NVC doesn't email you saying you can send packages...
Yay for progress! And wow, 5 months?! Enjoy your time together And yeah 9 months of my first year of marriage was spent apart. Definitely not the way I had imagined it either...
Thanks!! Yeah, 5 months without seeing him, and before that it was 24 hours together while on honeymoon, it's felt really weird not being with him for all this time! When I miss him I just pretend he is at a friends house or at the pub we are meeting in Faro, Portugal, because we don't want to risk either of us being turned away at the others border because if "overstay" risks! good excuse for a lovely holiday 9 months must have been so hard, thanks for helping us all out! thanks!!

JennyWhiteley, I wanted to apologize if my concurring with Saylin contributed to your feeling singled out. When I read her post,I thought she was referring to the multitude of posts across the VJ site lately where the OP's are stressing out from not having an NOA2 after 2 or 3 months. I've been on the site for years (yes, I've made waiting comments myself, guilty as charged), however, years ago, everything took longer (still does for some countries). We are all stuck in this government hole, and waiting is the name of the game for all of us.
Anyway, good luck!
Thanks very much I do realise that the posts were not personally targeted at me obviously, but as they were in response to, and quoted my direct message it did feel as though I was being singled out for making one upset comment and then getting all of the anger about all of the posts back at me. I really appreciate your comment though, thank you very much I'm usually much more laid back than this but I'm obviously just as stressed as everyone else and so I took everything a little personally
Thanks again!
Just to update everyone, I paid my AOS bill on Thursday and it was taken out our account in Saturday morning so we sent off the completed AOS packet on Saturday, yay!! now we just need to send of the IV packet, but I do have a lovely treat in 4 days, I get to see my husband after 5 months away!! It's ridiculous to think I've not seen him for longer than the couple of months we had together after we got married! Not how I imagined my first year if marriage, but I did sign up for the hard times as well as the good good luck for the week ahead everyone!!

Actually people DO work at the NVC on the weekend, the call center however is NOT open. The place you call and the person that answers your email, is likely not the person who has ever touched your case. Just the call center is able to see the information posted about your case.
It is best to call them vs email them. An email takes 2 weeks. I understand it's expensive. But it is what it is.
Not only that but they had a NEW I-864 form thrust upon them by the USCIS. NVC is part of the Department of State. USCIS is part of the Department of Homeland Security. They are not even the same part of the government. Do not expect them to work like a company. It is the government. I don't program, but I know people that do. It takes months - years for get a new program to work and often months to just modify a program. Ever seen updates for facebook, or a game etc? People who are paid a lot of money are constantly writing and updating those programs. This section of the government likely doesn't have a pile of programmers working constantly to update this kind of program, because they seem to have enough trouble trying to keep up with billing people! So it took them a while to modify their programs to input the values correctly into their computer systems so they can do their job. It sucks. I know!
You may be new to this process. But had you read through the entire thread and last month's thread you might have found the answers you were looking for. The search engine here is pretty good! Had you read back then also perhaps you would understand a little of Saylin's frustration. This thread type wasn't started by her but by others who have since given over the reins to younger members as they became frustrated and wanted a break. It is not easy to run a thread of this sort.
Everyone is entitled to rant. You are. She is. I am. Everyone. Saylin is honestly a saint to do this thread every month. Even saints have limits.
I was prepared for this process to be at LEAST a year. Minimum. I was happy it took 8 months. But if a place tells you they need 20 business days to complete something, it would be nice for people to give them the time they need to work and be happy when it takes less. Karma is can be good or bad. I prefer it when it likes me! LOL! Patience is a virtue that is sorely needed.
I did look through this thread, and last months thread actually, I receive email updates of every post, which is why I caught yours so quickly! And yes, I did use the search function, perhaps if you had read my posts you would know that the questions I asked about the I-864 form had nothing to do with the processing but instead with the instructions, where they asked for the petitioners income figure to be moved from number 5 to number 6.c. which clearly had just been copied and pasted from the previous I-864 instructions, and did not correspond to the new form. I have phoned the NVC multiple times on Saylins advice to try to figure out the solution to the issue, but I ALSO emailed them so that I could have written confirmation of the error incase I, or anyone else on here for that matter, got an RFE because of the mistake in the form. They responded to each email, but their responses make it clear that they did not read the question in my emails but instead tried to fob me off by giving me the link to the instructions I have already read. So yes, I did do my research extensively before asking questions, I always do.
I agree that everyone is very much entitled to a rant, but I did not appreciate feeling singled out to be criticised and told to have patience when clearly those having a rant are allowed to not have patience with me, but instead take out their frustrations with an entire thread onto one person. I'm not saying that I wasn't patient, because I did post a frustrated message, but clearly the frustrated message I received in return also lacked patience. I don't mind anyone losing patience on this thread if it is aimed at the NVC or the USCIS because everyone needs a rant every now and then against the political body's that hold so much of our lives in their hands, we can all have saintly patience at every moment in the day
Good luck to all, and again thanks to Saylin for keeping these posts going and for helping everyone out so much. I think we all agree that we would be very much lost without you!

