We ticked the box and the card didn't arrive, so we went to the SSA office and they told us they would never issue a card without seeing the applicant in person, but that's the state of Indiana. I think different locations might have different policies.

I'm not ignoring all the warnings from people, because they have your best interest in mind. But I do feel for you! I am 29 years older than my hubby. He never wanted kids. His immigration interview was tough. He immigrated in 2013. We are inseparable, love each other dearly. He has his 10 year green card and he's still with me. We are buying a house together in the near future. I went into this relationship with my eyes open, and decided I wanted him in my life, even if we failed. We did not, have not, failed. Best of luck to you.

You can always ask. Asking doesn't cost anything.
If there's a cost involved, ask your stupid friend to reimburse you.

I'm sorry all this happened to you. I think people gave you some good advice. I really wanted to say, hang in there. You are young, it's not the end of the world, though it seems like it now. Most of us here have had or are having long distance relationships, some dragging on for years. Right now you are probably feeling helpless because of what happened. Try to get some plans formed so you can move forward and focus on the future.

No they don't track it, and it would only be an issue if your husband needed welfare. Also, check into health insurance in your state to see if you can get coverage for him as soon as possible. A health emergency is the one thing most likely to blind-side a person into needing help. Keep in mind that you, as a USC, are still eligible for help even if he isn't. It's also different from state to state. For instance, when we lived in Indiana my husband's only options were insurance through work or Obamacare. When we moved to California we had my income only for awhile. I applied for Obamacare but the state of CA said our income was too low and they immediately enrolled us in MediCAL. I was shocked, and drove to the local office to explain to them that my husband is a legal permanent resident, he can't possibly be eligible for medicare. They looked at me blankly and said, "Oh, no, he's fine, we even cover illegal immigrants here."

For as long as our case took (is taking...still waiting for the arrival of 10 year GC the IO said hubby would get in 10 days) I would have said, "Welcome, come in, here is our bedroom, my clothes, hubby's clothes, here are our toothbrushes in the bathroom and here is the kitchen where we eat. Coffee?"

Before my hubby immigrated, one local bank I had would not add him to my account unless he was there in person, but I had no problem adding him to my Chase account and Chase credit card. You will note that the accounts were open in my name and I was adding hubby's name to make it a joint account. Does your LPR wife have a SS card? If so, have her open the account and add you if they won't accept any other way.

I know nothing about Gambia, and wanting to know, I looked it up, and was greeted with the ominous message that all government officials from The Gambia are banned from getting a US visa and there is a very high number of people trying to leave the country. In light of the political problems, my guess is this is making things even harder for the OP.
Not every country's citizens are easily granted visitor visas. My husband's country is in Europe but has no waver program and generally visitor visas are not given to unmarried men there, so there was zero chance for my hubby to come here to meet or visit me. We married in his country and I visited again, on a credit card.

Not to have you worry about your daughter but that daycare needs to be reported. You noticed she was acting weird when you picked her up, they should have noticed also. Even if they didn't realize she broke her arm they failed to tell you she fell, heck they didn't even say a thing to you until you told them she broke her arm. The daycare should have contacted you or your emergency contact person after a fall.

We were split up but the questions were basic....where did we get married, where my husband works, what kind of car we have, how old is my daughter (they asked him only). When my husband entered the US (me only). Both of us (separated)...where we lived when he came to the US (Indiana), why did we leave Indiana (didn't like the area, smog & humidity), why we moved to California (my daughter lived there, beautiful area), why did we leave California (hubby was sick because of all the mold on the coast), how did we choose Wisconsin (his cousin & jobs). It was also mentioned that we like nature so we both (separately) mentioned the trails we've walked, etc. If it was a "Stokes" then it was easy. I suspect they may have asked because of us moving around so much. I gave him pictures. He didn't look at the 5 pounds of paperwork I brought. I offered it to him, he said, no, he didn't need it. LOL after all that printing I guess he could see we are very co-mingled and honest. Anyway, as I got up to go he said my husband can expect his GC in about 2 weeks!

So today my hubby went for his second Biometrics for ROC. His first appointment was April 2015, but apparently because so much time had passed, they sent him a second appointment for today. While we were there he told the lady he hoped it wouldn't take so long this time. She looked at his appointment letter and said, "Oh, it's Code 1, they aren't collecting much information this time."
Sure enough, near the top right of the letter it says Code 1. I just looked as his appointment letter from April 2015 and it says Code 3.
Just thought that was interesting, and something I had not heard of before.

indiana_sweetie reacted to andy78 in How can I get my fiance to understand.....
As you know, in some places having a baby without being married is a taboo. He probably already told everyone (such as his family) that he is about to marry a woman who has a child from a prior marriage, because he would be ashamed to tell them otherwise. He might even be ashamed to admit in front of the embassy interviewer that he is marrying someone with who has a child, and who was never married before. He could be in denial because this is such a taboo in his "culture".
As someone else suggested, you have much bigger issues than having to worry about the interview. Men like him (and their families) do not, under normal circumstances, agree to marry a woman who has had premarital sex or children without being married. It would be a big scandal for them and their families if they did. Which is why I would have to question why he wants to marry you.

Reality check and tough love talk :

Continue to have a pissy attitude and you find yourself alone some day.
This is a process that reveals the real you, float with it and drown or choose to knock it off and be as kind as you were before.
If you think this is the only challenge you will face in marriage then you are wrong, very wrong.
If my partner would have had a big pissy personality change due to some forms and a few months of waiting time I would
run.You have been waiting for only 2 months since you filed and already have a bad attitude ? Seriously ?!
Just for some healthy perspective, this visa journey took us 5 long years to come together so what is 5 months ? Nothing you can't handle if you choose to. Period.
Get your big girl panties on and be the woman your man fell in love with and stop the negativity, it is not appealing to anyone in a
relationship. Why would he want to spend more time with you if you are constantly in a pissy mood ?
It is YOUR own choice to be happy or miserable where you currently are. Suck it up buttercup and put a smile on your face
and learn to deal with your long distance choices or date locally instead of making your man second guess his choice, which was
building a happy life with you.....challenges and all, the good, the bad and the ugly !
