The I-864 Affidavit of Support is a contract between a sponsor and the applicant that is required for some immigrant visas. In this contract the sponsor agrees to provide financial support for the applicant until he/she becomes an American citizen or can be credited with 40 quarters of work (usually ten years).

There is no USCIS field office in Saudi Arabia, so even if the OP was still living there, they couldn't do DCF.

A country needs to be on this list for DCF to be an option: https://www.uscis.gov/about-us/find-uscis-office/international-immigration-offices

A 9C bar (which he'd have from EWI twice and at least a year of unlawful presence) is a lifetime bar which is only waiverable after 10 years of documented presence outside the US.

Material misrepresentation is likewise a lifetime bar, but you can apply for a waiver immediately, if you're eligible.

It's entirely possible that the embassy could hit him with both at the same time.

The issue is the man claimed a single unlawful entry.   The truth is he has 2.  The waiver was good for what he stated not the truth. Once discovered he will get the 10 year mandatory bar and possibly a finding of material misrepresentation.    The man may never be able to come back to the US.

In his first post he indicated his friend left on a plane but didn't indicate how he came back to the US. I presume by land as any POE at the airport would've denied entry.

Your friend is really a hard knock lol... He should let his lawyer know the truth about the 2009 trip to Cost Rica and illegally crossing the border into the US again, a good immigration lawyer would know how to manage such situation. It is always very important to be very honest with your lawyer from day one.

Specifically, you are asking if the US government will know he entered Costa Rica.  The answer is probably not.  The issue is whether the US Government knows he was in and left the US.  Those are different questions.  You've already been told the consequences of making a material misrepresentation to an immigration official or on an immigration form.

For example, the US government may or may not know I entered the Philippines on November 1st, but they do know I boarded an international flight from Seattle to Taipei on October 30 based on the airline passenger manifest.  If your friend traveled overland illegally into and out of Mexico on the way to Costa Rica, there's no way to know whether his presence in the US was known or not, without more information.

You are fine and overstating is forgiven when married to a us citizen. Just y iu can not leave until you get ap...you can not be denied a green card bc you overstayed as intent is given at the border!!!

File as soon as possible but don't be stressed if you file late as you won't be banned.

at this point it doesn't matter what the lawyer said
the embassy told you that you need the waiver
you have to do what immigration says / simple as that
i hope you kept a copy of the waiver as looks like immigration lost it

Both my parents were granted a US tourist visa. They are both retired. My mom is receiving pension but my dad relies on what we give him. When they both applied they were going to visit my sister who was a green card holder during that time. They were just asked about what the reason for their visit was, how long my sister has been in the usa, & what her job and income is.

    This was in 2015.

They were not asked about ties or properties owned in the philippines. They were not asked to provide any documents and such.

There is no sure fire way of getting a tourist visa. Just tell them to be prepared and be honest with all their answers. The decision will all depend on the CO interviewing them.

Yes that was my point. After my husband's first interview we had 2.5 years of waiting. That is the time we used to make sure to create more evidence. The thing most people don't really know when going to their first interview is exactly what they are looking for. But you have a pretty good idea later. So i'm saying, keep up with your conversations, make note of any changes you make to name, documents, things like that need to be kept so you can have a history of your relationship to take to the next interview. And don't wait for last minute to put it all together. It's unlikely social media apps like whatsapp and Messenger, etc will allow for you to print out 2.5 years of conversations. But you can if you do it every 6 months, so you have info from the interview all the way up to the next one. Even stuff you have close to the interview. Add it as well. Trips you took, emails you have, whatever it is from beginning up to the day of interview if you have it.

IcezMan_IcezLady got a reaction from Lemonslice in Conflicting info on building credit.
Answer to this part ^^ if you have a big purchase like $150 or up to the entire credit limit, use the credit card and pay 90% to 98% before the end of the cycle.

To clear this up for you.. To build your credit fast, you must not pay the entire amount but dont leave a substantial balance either.
For example, you spend $19 on your credit card, you pay $17  and leave the $2 (dont worry too about the interest on a $2).
This practice helps to keep your credit in revolving mode (not sure if that's the correct word).
It tells the credit card people that you are responsible  meanwhile they can make small money off you. So you give them what they want  and you get what you want back. But this way ensures that you dont give them more than you want to give.

This practice will get you an increase in credit limit without you having to request the credit card company. Remember that whenever you make the request, the credit card company or the bank does a "hard pull" on your credit report. hard pull will always cost you points off your credit score. Avoid multiple "hard pulls" as much as possible..especially when shopping for a car.

Another thing is to be added as an authorized user to someone with good standing account. An authorized user doesn't have to be given a credit card. But if you get a credit card through this process, the primary account holder is responsible for the charges on AU card.

@aamirnicole, have you met your fiancé in person yet? If you haven’t, either plan (online marriage or married on first meeting) will not go over well with the embassy. Those are both big red flags.

Unfortunately since you’re dealing with a difficult embassy, you have to go above and beyond to prove your relationship. The best way to do this is time spent together...multiple trips and if possible long periods of time. I know it’s expensive and will delay things, but it is necessary to get through the immigration process. (Believe me I spent 2 years and 2 Visa attempts to get my husband here from Ghana.)
