Who says you have to have a wedding? Just get married You can always have a big weddingt later

German citizenship (by birth) is acquired solely through "jus sanguinis" (the law of the bloodline) versus "jus soli" (the law of the soil). Simply being born on German soil therefore doesn't make anybody a citizen and honestly, I'm glad it's that way. Maybe the U. S. should consider changing that part of its law, too... "Anchor babies", anyone?

Doesn't your husband have to work?? I don't know anybody who can take a year+ time off just like that. And you do know that your baby has to have a passport before you can fly to the States with it? I know people who waited almost 6 months for their baby's passport.
Personally, I wouldn't do it. I had to move half way around the world with an 8 week old last year and it was no joke. Also, people always assume that everything will be perfectly fine. What if it's not? What if your baby has medical needs that won't make it possible to fly 10+ hours with him or her?
Honestly, I would try to get better health insurance and do it all in the States. My maternity and post-partum care in CA was FAR from "the bare minimum".

It was quite the experience... only THREE people total and we all thought, awesome, we'll be out of here in no time. But never underestimate the slowliness of DHS... They managed to drag things fromm 0830 to almost 1300
Since there are NO electronics allowed to be brought into the consulate, they took pictures for us and will email them in the next few days.

Well, no more complaining from my part, that's for sure.... this morning the Consulate emailed me the invitation for my interview: Next Thursday!!! And when I read the invitation, it mentioned guests, dress code and that it takes from 0830 until about 1300.... So I just emailed the lady again and - the oath will be done right after the test!!!!!!!

So I gave in and finally called the military help line to check on my status My paperwork was received at Frankfurt Consulate on 28 February and I should be hearing from them within 30 days. The VERY nice person on the phone told me that our military mail addresses here are sometimes slow to receive mail (very true, unfortunately) and to maybe check back with the military help line to double-check the status and make sure I'm not missing an interview invitation because of it. I will also email the consulate again and make sure they still have my email address on file as well as our physical address in Germany so they can send an invitation there. I guess things ARE actually moving along... Wooot woot!

Oh and I found an email address for the military point of contact in Nebraska so I sent an email there ref. the average processing time for overseas naturalization.

I totally agree with the comfort thing.
I also don't think another column should be added... there's a ton of information we could TECHNICALLY put up there but it's really not necessary. If somebody wants to put EVERY little detail out there, they can do it in there signature/timeline.

Hi, yes, your husband will defently loose his citizenship for germany. Germany is one of the few countries who DO NOT support dual citizenship.
Yes, he can apply for it ... but for this he will have to proove that he has family-blood-line related ties in the USA!! Or if he owns land, lots of houses, a company etc that makes him need the citizenship in germany ... but even then its almost impossible that germany accepts it. Unfortunately I can't afford Kobe beef, but I'd prefer a good piece of Argentinian beef to US beef any time. I hate the quality of the meat in the US... pretty much every piece of beef, pork or chicken I ever threw in a pan there ended up watering all over the place. That's not good quality. The only thing I didn't have that problem with was lamb. Loved the lamb shoulder.
And it took me forever to find good potatos, too. I don't like the white, "mealy" stuff you find everywhere. It always took me a while to get some "golden", firm potatos that actually tasted good without being drowned in gravy or sour cream, lol