You do realise they're open from 7am to midnight every week day, right? That's pretty long hours already as most companies are around 8 to 5. Considering that, add those extra hours and they're working more than just a weekend's shift each week.
Everyone (not just you) here has to realise they're working as hard as they can and as fast as they can. And you just need some patience. NVC receives THOUSANDS of emails and packages every single day and it takes some time to get through these things.
And even if it's taking long, you and everyone else here has to realise you're giving an opportunity to move to the US. Yes, this process may be faster when immigrating to other countries, but the US is HUGE. And as of late, they take terrorism very seriously, thus have to do multiple background checks. Instead of whining, people should be grateful they're being given a chance at all to move to the US.
Sorry, but I've just gotten sick and tired of all the posts here lately that have been complaining about this process and are so incredibly impatient. I understand a lot of you have not seen your loved ones in awhile. Trust me, I understand. But complaining does absolutely nothing. And remember, YOU chose to go through with this. You chose to immigrate to someone else's country and these things take time.
/end of rant
I'm sorry if I pissed you off, that really wasn't my intention at all! You and others on this board have been so incredibly helpful to me and I cannot thank you enough.
To clear something up, I didnt actually chose to move to the US, the UK immigration laws changed without notice whilst my husband and I were on honeymoon, meaning he could not return to the UK at all. I havent seen him since I know others chose this path, and I do love the states so I'm happy to be moving there, but I was not mentally prepared for this struggle. I do think its unfair to tell others not to be frustrated when this forum is the only place I feel anyone really gets me and how difficult this is, and I haven't been frustrated until my previous post.
Yes the NVC does stay open from 7-12 but that's 17 hours, meaning two 8.5 hour shifts, I'm sure no one is working 17 hours every day, 5 days a week. My only point was that if they already have people on odd shift patterns, it wouldn't hurt to have it open an extra two days and have people on rotation to still get the same hours but be more flexible, as are a lot of other businesses.
Please remember that people complaining is just a way for them to try to talk to others in the same situation, and not feel so very alone. I don't know about you but I don't have any personal friends at all who have gone through this before, all of you are the only people who I "know" who have gone through or are going through this. I actually feel much more buoyed up to see everyone's comments, weather negative or not, as it helps me realise that I am not alone.
How do you know they are working as hard and as fast as they can? I have now sent 3 emails in the last two weeks concerning the messed up instructions for the I-864 form, and each and every response I have gotten makes it clear to me that they have not read the email at all, but instead have just copied and pasted the link to the I-864 instructions back to me. Not very helpful at all.
I did not mean to make anyone angry or pissed off, and I find it very upsetting that offence was taken so personally to my post when others have also been upset and frustrated about their situation and not been singled out in this way. You may all be seasoned to this process, but remember some of us are new to this and very scared, and very sad.
Again, thank you very much Saylin, and everyone else, for your continued help and support

