  1. Yes you can... My wife had hers done at the red cross in Medellin on 10-25-2011. Her appointment was with Dr. Gonzalez on 11-04-2011 with no problems. She was required to get the influenza shot at her appointment which she had not done in Medellin (so three shots in Medellin and one in Bogota). I don't remember the cost for the vaccinations but it was well under $100 - I think around $70.

I would recommend if you go this route to get the vaccinations done as close to the lab/exams date as possible.

Of course you can get them somewhere else. all you need are the records even if you have the records from when you got them as a kid.

I agree, get them close to your appointment.

  2. Good Afternoon Everyone,

I had a question that my wife and I need some help with. My wife is a 26 year woman from Colombia and we are applying for a CR1 Visa. Our NVC case was completed as of 8/16/2012 and we are awaiting an interview date with the U.S. Embassy in Bogota. We are worried about the vaccination and medical exam process. I have heard absolute horrible things about Dr. Roa and his practices and I am nervous that I will have to spend a small fortune on vaccinations. If it turns out that my wife needs most or all of the vaccinations, how much cash am I looking to spend here? I am under the impression that it will be a few hundred dollars. Any help or advice would be awesome.

    Thank You and Good Luck!!!

    Joe Kwa.

Don't go to Dr Roa, go to one of the others and get vaccinations before you go or from family doctor. My fiance called Red Cross and was quoted for the 3 vaccinations and it came out to just under $85 total. She will be getting them in 2 weeks so I will let you know if it comes out different.

  3. Thanks for the help guys, I also had another question. Once I file my I-129F form I also have to prove that I can support my fiance once she lives in the U.S. however I am a full-time university student with a part-time job, my parents help support me financially. Will this slow down or cancel my visa process?

@Brock: Yes the stamps are dated.

When she goes to the interview at the Embassy, she will need the I134 or affidavit of support that you fill out to prove you can support her, if you do not meet the guidelines you can have a co-sponsor apply also.

There is a huge amount about this in the forums and guides so I will not go into specific dollar amounts and processes, but your not making much money does not kill your chances.

  4. My fiance and I just started the K-1 Fiance Visa application process. We reviewed the application process on this website, and I'm glad that the instructions here are easy to follow. However there are some concerns that I have and hopefully someone with experience can help.

My fiance and I have many pictures taken together and various receipts of purchases that help prove that I've visited her in her country. But I'm concerned that I don't have all my plane tickets, I have some of them and I have all of my itinerary. Will it be ok for me to not have all the plane tickets? I've visited her two times in the last two years, will not having all my plane tickets cause the application to be denied?

Also if anyone has any tips they would like to give, that would be much appreciated!

I did not have boarding passes or receipts either as I did not know I would need them later.

I sent copies of my passport stamps and of my bank statement for that period showing use of my card for hotel and ATMs, and then pictures and letter describing our meeting.

No problems -no RFE, I hope it's the same for you.

  5. We just recieved an email today from immigration that my DIL"s I129 has been approved. Due some health and work issues, they are not in a real rush now. How long does she have to do her interview...and then how long will her K1 be good for. Are extentions available? My son is trying to get another year in on his contract job in Afghanastan.

The I=129F is good for 4 months when your NOA2 arrives it will have the expiration date on it in the upper right, so you have 4 months to have your interview for your K-1 extensions are possible but not common. The K-1 then is valid for 6 months but contrary to what other poster said it is invalid once it is used and 194 is then used, but you must get married within 90 days of use of K-1.

If I understand correctly you want to postpone actually applying for K-1 and stay in country for awhile. You can try for an extension on your I-129, contact the embassy and see what you nedd to do. Without an extension you have 4 months to use I-129F and then 6 months to use K-1 so you could stretch it out for 10 months if you plan it very carefully.

But in MHO pushing everything to the last day is a little dangerous.

  6. I heard it's hard also. I just want him to come visit & such. I plan on us getting married in Jamaica. But with my health problems & not being able to travel I just want my fiance to come visit. He has his son there so he isn't staying. Plus I want everything to be done 100% legal so we won't have issues in the future.

Hmmm if you cannot travel to visit him but are planning to travel to get married....this is the kind of things that will raise red flags and get things denied. If we notice you are lieing here trust me the USCIS and Embassy personel will notice.

Also if you are planning on getting married in Jamaica you do not want the K-1 (or fiance) visa. just go there get married and then apply for the CR-1 and get him here.

  7. We have received our NOA2 and I'm curious as to how my fiance will be notified and/or receive the Instruction and Appointment Package - Fiance K-Visas (Packets 3 & 4). Mail? Email? If it is email how are they suppose to have her email address as we have not provided her email address in the I129F package I sent in. Was I suppose to generate a G-1145 for her so that they embassy in Bogota has her contact info?

Did you call NVC and give them both your email addresses?

If not you can contact embassy direct, I sent them an email and the next day they emailed me the packet to forward to her. Make sure you include your case #.

They do not snail mail it because in Bogota the snail is dead.

  8. Since you’re not allowed to go into the actual interview with your fiancé and you have to wait in the waiting room, are there any benefits of traveling to your fiance’s country for the Visa Interview Date? Other than for love and support…obviously.

OK so Peru and Ecuador and I read another post today where they actually saw the fiance waiting and asked him to join the interview. Can't remember the country.

Support is obviously the best reason, and time together, but I imagine if for some reason they needed more evidence of an ongoing relationship...then "my fiance is here" would be a good answer.

