Hello everyone, here's a question for anyone who has had to get a police clearance from Hong Kong.
I've searched the forum and a few other resources but I can't seem to find the answer. I need to start the process of getting a HK police clearance for my fiance before I can make an appointment. I have the instructions here: http://hongkong.usconsulate.gov/iv_polclear.html
My question is about requirement number 2. See, I obtained the MNL# by calling the NVC and I have not received anything from them in the mail with the MNL# on it and I've read that they don't send anything for K1 visas so where and how do I get a photocopy of the letter from NVC which contains his/her name and the checklist of documents from the NVC?
Thank you kindly
An applicant residing outside Hong Kong must submit the following items. Please note that documents issued in languages other than Chinese or English, must be accompanied by an official transcript, in Chinese or English, endorsed either by the issuing authority or a certified translation services body.
- A photocopy of his/her Hong Kong Identity Card or valid travel document;
- A photocopy (for each applicant) of the letter from NVC which contains his/her name and the checklist of documents necessary for obtaining a visa (the one that references the need for police certificates);
- A photocopy of a document proving his/her relationship with the principal applicant for the visa if item #2 does not contain the applicant's name;
- a full set of the applicant's fingerprints taken and certified by a recognized and official police or law enforcement agency where the applicant currently resides. Certification of the fingerprints must clearly state: (i) the full name and rank of the person taking the prints, (ii) the full name of the police or law enforcement agency with their official chop; and (iii) the date and place the prints were taken. Prints that do not clearly show certification will be refused. Fingerprints taken by the applicant him/herself, a legal representative or private/commercial agency are also unacceptable.
- a bank draft in the amount of HK$205 per person, made payable to "The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region." The draft must be payable in Hong Kong. A personal cheque in Hong Kong dollars, which is issued and authorized by any licensed banks in Hong Kong, is also acceptable.
I really don't know how it works for Hong Kong but in my case (Germany) the package 3 that I got from the embassy had all the info on it that you asked for. So if anything you might have to wait till the embassy gets your file and contacts your fiancé.
Maybe your fiancé can send an email explaining the situation and asking for an email confirming everything for that purpose. But then again I'm not sure how much weight an email would have with Hong Kong police.
Good luck tho!

I am also really interested in this topic for a K1 visa holder.
This is copied from another forum posting:
Cesar: "Once you enter with a K1 visa, you are given a I-94 which is a paper that says when you came into the US. That same paper works by default as a work permit until your visa expires in 90 days. After it expires, you are not allowed to work until you receive your EAD."
Another member" I94 is not a permit to work. Only a few port of entries (i.e. JFK) issues a work permit at your point of entry and ONLY with that permit you are allowed to work!"
I am so confused! Someone help please?
Thanks!
An I-94 does never ever authorize you to work when you came on a k1. You need a ssn and ead.
Also the rumor that JFK still gives out work permits is still floating around but not true. Apparently back in the day they used to put a work permit stamp in your passport but that's not the case anymore. I came through JFK and I'm currently waiting for my ead. No stamp or permit was given.

Hi,
I, a dual US-Taiwan citizen currently living in US, and my wife, a Taiwan citizen currently living in Taiwan, got married in Taiwan last February. We'd like to get together here in the States ASAP. I filed I-130 (8 months ago) but just filed I-129F last week. Called USCIS regarding the review status of I-130 but it would stay in line for another 2 months. It doesn't seems likely for her to obtain either the IR1/CR1 and K3 visa shortly. I'd like to figure out the fastest way to bring her here. Since she has B-2 visa, I wonder if she can enter the States with B-2 visa and then we can do the change of the status from B-2 visa. Please provide me with more information since I'm clueless.
Thanks.
I hope you are aware that the I-129F is a fiancé visa. You will be denied this visa since you mentioned your 'wife' and therefor are already married. You guys don't qualify for a K1.. It should be a CR-1 visa that you're going for.
Still good luck with finding a way

When filing forms I-131, I-765,I-864, I-485, and G-325A how should my new wife's name read as? She has her social security card with her pre-married last name. We can't change her last name to my name at the SS office because we were married with less than 14 days left until her K1 expires, at least that is what they told us.
Either way, what form(s) should her pre-married last name be used and what form(s) should her new last name be used? By pre-married last name I mean her last name as it appears on her I-94 when she entered the US.
I am thinking we will not send in the I-131 until her last name is officially changed to my last name. Traveling out of the country with two last names would be an issue. Correct?
The I-765 application for employment has an entry for her new last name and other names used (maiden name) so I am thinking we can use her new last name and pre-married last name here.
The I-864 affidavit of support, use her pre-married name?
Form G-325A, use her pre-married last name?
Form I-485, use her new, my last name?
Sign each form accordingly to her name used on the form.
Thanks....again.
If your wife wants to take your last name from now on fill out all forms with your last name and put her maiden name where asked for 'other names used' your marriage certificate entitles you to do so and your greencard and combo card will come with her new name on it. File for the advance parole as well since it's a combo card. Fees are waived if filed along AOS. If you wait you will have to pay later.
And once you get the EAD/AP combo card you can go to the SSN office and have her name changed. That's the route to go
Good luck