Weird. Like Darnell said, you got a "tardo" who replied. I'd suggest filling out the form in your case, attaching it to an email, then sending it with the subject line shown in the FAQ for a faster response. You should hear something on Monday about it.
No need to change anything as you're an anomaly. The email template typically works for folks. Just do as I suggested above and you'll be fine. No need to be angry as this just adds one extra day to your process.
And everything is closed on weekends, call center and NVC.
).
I'm much calmer now, I did scan and email it again with supervisor review. I'm just so angry because I got the first response to the DS3032 on Wednesday saying that they were not ready to accept it, but below that in the exact same email said they were now ready to accept it, so why didn't they just accept it at the time!!! Then now I get this asshat tardo who wants the scanned document and now it won't be reviewed till Monday(hopefully) so it's actually added almost an extra week onto the process by them just being dumb! Everyone here has been super helpful and I would have exploded with frustration if it wasn't for all of you! I would just advise that to be safe people attach the DS3032 hard copy to the email anyway, incase you get the same asshat and he delays your case too
Thanks Saylin!
Aso is anyone else with me that the NVC should be open weekends?! Come on, they can have people working shifts over that time and get our cases out if there quicker, especially with the whole new I-864 debacle and the delays they now have =\ lots of1 company's are open weekends. I'm so tired of all of this! Sigh!
-
sounds like you got a tardo reviewing that email, they asked for a full form.
Sorry.
Greeeeaaaattt!!! What is wrong with these people?!? And perhaps Saylin you should change the instructions for June to just tell everyone to send a scanned copy of the Ds3032 in the email also. I'm so angry!! I got my previous email revied Wednesday night, and the idiot said in the email that they rejected the DS3032 because they were not ready, then in the next paragraph said that they were ready for it!! #######!!!
Also. The NVC is closed now right, till Monday? No one will be looking at the emails? Or is it just the call centre who are closed?
Thanks!

Hi, please can someone help me!
I send the DS30320 form, following the template exactly that was given on Visajourney and this is the response I got below.
What the hell?!?!? Is it an acceptance, or rejectance email? Do these people not read the email I sent?!? I literally followed it exactly! I'm so confused!!! And now I can't call them till Monday!!!

For question 33, it's high school and up. But I believe there have been members here who start with college/university, leaving out any high schools, and don't have any problems.
Ok fantastic!! The example form on visa journey actually only has university, which is what loads of people on here would have done and they haven't changed it so obviously no one is having issues.
That's what we will do, I'll just leave the high school out! Thank goodness for visa journey, thank you!!
-
Foreign State Chargeability is just the country where one is born. It doesn't mean anything for your IR-1/CR-1 application. This is only important in visa types where there's a limited number of visas per year per country. If you were filing for one of those visas, I believe then that they would look to how many visas are allowed in SA instead of the UK, but not sure on that. Either way though, you don't have to worry about it as there's an unlimited number of IR-1/CR-1 visas per year.
As for the PCC, I'm not sure. I don't think you'll need it. You only need to obtain PCCs from different countries if it was for more than 12 months. And if you used your UK address for everything while in school in SA, then it won't even show on the DS-230 (under residences), which is where NVC determines what PCCs you need (as far as I know). So, I don't think you'll need a PCC. The only true way to find out though is to send the IV package and hope they accept it with no checklists for a PCC from SA.
Thanks Saylin! Yes I used all UK addresses during that time, I've lived here since I was 14 in any case. I'm just wondering about question 33 of the Ds-230 "list below all educational institutions attended"
Do they just mean university? If so I can leave out my high school there all together and not have that come up as a question? It makes me thing they want university's or colleges because they ask for "degree or diploma" at the end?
Thanks!!

