  1. Hi everyone,

I have been filling out the I-864 document for a few days now for my wife in mexico. I as the petitioner will be a sponsor and I am filling out the I-864. I didn't make enought money last year so I will need a co-sponsor. My mom will be a relative co-sponsor and is filling out the I-864A document. Here are my questions:

Question #1:My mom filed a joint return with my step-dad last year. Together they made around 50K. If my mom only signs an I-864A document, will the National Visa Center look at the income for the joint return (50K), or just what my mom made last year?

Question #2:So will my step-dad also need to fill out an I-864A? And can he, being a step-dad, not my father?

Thanks so much for the help!!!

I have the same situation so I'm going to try to answer your questions with my utmost knowledge. :)

The co-sponsor needs to submit a separate I-864 that would be your mom.

If your mom alone made enough money to meet/exceed the poverty line, your step-dad does'nt need to fill I-864A. but otherwise your step-dad needs to fill I864.

  2. My case was reaffirmed early this month. I am wondering how long will I have to wait for NVC to contact me with a case number? Does anyone know? I have called twice and both times they tell me that they have not received it yet. And does the USCIS send it to them right away or do they hold it for a while? The representatives that answer the phone say 15 business days which is 3 weeks.

It took us approximately 7 weeks to get the petition to NVC from date of approval.

  3. Hey guys, I'm just wondering should I call the NVC at this point as I'm waiting over a month to hear back from them after my NOA2, would it do any good or will they just tell me to wait some more? I have already emailed them but apart from an automated response I haven't heard back yet. Also since I can't really afford to call America is ot ok for my mother in law in the States to inquire on my behalf? Thanks for any help, starting to wonder what the delay is now.

Recently, it has been taking more time to get the papers from USCIS to NVC. In my case I got the approval letter on Feb.1,2012. NVC received it Mar.19,2012. so about 7 weeks. then to got nvc case number apr.3,2012.

Send a copy of your approval letter to nvcresearch@state.gov

  4. Got this email today. Should I be worried?

    Hi guys,

I am honored to join VJ crowed. Just wanted to also put my piece of information. I am in the same boat with everyone else who are waiting for the IV bill to be generated. I called them on number of occasions and they told me that it should be up sometime before Friday. My husband also received an email from NVC saying that IV bill will be sent shortly. I hope they will do it very soon.

Thank you and nice to meet you all :)

I just paid IV fee bill minutes ago for $230 only!