Thanks Enigma ,
i think this is DOS phone number , i called them days ago to give me my new case number and they did asked me about birth dates , and at the end they gave me the number. But i didn`t even thought to ask them about it was shiped or not as i thought this is NVC who send them . He will try to call now in his lunch break . Thanks a lot for the advice.
And by the way this status Ready what this means ?
Normally the Status you will have first at NVC is 'at NVC' from there it changes to 'in transit' when shipped from NVC to the embassy in the benificiarys Country and once its received changes to 'ready'
so that means the embassy has got your papers.
-
My status now says "in transit". I've read that it will say "ready". What will ready mean. It also says that an interview date was given to me by NVC. I didn't receive any such thing. I wish I did. Loool
The 'interview given' phrase is just a standard text. And I'm not sure but I think ready will mean nothing but that the embassy opened the envelope with your papers in it and acknowledged they got something. Didn't take long from in transit to ready tho. Almost there!

Thank god
it's about time!

Actually the answer sounded very excited for you to me. Not negative in the slightest.
You can get packet 3 when the embassy opens and receives your case. They should email you when that happens. Don't worry, you're almost done!
To me it sounds like I was told I am way too excited
Anyways thank you! It's sure hard sitting here and just waiting for pack 3 when you already have everything ready. Ill practice patience I guess

Hey, try this.. This helped me.. Don't forget to put the day BEFORE it was shipped. That's what helped me find it, cuz they make arrangements with dhl before the day it's actually mailed.

Or
http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/302190-dhl-tracking-from-nvc-to-us-embassy/
But you will have to call NVC to find out when your case left NVC once your status changed to 'in transit'
Hope this helped
-
I think I would email them just to confirm if they got your pack 3 documents. Or did you already do that?
I know of people that did so and got their interview appointment as response. Maybe worth a try. But I wouldn't boldly ask 'hey when's my interview' lol
-
I think you won't get an RFE for the date format. Luckily there's no 25th month of the year so a smart co will catch what you guys meant..
Address change can be easily done online on the uscis website
To the Spanish chats.. I know for Germany all documents and/or proof have to be in English OR the language of the interview country (i remember to have read this on an official document, will do some digging in a second) In my case German. So I really don't believe those have to be translated.

Same here. Our case got to NVC on August 21st and was out of NVC at August 23rd. I see huge differences here.
-
Yes I had my medical and yea I have all documents ready to mail.
I don't think anybody here needs negative input.. And your answer sounds super negative. If you can't answer the question asked then why bother? Thanks
-
So I'm a bit confused.. And impatient
Our case was sent from the NVC to frankfurt on The 23rd. That's when our status changed from 'at NVC' to 'in transit'..
As the crazy stalker I became during this process I kept tracking our papers through the DHL website and the papers have been delivered to the embassy yesterday at 11am.. When can I expect the status to change to 'ready'? When they open it? When they actually sent out pack 3?
As of right now it still says 'in transit'.. I just want pack 3!!! Lol
-
Oh cuz I've been told somebody waited 2-3 weeks.. And I reeeeally think ill go absolutely nuts if I gotta wait 3 weeks now just to get pack 3..
They received the papers today.. Praying for a quick letter in the mail
-
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this.. But I'm asking anyways
Does anybody know how long it takes in frankfurt from arrival at embassy to having pack 3 in the mailbox?
I know nobody can put the finger on a certain time but what's the general time frame???
-
As long as its from 2012 that should be ok
-
Your case is in transit to the Consular Section. Your interview date was provided to you by the National Visa Center. WHAT ???? I thought we got to pick the date of the interview . I mean this is great news , but we still need to get a passport for her baby which was born on July 23rd .
This is a standard text so don't worry
-
Congrats
we got shipped from Texas to NVC on the 16th. They received it on the 21st and got case number yesterday. So 6 days to case number. Good luck!
-
To me this reads as the NVC forwarded your petition to your embassy. It says it's no longer located at NVC as it says and now in Islamabad. Maybe a misunderstanding?
Did you try calling the embassy in your country directly?
-
Did you try calling dos? We called them and got our case number from them. We got sent to NVC August 16th
-
I know! I didn't really expect it this fast. But at this point I gotta admit we been super lucky with everything in this process. We never waited longer for anything than the common timeline suggested. Thank god!
One step closer to being with my fiancé

Just got case number

Your appointment letter doesn't have two case numbers on it? Mine had both case numbers for AOS and EAD on it. There's no biometrics info needed for AP. But you should just have one appointment for both. Check your letter again.