No my parents moved to the UK before I turned 16, and I continued my education at boarding school in South Africa for the next year and a half. I wasn't however "living" in the country as my home was in the UK, and I have yet to get the exact dates from the school but I think (hopefully) I'm just under the 12 months in total over that time.Where did you go to boarding school? In the UK?
From what I understand, they want the police cert from any country you lived in for more than 6 months after age 16 so if it's UK, then you should get it from there as well, i guess. I had to get one from Australia since I studied there for a few years and Malaysia since I live there too.
I could be wrong. Anyone can confirm this?
I'm wondering how the embassy/NVC knows you have been somewhere else? I have bank statement proving I was living in the UK during that time, so hopefully I won't even need to mention it? I don't think it's on any of the I-130 or DS230 forms, as I've used my UK addresses for that time period?
As I was at school for just 3 months at a time at most and then came back to the UK, would that actually be counted as living in SA? I'm not sure I can get a police certificate from SA, at least not in a timely manner!
Although I am confused as I thought it was 12 months as I submitted under UK nationality, but I do have SA nationality!
Below are the guidelines from this website - http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3195.html
An applicant must obtain a police certificate from the local police authority:
"If you lived in a different part of your country of nationality for more than 6 months and you were 16 years or older at that time"
"If you lived in a different country for more than 12 months you were 16 years or older at that time"
-
Also hoping you can help, in the previous email I talked about this was in the body:
Case Number: XXXXXX
Petitioner's Name: XXXXXXX
Principal Applicant's Name: XXXXXXX
Preference Category: XXXXXXX
Your Priority Date: 06Feb2013
Foreign State Chargeability: SOUTH AFRICA
U.S. EMBASSY
24 GROSVENOR SQUARE
LONDON, W1A 1AE
UNITED KINGDOM
What is foreign state chargeability?!?!? I was born in South Africa but I applied as a UK citizen! What does this mean for my application?
I was living in the UK from my 16th birthday but I did go to boarding school for around 12 months in total over the next year and a half, do you think I need a police certificate 8-O I'm absolutely screwed if I do, they take about 6 months!!! I have a UK police certificate though!
-
Aww, thank you!
Why'd they change it?
It was rejected due to them not being ready. But it seems like they're ready now, so send another DS-3032 email asap. Use the tip in the FAQ to get a fast approval (since you've waited already for the DS-3032 to be received).
Congrats!
Thanks it does not make any sense to me why they rejected the DS3032, but in the very same email say that they are ready for it, sooo confusing!! I sent it again with supervisor review, hopefully it will get accepted in a few hours! Thank you

Hi all.
I have just recently had our petition move from the NVC to the London consular. I have noticed that they have put me down as a South African(my country of birth, as well as nationality) as my Foreign State Chargeability. When We applied I put down my nationality as British(I'm a citizen through my mother.) as I am living here at the moment, and presumed it would be best and make things less complex. On the forms from packet 3 it does ask about dual nationality as well as any countries ever issuing you a passport. So nothing is hidden, and I am a legal and entitled national of both countries. What I want to know, is this going to be a problem when I get down to the interview? A little confuzzled, and a little anxious....Man this process is taxing on the soul! Any words of wisdom or reassurance would be gladly received!
Many thanks.
Jon.
PS. our lawyer seemed to think it's fine, but then again? style_emoticons/#EMO_DIR#/wacko.gif
Hi,
I have exactly the same thing! Can you tell me what happened in your case? Many thanks!!
-
Hi guys, please could you help. I just received this email
Dear Sir/Madam:
The National Visa Center (NVC) received your inquiry regarding the immigrant visa petition: XXXX filed by XXX on behalf of XXXX.
You cannot chose and agent as the choice of agent letter has not yet been generated.
This petition is now eligible for further processing. The petitioner, principal applicant, and/or attorney of record will receive an instruction package regarding further processing of this petition.
So has it been rejected or accepted, because all I can find on here is that the second line means its accepted but the first line makes me think its been rejected?
Thanks!!!
-
Could be any second now Definitely keep an eye on the payment portal!
I'm waiting for my AOS bill to be invoiced, and it's been saying the "your case is in termination" thing all day?! How long does it usually take for the bill to be invoiced so I can log in? Hours, days? I can't find that information anywhere
Thanks!!!
-
YAY THEY ARE BUSY INVOICING US!!!! Does anyone know how long it takes for them to invoice you? We have gotten the "your case is in the process of termination" stuff on the invoice log in HURRAY!!!
Also how quickly can we send the AOS packet off? Can we do it straight away as soon as we have paid for the thing, and can print the barcode? Or do we have to wait till the money has left our account? Or do we have to wait till it shows PAID?
THANKS!!!

