Yes, an expired passport can be used to prove US citizenship. With that said and because you are going through a difficult consulate (Casablanca), I'd try to include either a current unexpired passport page or other proof like the certificate of naturalization. It's very possible that you will have no problems using the expired passport (as it should fit the requirement per USCIS), but they really look closely at every detail in Casablanca and you wouldn't want this minor detail to hurt your chances of approval.

As i stated my comments would be blunt

many of us going thru Casa know K1 is rarely really rarely granted
many do no join VJ but there are thousands (now ) from morocco seeking a K1 visa and look please at the stats of the approved
17 in an years time is poor
i was not really judging but your income and a K1 are a poor case
i gave a lot of good advice like "go and marry"
and i just helped 2 moroccans from here get visas after over a year in AP

If you have an appointment to obtain the notary, just print your appointment paper and show it along with your US passport to the security guy, he will let you (only) inside. When you are inside, you have to go through security just like an airport security. When you pass through that, it's just like going to the DMV doing a window transaction like renewing your drivers license. Pay the money and you will get your Affadavit of Nationality and Eligibility to Marry stamped paper. Make sure (if you were married before) you have official divorce papers to show in case.

Hope it's simplifies and lessens the unknown. Good luck and best wishes.

Unless you are not a paper pencil person and not so organized with paper work. Also if you are not discipline to be a self-starter; then you should pay someone else to do all that for you.

I am forever grateful for this website because everyone here on the website is on the same journey as you are. So thank you Visa Journey for providing such a invaluable resource!

I got married in Morocco too and my maiden name is on the marriage certificate too. It wasn't until I was back in the states to changed to my married name. You have to go to the Social Security place to apply for a name change. Then you will take your new social security card that shows the name change and then you can change all of your other paperwork. For example, your driver license, etc.

    Good luck!

Ismael&Blair reacted to Love_A_Brit in They want to see if you're filing your taxes!!
You are legally required to file income taxes every year, subject to certain exceptions which you probably don't qualify for if you're an attorney.  If you owe the IRS, you pay them.  If they owe you, you receive a refund.  April 15th is the filing deadline, and if you intend to file after that date you must file an extension.  You don't file an extension because you owe the IRS money.  You file one because you've missed the filing deadline, which coincidentally is the same every single year.

Also, I wouldn't brag about not filing tax returns.  The statute of limitations is typically only three years, but the IRS can look back further if you intentionally misrepresented your income (by failure to file or other means).

Seems to me that you just like to challenge the rules, whether it's tax rules or immigration rules.  Do us all a favor and just give them what they ask for so that they can move on to another case.  We're waiting.

Ismael&Blair got a reaction from OfficiallyMrsU in Visa approved but Administrative Processing?
I was told that if they specifically informed you at the interview that you were approved, it will be ok. Just be patient. Don't worry about the website showing "administrative processing". Technically, they are " administratively processing" your visa. It takes time for them to print out all the paperwork to put in the envelope and also to add the visa onto your passport.
My husband got interviewed last week (Wednesday) and he was approved. At his (Morocco) consulate, they specifically told him to go back the following Tuesday to pick up his visa. (And he did! YAY!) But that very evening after his interview. I logged on to check the CEAC website, and the status had changed it to "administrative processing" and I freaked out. I guess from reading so much on this Visa Journey website, people has twisted the term AP into a negative thing. I was thinking...what the heck happened because my hubby was approved?
I confided with an experienced Visa Journey person and she reassured me that if at the interview, he was told he was approved, then don't worry about it. The computer system may be slow in updating. So sure enough, I checked the website the next night, the status was already updated to "issued".
In my opinion, I think the term "administrative processing" has gotten a bad rep from the years. I think it's just a term they use after the interview because it's like the last step to process the case file's paperwork. For other people who has been waiting for months and months, there has to be something more to their case. (ie background checks, missing important documents, inadequate financial support, or one of the 221g reasons)
I don't believe at the interview, they would tell the person they were approved and then they are put in "AP" for months and months with no explanation. There has to be something they need to remedy. But again in the MENA countries, it has been a common thing due to further background checks. But who knows...my husband is from a MENA country and we have a big age difference too. And we were approved. So I truly believe it all depends on each individual case and there is not a black and white answer on how everything is done. .
So my guess is that there are SO MANY petitions/approvals from the Philippines, it's just a backup on their workload. And we know how tough the Casablanca one is. So it took 5 days to get his. Overall, we already know there's no rhyme or reason to the US government...we already survive the visa process from the USCIS stage to the NVC stage and then to the Interview.
So be patient a little longer, you are almost there (final stretch). Good luck and best wishes! Let us know when you have it in your hot little hands!

