He can start taking English classes now. You can also seek out and arrange for English classes here. He should begin them immediately when he arrives and for at LEAST 4 days per week. Do NOT ignore this. In order for him to have a satisfying life in the USA he will need to have a very good level of English. Being bi-lingual is wonderful...with emphasis on BI-lingual
That is the best you can do for him now if he does not speak English, that comes first. Get him involved with other ENGLISH speaking activities he likes, sports, etc. Keep him with native English speakers as much as possible. Sorry, but he needs to avoid his native language as much as possible until he is fluent in English. All movies, books, newspapers and internet sites should be ENGLISH ONLY. Speaking at home ENGLISH ONLY. Say it and show him as many times as you have to...in English. I did this with our youngest son who spoke very little English when came (age 13 at that time) I did homework with him, chores with him and repeated what we were doing in ENGLISH over and over and over, every day. He would get frustrated and say, in Russian, "Say it in Russian" NYET! No! And I would repeat it in English and go through the motions. We also got him on the school basketball team, I think that was even better for him.
The level of frustration he had showed up when he recently wrote his own college entrance essays, in English of course, and spoke of how frustrated he was, how "mean" we were not allowing him to speak his own language...but now realizes how important it was. Now he feels he has "made lemonade from the lemons"
He now speaks excellent English, with virtually NO accent and perfect Russian. Now we want to maintain his Russian so about 80% of home conversation is Russian, he gets plenty of English at school, sports and work, NOW we want to preserve his Russian
DO NOT let him fall into the easy way out of seeking Spanish speaking friends, jobs, etc. Later he can do that.
I promise this will not be easy for him or you...if you love him and want the best for him in this country (and anywhere actually) you will do it.

i know ive never said anything in this topic, simply because i agree with most people's advice on here and also because i am neither a doctor nor a psychologist, so i can't say anything about your husband's problems. however, i've followed this threat and was shocked and worried about you at the same time!
just wanted to check in and see if everything is okay with you, since it's been a while that you last logged in....!
please let us know what you're up to and if you are alright - i bet theres more people than just me who are worried!

well, the dream act problem is on a whole different page! what i was trying to say is: they definitely didn't SKIP you! you're already on someone's desk - maybe waiting in line after the dream act people, but definitely ready to be worked on - that's why someone else (who is probably new and still needs to make a good impression which is why he is actually working ) has already run out of dream act petitions and is thus starting with april k1s - still there are no other march k1s left for him to put on his desk.
i know - it probably doesnt make you feel better - and i am just trying to help... but maybe you at least feel better knowing your petition hasn't been skipped over!!!! i know there is probably not much that would make you guys feel any better at this point, except for a noa2... but i am desperately trying to cheer you up!

well, it happens to every month, though - remember? a while ago we were talking about how vermont usually starts approving the next month when they're at about 50% on igor's list... it's just bad luck who gets left behind at first. but this is nothing unusal, so you are all still getting your approvals! don't worry too much and don't think they lost your files or anything! i know it sucks big time - but at least, maybe knowing this happens each month helps you keep your spirits up a little? it could be any day now for everyone of you guys still waiting! so don't give up! and don't think they skipped you - they didn't. there's just some guy who is done with his petitions and got the next few from the box - apparently there were no more march petitions in the box, wich means that all yours are on someones desk already!!!!!!

sorry, this might be a stupid question, but: are you sure it's the date of your noa1 and not noa2????? they started approving petitions from march in late august, so maybe you already got approved. i've heard of people who never got their noa1! does the text say something like "On August ... we have approved this I129F petition..."? then it is noa2.
