nobbie got a reaction from TriloByte in Before you permanently move to the US
Maybe someone can advise me here. I am the UK citizen, wife is USC, we currently live I the US but will probably move back to the UK, maybe this year I hope. We have the cash to satisfy the financial side of things plus a fair bit in assets. Do I need to establish residency in the UK first or can we apply for her spousal visa while we're both still officially in the US, if so what do we need to do. Any good web sites around?
Whats the actual process for me surrendering my green card and once I do so how long do I have to leave the US.

We did not debate it as much as we should, mainly because I work away and it makes no difference to me (from UK) where I live. However we should have thought about it more. I've been in the US a bit over 2 years now and don't really like it at all. Housing is very expensive where we are, well above UK prices. Shooting is just the norm, see todays news in Colorado. 12,000 gun related homicides in the US every year vs 12 in the UK
Taxation is outrageous, my first years earning were taxed, after allowances and expenses etc, at a whopping 38%. That's about 22% federal, 6% state and 15.2% social security.
Health insurance is $1100 a month for 2 of us, or around $13,000 a year.
Property taxes are $5000 a year. Mobile phone charges are well over UK prices as is TV/Internet/Phone.
Very hard, if not impossible to find a greengrocers or butcher.
We have had 2 shootings more or less outside our house, one fatal. House is smaller that I had in UK for pretty much the same price, so we're looking at heading back to the UK.
I know the US is huge and there's tons to see, my preference is to have the equally huge Europe on my doorstep with different food, culture and language.
So think long and hard before deciding it's a no brainer, there are big houses to be had, petrol is cheap, (needs to be though as you have to drive everywhere) people are generally nice (especially where they're not armed) but there's a lot to be said for the UK, transport and the NHS in particular..

    1. Galaxy chocolate (Dove is not as good)
    2. Pickled Onion Monster Munch (But there's a great selection of crisps here, but these are my favourite)
    3. Pubs (I've been to a couple of places that try and replicate the vibe of a pub, but it's just not the same. If a bill is dropped on my table and I'm being rushed out then it's not a pub, it's a restaurant)
    4. Public Transport and the frequency of it (4 buses a day pass by here, 2 in the morning and 2 in the evening)
    5. NHS (It has its problems, I know first hand about this, but having an NHS is a great thing)

You are over complicating matters, just delay it until you get the visa.

if you're worried about it then take the notice (I797?) that you should receive from USCIS showing she has applied for AOS. I have been here over a year and the only time I got asked for ID was at a baseball game when I got a beer, (I am 54)

I agree with your statement but I'd go beyond the things you mention. In my personal experience, most of the complaints I hear about our country are caused by completely unrealistic expectations, in terms of jobs, income, standard of living, etc.
I have lived in countries where violence, guns and the medical system are not an issue but in my book they are far worse than America at its worst.
Having said that, America is an acquired taste, and not for all palates at that.

You would follow this guide: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?autocom=custom&page=i130guide2 and could remain in the US until your application was adjudicated.
And surely if you're a "strict Christian" you wouldn't be able to have premarital sex?

Do you read the stuff you type? I am not the one that made the statement. You did. You explain why it is better to marry earlier in the 90 day time frame.
You said, "You are cutting it close though, I always tell people to get married early in the 90 day window. You can have the actual wedding later in the window, just make it legal first."
So, why would you always tell people to get married early on in the 90 day time period?

You are 100% right. It boggles my mind that some people make excuses for not at least seeing the person. If you really love someone, you have to meet them before even thinking about marrying. So many on VJ are deadset against critiquing the relationship choices that people make. I think there are many obvious cases, such as this one, where the OP should be questioned a bit before proceeding.

Shouldnt you be more concerned about meeting this man and making sure he will be good husband and father for your son before being concerned about how to start the immigration process???
And then posts like this turn into "how can I adjust status without getting married?" Or "how can I remove conditions "I married in good faith" but marriage is not working... "

nobbie got a reaction from kehills in Do we need to have a wedding within 90 days or is a legal marriage sufficient?
a courthouse marriage is a wedding, just get married one way or the other within 90 days of arrival.
Most folk on a K1 cant plan it as you never know when you are going to get the visa in hand. We just got here, then a couple of weeks later got married in a park with a small group of her family. That's all you need to then file for AoS. You can have a family thrash later on, we had ours 7 months later.

I dont get why you are even going to a civil surgeon, you only need 1 jab in a series. I had one MMR done in London and TD, it was on the 3025 and I got approved. My view was send it in and if I get an RFE deal with it at that time.