My hubby's Moroccan address has a RUE number too. I think you are stressing & making it more difficult than it is. The 8 is the house number. The rue 49 Qu Bled...can be on the street name line. Put ##### city on the city and leave the state blank. The country would be Maroc. For example, my hubby's city is Kenitra so that was on the city line.
As for the street address, write it how it is to mail letter to her in Morocco. The immigration needs the address for correspondence. For example, we live in Los Angeles, it's obviously in Spanish and I'm not going to write "the Angels" even though in English, it's translated to that. If the street is in French write it out as it is.
Lastly, I had the PDF file of the petition form & I was able to type it online & printed it out and I sent the petition to my Moroccan hubby via express mail to have him handwrite his Arabic name because I didn't know how to write in Arabic & also he had to sign the petition and other paperwork too in ink. You can also just print the petition form & fill it all out by hand. Either way is ok but make sure it's signed origin ion copy you send in & not a copy. You keep the copies. I've read where people got a RFE for submitting a faxed copy of the petition & other needed forms. So read the instructions carefully & triple check what is asked for. Then you'll be fine. Visa journey is a great resource!

AJ - don't be discouraged about utilizing the site. I understand where everyone is coming from, including yourself. I appreciate that you gave us further information about your beliefs and intentions in Islam. I've been considering converting for a number of years, since before I met my husband. I have to say that your original comment came across as conversion was just a means to accomplish marriage and legal rights, and not for the intention of practicing. That would be an issue at the Consulate..... Best of luck on your spiritual journey!
On the question about how you met.... There have been a number of posts over the last year about the petitioners having to provide a document from the dating site that they are not a "marriage broker" ... I think there's discussion in the IMBRA forum. So please do an advanced search on here to get more information about that, as providing that up-front will save you some time if it isn't there and you get issued an RFE.
Please feel free to PM if you have other questions. Ismael&Blair is a good source for information, as well. Best of luck on your VisaJourney!

Ismael&Blair got a reaction from Happytobe in Starting K1 Visa for Moroccan Fiance
I am not judging AJ and her fiance. They may be getting two issues mixed up. I am married to a Muslim husband and I didn't convert to Muslim and my husband is still recognized as a married person because the marriage license (whether married in Morocco or US) are reciprocally recognized in both countries.
I think her question was pointed more for how to get around the rule in Morocco. The strict rule is that if you are not married, you will need to "lay low" locally and stay around the family and friends. It is not accepted to travel as an unmarried couple because it's against the law for a "single guy" and "unmarried girl" to be together as a couple in public.
From her questioning, I believe that AJ and her fiance wanted to be recognized as a "married" couple in Morocco (prior to being married) so they could be able to travel around the country without scrutiny. Morocco being a Muslim country has a custom is that once you find the right person, you get married because you can't date around (it's sinful).
Maybe her fiance wants her to convert prior to being married in the US. I've heard & read there's a Muslim ceremony called a "Nikka". It's a religious ceremony to show that they are committed as a Muslim couple. They would get some kind of paper to be recognized being religiously "married" without being legally married in Morocco. Maybe that is a way to get around it?
Bottom line...In Morocco, it is unlawful to allow unmarried couple to be cohabitating together (ie. sharing a hotel room, living together). There are checkpoints with border town police officers who could & will stop you in cars to ask for identification and question the nature of one's relationship especially traveling when the sun is down. (I am speaking all this from experience when I was in Morocco especially me being Asian American) so I stood out when we traveled up and down Morocco for vacation. We drove to many of our destinations in his car. Certain areas in Morocco are really "old-school" and traditional and every hotel even the major hotels (ie. Sofitel Hotel) will ask for legal documentation to prove that we are married or we wouldn't have been able to rent a room.
I'm sadden that AJ and her fiance got a bad impression of Visa Journey. I only hope they will look past people's candid comments. I find this site a super valuable resource. I just told a newer Visa Journey member to read EVERYTHING HERE on VISA JOURNEY and then ask questions. I learned a lot from here and I took everything with a grain of salt and know that ultimately it's between you and your husband/fiance. We are all just trying to help & only they will learn from their journey. When they make it to the interview part, they may or may not realize that the comments and questions here are only half as tough as the real questions and comments they will encounter at the US Consulate.
I thank Visa Journey for where both my Moroccan husband and I are at. We are now just waiting for the super slow ROC process to end and for him to get his 10 year greencard. Any day now! Crossing my fingers! Well these are my 2 cents for the day! Thanks for reading! Good luck everyone!

Call them to check for sure because we sent our petition toward the end of June and got our NOA1 on June 25 and we had an appointment date for July 21st. But of course we NEVER GOT THE NOTICE because it turned out it was sent to the wrong address (to my next door neighbor) and my irresponsible neighbor didn't go through her stack of mail for apparently two weeks! She finally came over to my doorstep on Friday July 24 with the letter. So we missed our biometric appointment!

