 25 dlls and you get it in about a week, make sure she brings all her vaccination records at doctors appt. and ask only for supplement ok
in reference to ss#, she should apply for her ssn now with her own name and then just change it for married name, if she waits and wants to apply when the 90 days are about to expire ss wont give it her, then she will have to wait till she gets the ead card.........
its not necesary she has it but it is usefull as id, to apply for drivers licence, bank acct, etc.
i came on k1 too and i did it like this, 2 weeks after arrival got my ssn, 1 week after marriage i change ssc for one with married name, i am now waiting for aos and ead card i applied a month ago, after i get ead i will go to get ssc without restrictions....
good luck
by the way, nice pictures you make such a nice couple
congratulations
hey thanks Rocio! So let me make sure I understand you correctly....
We are ALREADY married. Tomorrow I will take my wife to the SSN office to file for her SSN card, but will they issue it only in her MAIDEN name now? Even if we are already married?? Do you mean the SSN office will not issue her a SSN in her new name (my family name) until my wife receives her EAD Card? Is that true? OR am I misunderstanding you? If we bring our CERTIFIED MARRIAGE LICENSE in with us to the SSN office along with other Official forms of ID will they issue her SSN Card in my/OUR family name to her? Please clarify my friend.
And I do appreciate the complements on our pics! I think you also look great as a couple! Moi Bueno! Molto Bene!

hello all...
I'm the US citizen, newly married to my filipina wife. She entered US on K-1 Visa and we married soon after her arrival. I'm now preparing to file her AOS and have some questions...
-on the several forms (I-485, G-325A, I-130, I-765 etc...) as the forms ask for my wife's FAMILY NAME, am I assuming correctly that I now put MY/OUR family name now that we are married, which she will now accept as her new family name? I think so, but please advise....because then the G-325A goes on to ask for my wife's MAIDEN name...
-regarding the I-693 Medical Form & Vaccination Supplement.... My wife had her K-1 Visa interview in February 2006 (Montreal) and her required Medical Exam for the Visa in January 2006... I seem to find that she does NOT need another Medical Exam but needs only a VACCINATION SUPPLEMENT. I have a copy of the Vaccinations she received in January, in Toronto, with me here. Do we need to schedule a visit to the designated Governmental Gen. Surgeon, locally here in Chicago to have him/her fill out this VACCINATION SUPPLEMENT? And,...do I then file that form with her AOS Package? Is that Vacc Supplement form included in the 4-page I-693 Form??
-regarding her new SSN & EAD.... I/we decided NOT to have her get a Soc. Sec. Number until AFTER we married. Somewhere I read that she CANNOT file for a SSN until she has her EAD. Is this true? We have not filed her EAD yet but will with the full AOS package. Please advise on this, I am a bit confused. We would like to get her SSN after we receive the NOA1 for her AOS documents.....is this possible? Do we need to wait for the actual EAD approval/card??? Hmmm.
Anyway, thanks in advance for reading my long questionaire and your wealth of knowledge. I would appreciate ANY and ALL further advice - even for which I have not yet asked.
Cheers!

First, congratulations!
Second,
And now for your questions
- If she flies from Toronto, yes, that will be her POE
- ticket and envelope that will be sent along with her Visa. Do not open the envelope inside the Expresspost envelope
- I don't think so
You will have to go through the USC line at customs, she will go through the regular line. After clearing customs, they will then take her to go through the immigration part of her entry. I confirmed this with customs on my last visit.
Thanks a lot Carrie. And yes I did fill in my Timeline - click on the MY TIMELINE link on my Profile to see it.
Cheers
My Fiance, a Filipina in Toronto, has an Approved I-129F (it will be Express Mailed to her) and is scheduled to fly home here to Chicago with me on Feb 25th saturday.
My questions.....
-is Toronto's Pearson Airport her POE?
-what documents other than the Passport/Visa will she need to have handy with her?
-i know about the I-94 Entrance Form she needs to fill out at the airport...are there any other forms to fill at the airport?
-and....plz give ur advice on her POE day that I may pass on to her....
Thank you all so much, I have found a WEALTH of valuable knowledge on this site from a bunch of fantastic people!
Love to u all....
Sonnyboy
I hope she has more than an approved I-129F. Does she have a visa in her passport? This post confused me.
Yes, my mistake. She has the Visa in her Passport. A semantical error on my part.

Would you mind filling out your timeline so the rest of us can get an idea of the Montreal processing times?
Thanks!!
Sure! Our timeline is (was) as follows....
-my fiance received the Checklist and other Forms from the Montreal Consulate on the 2nd week of December.
-She Express Mailed them BACK to Montreal b4 Christmas.
-US Consulate OFFICIALLY received our Checklist & Forms Dec. 28th and assigned a Case Number.
-I was told by the Consulate Official (I called weekly to check on progress, AND emailed and kindly requested a QUICK Interview date) that they were scheduling Interviews for early March (that was told to me on January 5th).
-by January 26th, when I called to check on things, I was told - WE HAD A CANCELLATION, and your Interview is FEB 9th!!!
I had 2 weeks to prepare! hehe
Anyway bro,...I hope that helps. After my research, I would expect this:
After US Consulate receives your Checklist and assigns a Casenumber, plan on 3 weeks to Schedule the Interview, another week (at most) to RECEIVE your Letter of Appointment, and another 3 weeks to the expected Interview date. I figured about 7 weeks from Casenumber to Interview Date.
Take care and goodluck!!!
Life is good!!!
Ciao!

Hello all...
I, the US citizen, attended my Fiance's I-129F Visa Interview in Montreal on Feb 9th, Thursday last week.
We arrived at 7.30am and were the FIRST there. Bring a paper file portfolio - no bags or electronics. We waited in the elevator room until 8am when people start working there. Then we went up to the 19th floor and exited out the BACK of the elevator. We went to window #14 (for non-immigrant Fiance Visa's,...the Immigrant Visa recipients wen to a different window) and got our Ticket Number - ours was CR-1. By about 8.20 am we were called to a different window to present our remaining documents - DS-156 & 156K, Police Clearance and Medical Report, and then asked to sit back down to wait for the actual interview. At 9am we were called to the Interview. I (US Citizen) was also asked to come to the window with my fiance and asked how we met, how many times we met face-to-face in Canada, about my profession, our common likes and dislikes and if my fiance planned on working in USA. After that - we were DONE!!!! She said CONGRATULATIONS! Enjoy life in America! Woo-hoo!!!! Our Visa was ready the next day so we picked it up and went back to Toronto and now my Fiance is coming home here to Chicago on Feb 25th!!
I, the US Citizen, WAS NEVER ASKED for my IRS Tax Papers (I had 3 years worth), my Checkstubs, my letter of Employment and Annual Salary details from my boss.....NOR ANY OF THE PROOF of RELATIONSHIP I was amazed! The Consular Officer DID mention that my filing of the I-129F was filed VERY WELL and ACCURATELY and that they appreciated that. So maybe that satisfied all their questions.
We are so happy!
I wish everyone success and love in life!
Ciao!

-US Consulate receives back and processes Packet 2 by last week of December.

in Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussion

Sorry, I meant to say that her Green Card is Conditional (until Dec 2008).
So, does that change anything?
If France requires a Passport, then must I buy the ticket in her MAIDEN name or NEW name. Her Green Card has ner new name and her Passport has her Maiden name...
Thanks
