Does anyone else get the feeling that Trump secretly stopped all immigration until the election was over? These processing times and quite frankly the embassies blatant disregard for people’s time just doesn’t add up to me. People are working at these embassies but are literally doing nothing. I don’t know...just seems like something he would do. Maybe I’m reaching, but we all know how he feels about immigration.

Go with your idea. We couldn't plan as you had no guarantee when you'd get the visa. Then, family all over the globe and US, literally. We had a private beach wedding in Key West, then planned a 'celebration' three months later for family to attend. You save a gob of money, it's very intimate just the two of you, and there's no hurt feelings (Aunt Patty didn't get to sit in the front row, niece Jenny wasn't the flower girl, etc.). USCIS didn't care about it; as everyone has said, they just want a legitimate marriage certificate. We did send in a couple of photos. You'll be glad you got the legal part out of the way, and can then enjoy your life together. Congrats, by the way!!

Be grateful the approvals are being done so quickly. They can change quickly and make people wait months, sometimes a year or so. Hope it is quick for you.

I totally agree that it may be a great show of support to try to be there... you can explain your case, and perhaps if he/she can see your face and you two together, can tell it is genuine. I used to have this in my signature while we were going through the process (I borrowed it from someone else)...

We all have things we're not proud of I'm sure, but don't give up. You will find good friends here in the same waiting game to help keep your spirits up. I don't know how we would have coped without the wonderful folks you find here.

I have to chime in and defend this site I've been using it since 2012, guides, charts and all, and found it extremely helpful. You have to hunt, dig, ask, and it takes work. This is what saves us from having to pay an attorney to do these same steps.

Husband's green card arrived in mail today. We'll be back in approximately six months for the final round: citizenship. We sincerely wish for everyone else to get their approvals. Don't lose hope, friends. Xx

Let's take out all of the visa business. If you were simply two Americans..... with such a volatile relationship, it's time to throw in the towel. From what you have described, it sounds like this behavior would drag on for years. You are worth so much more, and deserve a true partner who will be equally supportive and genuinely in love. It sounds to me like he "wants his cake and be able to eat it, too". I'm sorry for the pain you are going through.

I have also seen people who think they've planned far enough out, and something (K-1 approval, NVC, Embassy interview, AP) causes an unforseen delay. Money has been deposited, tickets purchased... panic, stress, $$$. This isn't a traditional path to marriage, so some creativity should be used (and understood by family).

We had both sides (parents) wanting to celebrate with us, and we didn't want any feelings hurt. So, once we finally go that visa in hand, we had a lovely "just the two of us" wedding in Key West on the beach. We then planned for both sides of the family (and any friends who wanted to attend) to meet us here in North Carolina in February for a Valentine's Day celebration. It was the best thing we ever could have hoped for. For one thing, the ceremony was very personal and special - no stress, no expensive things to pay for. We were able to enjoy the intimate ceremony, then file for the AOS immediately. By the time our families arrived, it was a very care-free, happy event, and all were very pleased with the outcome.