Why are you being so evasive with your answers? School age could be anywhere from 4 years old through 18.
People are trying to give you honest answers and you are being defensive. Being a conservative Christian not looking for handouts has zero to do with the fact that you took a child that is not yours here to live. In fact if the child gets ill or needs medical care(God Forbid)who do you think will pay for her medical care? Answer:US tax payers, that is a handout. If you decide to keep her here illegally after her B2 expires and enroll her in public schools, once again US tax payers are the ones who pay.
I am going to be honest in saying you are naive. This family is taking advantage of you and all you can do is comment on the motherly "bond" you have with a child you can't even communicate with, other than smiling. I find it very hard to believe you knew nothing about this plan prior to 5 minutes before boarding your flight. How did she get a B2? How can a young child get a visitor visa on her own? Did you even ask? Or did all you care about was your selfish desire to take this child to the US and play mommy for a while? You can't just take a child to the US and presume that you or your fiance can petition for her, neither of you are her parents, it doesn't matter if he is her so called guardian. If her father is here in the US legally he can petition for her, or your sister can. But I would imagine that because your sister never knew this child existed or has never met her that it would not be easy for her to petition for her considering that she is separated from her father and she will need to prove some sort of bona fide family relationship with the him.

Racist, seriously? No one here has even come close to even hinting that race plays a part in any of this. There is no need to be so dramatic. And since you have mentioned this girl in prior topics your story of her being handed to you 5 minutes before your flight without any knowledge whatsoever of their plan, seems even less believable.

I am glad that you both are taking this in strive & the fortunate thing is that he wasn't permanently banned.
I say in many ways that this is a blessing in disguise in terms of giving you and him more time to learn about each other's personalities and see how much of a compromise you both will give & take in your relationship with each other.
I have to say that from my personal experience with my dear Moroccan husband, we fell madly in love in the beginning and it was a whirl wind romance between us online. We being in two different continents with different cultures and customs during our courtship. But we also knew we have more similarities and it would be worth it when he is here. He told me that he would listen to my advice (since I'm older than him & I'm established here) where he would expect that I listen to him and follow his customs when I'm in Morocco. But I am admitting that I learned a lot about marriage overall (married for 2 1/2 years and my hubby being here 1 1/2 year and us getting ready to file the removal of conditions on his green card).
The main thing is that you cannot change anyone or expect that person to change them in a marriage. You have to accept them for who they are because if you don't, the marriage will be a bumpy one. And this goes for any marriage whether it's marrying someone from the US or any other country, you will not know truly know the quirky person's habits until you live with that person.
But like in any marriage, it takes love, communication, compromise & effort to make it all work. So good luck and best wishes! Keep us posted because I would love to read your update & the happy final arrival!

First of all, I want to say that age difference is not a Red Flag issue (My Moroccan husband and I (US Citizen) are 18 years apart and I being the older one) but for you asking for standard answers on how to answer questions for the interview will be a Red Flag.
I remembered when I started the process and I called the Customer Service number to ask for clarification on what to submit with the petition. The person didn't tell me exactly what I can submit. She told me to submit what "I FELT THAT WILL BEST SHOW PROOF OF OUR ONGOING RELATIONSHIP".
And for you to ask for "boiler plate answers" (other people's answers) here on VJ already shows me personally that you may not know your fiance well enough to know why you want to marry her instead of marrying an Egyptian girl your age. ONLY YOU WILL KNOW THE ANSWER WHY YOU WANT TO MARRY YOUR FIANCE.
So my sincere answer for you is that you communicate with your fiance and you both should come up with the answers that fit both of your relationship. Ultimately, it doesn't matter what other couples' answers are but your relationship answers.
I hope this comment makes sense. There is NO ONE CORRECT ANSWER. The Consulate are pretty good to figure out if one's relationship is forthcoming. I think the best thing is to read the consulate interview reviews and start from there. But good luck and best wishes. Keep us posted.

But there are two questions that you both need to answer on your petition. If you don't have a convincing answer for them, then it will be denied again.
    1) Who will be your wife's co-sponsor? I am assuming since she has been with you in Morocco, she hasn't been working or have a steady income source to show for the AOS. Who will take care of her and you in America?
    2) Does she even have a place in the US that she calls home? She would need to establish a place of domicile. Where would you both call "your home" when you both arrive in America?

Yes, the cost of the airfares is outrageous. I felt the same way too. My husband was able to find a 1 way ticket within 1 month of departure through ROYAL MAROC for about $1100 leaving from Casablanca straight to NYC. It was the best price for September 2013 within 1 month of purchasing it for departure.
The price may be high now too because of Spring Break and especially if you don't book 3 month ahead.
Anyhow, congrats to you & your husband reuniting!
