Yes you are correct.  I guess I didn't explain myself.  What I meant was when asked if you used any illegal drugs you must answer YES.  Then when you are asked at your medical  if you were to say "I stopped 6 months ago" and they do the drug screen and it turns out you smoked less than 2 weeks ago (and trust me, they have tests that can prove you smoked more recently than 6 months ago)...you will have lied and the result of that lie will be far more serious than the admitted marijuana usage.  I do agree...don't offer up additional information.  Answer the questions, and answer HONESTLY.

    Wvail - Hello and welcome.

First, let me say that almost every thread I've seen on this topic has gotten somewhat nasty, so I'll try to refrain and keep it objective.

Next, this issue has come up a lot on VJ. I would encourage you to search through the site. I'm not being rude, but you'll get a better perspective as people have dealt with this issue through many different embassies throughout the world. This will give you a cross-section of how this has been handled from the various embassies.

    Heres one thread:

My understanding is this...while some embassies may handle this issue differently, the general theme is for them to ask you about drug usage during the medical exam. THEN, if you say yes, they will ask when and issue a drug exam. The existence of drugs or admittance to use in the past year will prevent your approval...many refer to it as a one year ban...meaning you can reapply after one year.

If anyone has any EXPERIENCE to the contrary, please let Wvail and all of us know. Thanks!

If you don't have furniture and can put everything in boxes you can use shipsmart. I moved a pallet of stuff about 4 1/2 ft high from BC to LA for about $800.

In response to shayden10: on the other hand, before I started K1 or even knew it or this forum existed, I visited my USC boyfriend for 4 months. I had no job, no lease (no home!), no car payments, no ties to Canada and was not aware that any of those things might be problem. I told them at the border I was visiting my boyfriend for 4 months. They asked how I could stay so long. I said I didn't have a job. They asked if I was getting married on the trip. I said I wasn't. They waved me through, no problem. All you can do is try. Don't stress too much about it. Either they let you in or they don't. Fly from an airport where you go through customs in Canada before leaving. That way if you're denied, you don't have to fly all the way back.

You are in the U.S. Just stay and adjust status. Never mind the spousal visa. You did not have intent to marry and stay when you came in. It's all good.

If someone else "could" be paid to do it, it's not legal for you to do it for free.

Thanks all for the responses so far! We talked about the decision to enter and another fear was we've heard it's horrible if you fly in and get denied at a POE. However if she enters on land, she just turns around and leaves, right? Seems like that would make a denial much simpler and cheaper if it DOES happen.

How much stuff do you have, and is there furniture involved? I shipped 2 bunches of stuff from 2 different locations--one from BC, and one from Ontario. The load from BC was just boxes and ended up being 1 pallet, (so a pile of boxes about 4' x4' x 5' high). I used Shipsmart and was pretty happy with it. They only do boxes, though, no furniture. For my bigger load from  Ontario, I used UPack. This load had some furniture, but unfortunately I wasn't able to fill up even their minimum space, so that ended up being pretty expensive. For Upack, they come and park a truck at your place. You load it up yourself, and then they come and drive it to your destination where you unload it yourself. With either company, you, yourself, have to cross the border either before or with your belongings. Shipsmart came and got my stuff a few days before I crossed, and then just held on to it until I sent them the paperwork showing that I'd activated my visa. The stuff arrived within a week. Hope that helps!

I have seen some farcical expedite requests, and has been said no harm probably in trying, but this one may have taken the cake.

Don't you think frivolous expedite request like this bog down the process for others who really need it?

I mean i'm all for being proactive but requesting this because you will lose money on plane tickets seems a little unnecessary. The cost for immigration is laid out on here and the official government websites and anyone can budget for it.

We have seen people here with pregnancies and medical emergencies get denied for an expedite.

What I don't understand is why is it so frustrating. It's just waiting. You dont need to do anything and you still have status here. You can still work and travel and do everything that you need to do in the meantime. We make it so much harder by checking statuses over and over and driving ourselves crazy.I started out like that and realized it was a complete waste of energy. Things will happen when they happen. Waiting is waiting. Save your frustration for when/if things go wrong. Like if you get denied... then you will really have something to stress about. Try and relax.

    Hey guys...
I don't know why everyone harps on questions like this. Do you all expect that random foreigners (no offense OP) or even US Citizens know how US immigration works? Because they don't. People are not necessarily criminal masterminds with grand plans to defraud the Government. More often they are confused people looking for help on how to be with their loved ones.
