I received mine two days after passport in the priority mail envelope since I used expedite. Did you file routine or expedite?
Expedite.

My husband got his passport last Friday. He has not received his documents in a separate envelope yet. When do they usually come back?

I want to know how long it took others here to get their docs back after they received passport.

Hubby got passport in the mail last Friday. I know his certificate is supposed to be returned in a separate envelope. The pamphlet that came with the passport said it should come in a couple days. We haven't seen anything in the mail yet. Should we be worried?
-
So we went to a different post office which processed our application fine. We made two copies of the application before we left so we have a copy at home. For emergency contact my husband put my name down. But we realized when we got home it says "person not traveling with you". We dont have any plans to travel right now. Most likely we will always be traveling together but at times he may go on his own. Will this pose a problem that I will be with him on most trips and I'm listed as emergency contact?

So we tried applying for the passport at the Post office. They told him all supporting documents needed to be over 6 months old to be used. That his certificate of naturalization was too new and that his state ID was too new as well (since we just moved).
I thought you could apply for a passport right away as soon as you became a citizen?

Anyone here who updated their social security record to citizen get a letter in the mail that's not the new card?

Hey,
I just got all of my passport stuff back this past week, I did my process at the post office, it was quick and easy.
Needed my naturalization certificate - and a copy
Copy of my drivers license
Photo - they will use what you bring in if it meets the reqs.
completed application in BLACK pen
When at the post office, the department of state will only accept a check or money order, I did personal check
you can see what the fees will be by going through the questionnaire located on the site below:
https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports.html
I thought I heard somewhere that there had to be two seperate checks.

So we are trying to get hubby his US passport since he just became a citizen a month ago. It's been so long since I first got my passport that I am no longer familiar with the process. I know you have to apply in person if it's your first time.
So I'll start with docs first.1. He does need to send the original naturalization certificate and a black and white photocopy correct?
2. Second ID he is supposed to provide a photocopy of the front and back of his state ID??
Please can someone verify if this is correct. We are finding the instructions hard to understand.
As for the fees he wants Expedited Service so he doesn't have to be without his original naturalization certificate for long. Does not need anything overnighted. What are the fees for this? Do they need to be all on one money order/personal check or seperate ones?
Finally he got his passport photo done at Walgreens. Will the passport agency make him retake it or will they take the Walgreens ones?
Thanks in advance.

Oath Ceremony scheduled August 8 @ 1:00 PM.
Where is the best to place to find parking for Saint Paul River Center??
They have their own parking garage across the street. You park in there then walk through the skyway that connects the garage and River center. There will also be signs for the Naturalization ceremony.

Ok. On June 24 he will get his naturalization certificate. He owes nothing more to USCIS including a change of address because on June 24 he is no longer a LPR needing to be tracked.
You legally have that apartment address until June 30. I would totally skip the change of address.
As you know he naturalized on June 24th and has his certificate. USCIS status updated on July 3 saying certificate has been issued if you move please change your address with us. I thought he didn't have to update his address with USCIS anymore?

No, she i told her that i was expecting to get approved , she said it s not always the case to get approved right the way
A lot of the time they have another officer look at the case to give it a final review. Totally normal. Especially if it was a combo interview.

Located in Minneapolis. i know it is taking way too long. Did several inquiry for my pending I-751 and already passed N400 and still get the same answer every time which is "We are working on your case" bla bla. hope you'll get yours soon.
Have you done a info pass yet or just inquiries?

June? I am FEb and still waiting
At this point I would consult a lawyer and get them to issue a Writ of Maddamus. It will force USCIS to make a decision. However it is costly.

I want to see this paper with directions. I haven't gotten one with mine. They issued me a passport without issues. Is he going to apply for his US passport soon? Congrats again! Stop worrying about the signature and go out for dinner and celebrate 🎈
When did you get yours?

I took my Citizenship Certificate down to the local Social Security office the following day after my ceremony (1.5 hour wait grrrr). They were able to find the info on their computer system that day. Like wise for my wife, except we took hers down 2 days after her ceremony. Now, when you apply for your passport, they keep your Citizenship Certificate with the application and send it back around the same time as your passport. I took a color copy and B&W copy before I went to the local passport office (in Rochester MN it was at the Government Center). The lady at the passport office about 2 weeks ago, said they were currently running 6-8 weeks for standard processing. Getting expedited processing was quite a few dollars more. So it may make sense to do the Social Security first. I also got a passport card. $30 more, good for 10 years and another form of Government ID with picture. I use it now for plane travel, as I don't have an enhanced MN driver's License.
Cheers
Which social security office did you have to go to? So it's not updating the record but more like confirming?
-
Does it matter if we update social security record or get passport first? We kind of want to get my husbands US passport first in case an emergency would come up where we would need to fly to the UK.
-
So hubby became a citizen yesterday. We are supposed to go to the social security office and update his record now. We haven't updated anything on his card since actually obtaining it when he came on a Fiancé visa that has the restriction notation on.
I then read in another thread Social Security requires you to update each time your status changes. I never knew that. We only know to do this because they told us at the ceremony and it's listed as one of the things to do in the packet he got at his ceremony.
Will anything happen since we have never updated his record until now?

I had my ceremony last Thursday and they said to check with Social Security in about 2 weeks to confirm that the status has been updated. I don't have to do anything.
A sheet that comes in the packet you get at your ceremony says you must update your social security record after 10 days. The woman who spoke at the podium said that as well.
-
Hubby had his ceremony today at the River Centre. 525 people were naturalized! It was a big group. Now just to figure out which social security office we have to go to to update his social security record. They did say you need to wait 10 days or so. I hope we don't need to go to the one downtown that we had to go to when he got his first SS card.
-
When I have time I'll take a picture of it and post it here. He's going to update his social security record after 10 days like they instructed and then apply for his US passport because he will need to send the original certificate with it.

I never got a paper with mine directing me how to sign it---was just told "sign it"...the signature on the certificate is not going to cause him any problems. If the only thing he's going to use that certificate for, anyhow, is getting a US passport----the signature is not going to affect that.
If his signature on the certificate is his "normal everyday signature" that he's been using with USCIS all the while---then there's really no issues.
Well it will be his normal signature with his first and middle name written before it. Looks weird but it's legible.

I don't know if you've filed for N400 yet or not but if you haven't I think your best bet would be to hold off on filing for citizenship until cannabis is recreationally legal federally; it will happen eventually. That way you won't have to worry about problems with N400. Also Kratom which is legal federally but is illegal in some states helps with pain. Just something to think about. I know someone with Fibromylagia and it helps her phenomenonally.