I really thing this is a mistake in the instructions, because in the instructions for the old form, which I have saved, for this part of the form it says to "Take your annual individual income from line 23 and enter it on line 24a. If this amount..."
So, I think they totally just did copy/paste and tried to replace number, and then didn't do it correctly. If you look further in these new instructions, at the top of page 6, they say
"To determine the filing requirements for your relatives included in Part 6 Item Number 7.-10. follow these instructions"
This clearly should have been items 6-9, because item 10 is the sum.
No wonder they delayed processing these because of lack of instructions from USCIS if they were making these kind of mistakes.
I am putting my income on question 5, and since I am not using any other person's income, I have that same amount on question 10. Questions 6-9 I have empty. But, I am yet to send this form.
That is really helpful thank you! You have put my mind at ease about it, it really does seem like they have just copied and pasted the info! What do these people do all day, pick their nose?! It would be common send to read through the new instructions to see of they make sense, but clearly no one did that! The husband is phoning the NVC later and will ask, I've also sent an email asking too, so we have written evidence should something go wrong
Also, whoever does the timelines for Visajourney needs to add an extra step! There is an NVC received step, but no NVC case number issued step, and we all know there is a time lag between the two. I'm unsure as to put the 10 June (the date they received the file) or 21 June (the date I received a case number)
-
Looking at the instructions, it doesn't seem to make much sense to me... Without taking the instructions in mind, for me, 5 would be the petitioner's income, and then 6-9 would be for other people in the household contributing income. That would make sense to me. What the instructions are suggesting doesn't.
I would suggest you call up NVC and ask about this one. Make sure you call a MINIMUM of five times, then take the majority answer. Report what they say here cause I'd like to know what they say on this one as the instructions have baffled me.
Edit: It would make sense if on number 10 you didn't add up 5 as well, but it says to do so, so still doesn't make sense.
Yeah your final point is what has baffled me the most because it asks you to add up 5 AND 6.c. Etc which is just insane 8-O
The instructions may have made sense if number 10 didn't ask for both of those values to be added up =\
I'll get the hubby to ring tonight and ask, this is a straight to supervisor question! Will let you know what they report!
-
The question is, is his father lives in the same roof (a household member)? If yes, put your FILs information on part 6. If not a household member, FIL should fill out another I-864. And don't include FILs income in your hubby's I-864 (only if not a household member).
Yes my FIL is living in the same household, so his information should go int number 6, as he is filling out an I-864a. The information in the instructions for the I-864 say that the value in number 5 (for us $0) should be put into number 6.c., which doesn't make sense at all.
-
Hoping someone can help me. We are filling out the new I-864 form and are a little confused about the instructions. In the instructions attached, it states that you should put your income from item number 5 and put it into item number 6.c.
Why?! It's already in item number 5, and then in item 10 it asks you to total up 5, 6.c. Etc. but then you would be be totalling it twice?
My husband has just left one job and we are using his father as a joint sponsor, which is why in the image we have $90,000 in the total for item number 10. But what I am wondering is where to put his father, in number 6 or number 7?
And if we follow the I-864 instructions and put his income (0$) from 5 into 6.c, then do we put his name into 6.a and put SELF Into 6.b?
What did you do?
Also, anyone been reviewed recently?
Thanks for your help!!

Does anyone know what the latest dates being reviewed are for the new I-864, first time sending? I'm just wondering how much they have caught up!! Thanks
Also, super happy because my Ds3032 was finally accepted this morning, YAY!!
Hopefully invoiced soon! It seems the IV invoicing(based on scouting people's signatures) happens about 1 day after they accept the DS3032? Is this what has happened to most others? The hubs had yet to give me the AOS tracking number but hopefully it got there this morning
