I think this letter is fine..we did the same thing and offered a mercy letter and they were very understanding..however we did have to have an I751 interview and they asked us again why we filed late and we told them and asked that accept our deepest apologies and it was ok.

Trust your gut, as they say.
If you're having doubts about  marrying him now---do both yourself and him a favour and end the relationship...marrying and divorcing later will only be more messy emotionally/financially.

Acting differently, how?  More excitement about moving to the US rather than being with you?

A quick start to figure out what's going on in his head would be for you to turn around and tell him "y'know, darling, I think I'd rather end the process and move to live in Jamaica with you instead."  If he immediately balks at that and comes up with every reason why that's completely out of the question----usually can be a good sign he may be more inlove with your country than with you.

Immigration gives all of us high blood pressure.  It is, however, not a communicable disease, so you have no worries of it affecting immigration.

    Deep breaths now

If it's possible, I would suggest to your friend that he have you or another friend accompany him on his visit to Nogales, for safety reasons. At 72 years of age it's a good idea to have a travel companion to Mexico especially considering he is meeting a person he met online for the first time.

OP, if he is 72, presumably he is retired.  Instead of meeting for a one-time drink and then filing, why does he not travel to her town and spend some actual time with her?  At his age, he should know that you don't marry someone after spending a few hours in a bar with them!

I understand that they want to show proof of meeting within two years... but it's also important to show proof of a legitimate relationship. A photo that was taken in front of a newspaper doesn't really say that

You generally need much more evidence than just dates and photos. He should have asked you for these. Typically most people here will submit

plane tickets, boarding passes, passport stamps, receipts for hotels, restaurants. Any dated photograph is helpful too - eg if its of you both at a sporting event that occurred on a particular day that is useful, I also submitted a photo of us at an attraction where they print the attractions branding and the date on the picture. The more varied evidence you provide, the better.

You'd be amazed how much better many of us do here than a lawyer will. Many lawyers don't have experience of the process and don't have the time to read and learn, and they don't have the same urgency that we have to make sure its correct first time.

Like others have mentioned previously, have originals and copies of what is required when you attend your interview. Always be yourself and it is completely alright to be nervous because strange people are probing into your personal life. However, they have to probe so as to determine eligibility and bona fide marriage status between you and your spouse.
If they ask you questions where 1+1 = red then you know you will be put under scrutiny. Relax, once all your information is legit and you have been truthful during the entire application process, you and our spouse should be fine.

For many who came in as a K-1 (fiancé), interviews were generally waived for I-485 (AOS) because the non-US citizen has already been interviewed overseas when applying for K-1 visa.  Some of these applicants now however face higher chance of being selected for I-751 interview because the US citizen has not yet been interviewed.

Also bring the originals of anything you sent photocopied with the application, in case IO asks to see the originals.

Thanks everyone, my husband just wasn't ready to do N-400, but we might go ahead and go that route, this process is taking wayyyyyy too long.

I am not sure if you know this but you could start applying for naturalization to become a US citizen.  You will probably get the oath ceremony before you even see your new Green Card.  Its called ROC+naturalization combo.  That is if you are wanting to pursue that route.  My cousin went through this long ROC already.  He applied for ROC in October 2017 and got the new green card in December 2018.

Ugh this just reminds me why im so glad I filed for N-400. We are pretty much in the same boat as you. The only difference is that we did send 3 affidavits. 2 Family and 1 Friend. Im guessing just 2 is sufficient.  As for the additional evidence. Just send them as much as you can.  By the time I completed compiling all my documents for I-751. I was at a point where i had no idea what else i could send. We also have separate bank accounts. I am kind of worried we might get a RFE now.. crazy. I think its funny USCIS wants to lay out a nice guideline on how you should live your life. Good luck!

Congrats on everyone being approved.. No news here on our end.

I did want to let everyone know that we recently returned back to the US from overseas with the 18 month extension letter.. The officer at Atlanta airport was shocked that the 10 yr green card hasn't been approved yet and I have the letter.

In any event, no issue re-entering the US. Waiting patiently like you all for my permanent green card. I hope everyone is doing well