  9. Actually I disagree that they are clear. The instructions do say proof of having met within the past two years, but its quite obvious how people interpret this differently. Look at previous posts and you see how some included very little and others put a lot; both were approved. Form part C, question 1, I have heard of people getting an RFE for having it blank. But it seems it could be read as "if.....blah blah blah". Therefore if you don't even meet any criteria you don't even bother to answer it. Not even with an 'N/A'. Another example would be "were you ever convicted of a crime? Y N" and the next question was "did the conviction result in prison time?" (just an example). If you answered No to the first part, why would you even bother putting something in for the second part?

That's because it actually takes very little to prove you have met, a passport stamp and a photo is enough for some countries. Some put in a lot to play on the safe side. But putting in nothing proves nothing. Not even a signed document from beneficiary? And it clearly states that if you have not met, you must include evidence of one of the accepted reasons why. In your other example it does not say if you have not been convicted of a crime you must prove why.If you have not benn convicted of a crime they see that as a good thing, if you have not met your Fiance, they see that as a red flag.

P.S. If you have never been married before, you do not need to include proof of divorce.

  10. That's OK, like I said I feel foolish now. The thing is, I downloaded the I-129F instructions, and also the Fiance help pdf. None of them say I need to submit evidence of anything with the I-129F form. I knew more would be required eventually, after the I-129F is approved and when going for the interview, but I did not know I needed to submit a whole packet with the initial form. I was just in the Philippines in May, and also last year, so I have met her 2 times in the last 2 years. I can easily prove everything. I mostly used Xoom to send her money, but they for some reason closed my account, so for a while I used Western Union, but I was eventually able to create a new account with Xoom and have mostly been using them for the last year.

The instructions for the I-129F from the USCIS website clearly state all the things you need to send besides the I-129F and check, including G-325's, proof of citizenship, proof of ability to legally marry, letter's of intent to marry, photos, IMBRA documents if needed, court and police documents if needed, and proof of having met in person in last 2 years. (#5 part A "Provide copies of evidence that you and your Fiance (e) have met within the last two years; or if you have never met within the last two years, provide a......)

If you did not send some of these an RFE is likely if you sent none of them a denial is guaranteed.

Please read the instructions and save yoursel some time and headaches next time.

  11. So on Friday my mom called me telling me that I received a letter on the mail, dated July 23rd; saying that the NVC had recently received my petition and that within a week it would be forwarded to the embassy in Colombia. So what happens now? can I make schedule my interview now? I am a bit confused! please help!

    Read the guides...and your letter.

When it gets to the Embassy, they will e-mail your packet of 3-4 of instructions ( I got mine in 24 hours) you can however get the packet now through the link in the Embassy info section http://bogota.usembassy.gov/appt-package.html it has everything you need to know and have ready. It also has link to where you can register and schedule your interview.

  12. We have our K1 visa in hand, issued in May, expires in November. He hasn't entered the states yet.

The lady who interviewed us from the US Embassy Belize called today to ask when our wedding date is going to be (left a message with his mother). Why would she do this? It strikes me as very strange. In our original interview we told her some time in September.

Maybe he made such an impact on her at the interview that she wants to send a gift...a toaster maybe.

  13. On my first trip to Bogota I stayed at the Radel Bogota http://www.hotelradelbogota.mex.tl/frameset.php?url=/photo_593582_Sin-Nombre.html it is half a block from the embassy, in a nice neighborhood free breakfast and the best deal I have found. There a are several others within a couple blocks of the embassy too because the Feria is so close, I liked this one because it was very clean nice had big rooms and they were very friendly. This is where I plan on staying again when I go for our interview in sept.

This was our room, not all of them had a balcony, but were still nice. The fiance of a friend of my fiance also stayed very close on the next block called Hotel Estellar de la Feria, very nice but more expensive. There is also Hotel Alto de la Embajada, Hotel Casa Fortel, Hotel San Rafael, Corferias Inn and Hotel Platinum Suite all within a couple blocks of the Embassy I know of them but have never stayed there so no info on niceness or price and these are just the ones I know of. As I said before between the Embassy and the Feria the are at least 20 Hotels in the area. Unfortunately most of them are no found on the travel sights.

  14. My fiance and I are traveling to Bogota for her K1 Visa Interview. So I am looking for a hotel. Nice, but not too expensive. Close to the embassy, but in a nice neighborhood.

Does anyone have any recommondations for a hotel?

  15. Congratulations! Now you can track it at www.dhl.com it's en route now Waybill: 9450865900 - BOGOTA - COLOMBIA

This link will show you more about tracking from NVC to the embassy http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/302190-dhl-tracking-from-nvc-to-us-embassy/

Good luck on your continued journey :)

Seriously how do you know all this?!!? I am amazed. I went to your link and tried to get my tracking info and could not. I am guessing you did it and found that this is the only package for Bogota on this day so I am guessing it is indeed mine

    Thank you

  16. Aweseome, and you were processed via CSC with a NOA1 after me. Hopefully VSC will start to pick up the pace. Wish you the best on the rest of your journey.

I hope so too, funny, when I first filed I was bummed I went to CSC because it seemed from here that VSC was going so much faster. Now from the posts on here it seems VSC is closed for the summer. I hope they start moving along here for all of you VSC filers.

  17. I have been waiting to contact the NVC for the recommended 2 weeks, I was a little confused as some say 2 weeks and some say 14 business days. So I decided to start calling at the 2 week mark. Plus I was a little worried about all the posts I had read about the slow down with the NVC getting the files. When I called I was told they had sent it on to the embassy the day before. Wow Okay Great

So to all those complaining about going crazy during the wait....use that time to get ready for the next steps. As it really starts to move once the USCIS is done.
