Does anyone know your father's name?
It's okay to answer unknown to questions that are truly unknown. Like your mother's present location.
I suggest doing as much research into answering the unknown questions as you can, but if you truly cannot find out, then it's the appropriate answer. I don't know what the implications of it will be, so hopefully someone who knows might be able to answer you better. You, or your spouse, also might try calling the NVC on Monday to see what they can tell you.

    Hello all,
I wanted to find out how others have dealt with a missing parent when completing their DS 230 form. I never knew my mother as she abandoned me as an infant and I was raised by various family members and family friends. I remember meeting her a bunch of times when I was very young but that was it and there was no relationship at all. I was told she disappeared when I was a teenager (she apparently tended to do that) - no one knows quite where she took off to and with whom and she has been gone since. She has been gone so long, the family generally presumes she is dead - this is just family talk and not an official record by the way. So looking through the form, I am unsure what to write under 'city and country of residence'. Should I write 'unknown' or 'missing' (will they not want proof of an official missing status?) or should I just enter the last city she was known by her family to have been in. Not sure how to handle this one.
Further to that, my mother did not name my father on my birth certificate so I will have a whole bunch of 'unknown' entries on my form. What do you think the implications of that will be?
Thanks in advance for your response.

Answer as much as you can. Write 'unknown' for items that are unknown.
And I want to add that I'm very sorry you went through such a thing as a child. You must be a very strong person! Good luck on your journey.

I know some people were waiting to hear a feedback from meabout my husband’s interview in Nigeria yesterday. I was having a bad pregnancyday with some shortness of breath so was not up to it yesterday. The baby chose that day to be a football (soccer) player or maybe gymnast inside my belly.Hubby thinks the little one had an inkling of what was about to happen and was doing precelebration.
YES we were APPROVED!!!!!!! by a very difficult embassy. To GOD be the glory because His mercies and favor towards us has been innumerable. Infact, this week has been full of good news for VJ Nigerians who had their interviews.
After hearing the details of my husband’s interview, Idecided to use this title to draw attention to the fact that some of theseembassies are labeled difficult only because some of us are not well preparedfor our interviews. Yes I agree, there is still that CO that will issue adecision we may not understand but let us first address our areas ofchallenges(red flags), if any and leave the rest.
People, if you will pass through such embassies/consulates, FRONTLOAD!!!!!I cannot say this enough.
VJ as community has been a blessing and I thank everyonethat has supported us with encouragement, prayers and good thoughts . I have been and will still be available to assist and share whatever i know as needed here.
My review has been put up at our embassy’s site for others’ benefitand below is the link:

he also shared shocking responses given by some applicants. One lady was asked about their Marriage certificate and she said they dnt have any, the Co then produced one from her file sent by her US based hubby and aksed how come that is there ? so how did you guys marry and she was like: "we had traditional wedding and that is considered marriage in our culture". hello?????
This same lady was asked "where did you meet your husband" and she replied " at the airport" . The CO then asked "so you go to the airport everyday to see if you will meet a man?" and she said "no my aunt introduced us and he came down to visit so i went to pick him at the airport".
Co: When did he propose to you?
    lady: "two days later"?.
CO; you just met someone, he proposed to you two days laters and you said yes?
of course she was denied. So many other stories he shared on what he overheard there revealed how callous some people can be.
So my conclusion is that these VERY DIFFICULT embassies/consulates are the way we fear them to be because some people do not do their homework well.

To be fair, up untill sometime last year the IV fee used to $404!!!!! then it was REDUCED TO $230. So effective Feb 1 this additional fee of $165 was added as GC issuance fee. By my calculation $230+ $165 = $395. we still come out better than the $404.
Honestly I am not complaining at all. The $9 saved will get me two cups of mango smoothie at Dunkin

A B2 visa does not let you visit differently than the VWP really, though it lets you stay longer at one time. If your issue is frequency, a B2 visa will not help you. Your bf is spending almost as much time in the US as out of it. The border patrol was trying to warn you that he should stay home a while before coming back. To get a B2 visa from a VWP country, he has to show them why he needs 6 months of visit time instead of 3. It sounds like you don't actually need 6 months anyway, you just want to be able to visit whenever (which a B2 visa won't allow you to do).
If the B2 visa is denied, then you most likely won't be able to use the VWP for a while either.

My fiance's K1 visa was approved last week in South Korea!
I went to Seoul in January and we prepared the medical exam, scheduled the interview, and got all of the paperwork translated together. We also scheduled her interview for April 4th.
She came to visit for the whole month of March. No problem on entry by the way. We went to my hometown to introduce her to my parents (who loved her!).
She got to the consulate at 7:30 A.M. and I heard from her via text again in about 2 hours time. Apparently the actual non-waiting time was about one hour. The interviewer asked her if she preferred to speak Korean or English, so the interview was conducted in Korean. Questions were very similar to those we've all seen here: how did you meet, did you meet his parents, what's your plan after marriage, when will you leave? The only tricky question was "do you plan to have a wedding here?" I'm not sure if this was set up as a trick or not. Apparently the interviewer was extremely kind and actually said he was impressed by our application packet. But he did ask the question. So my fiance answered properly, "No, we will have a wedding in the US".
One thing I want to recommend to VJ members - I'm sure you've all seen those photo book websites like shutterfly.com or others? Those books make great evidence and it's very easy to handle as opposed to a loose packet of photos. Just an idea. We had three books which she presented to the interviewer. Apparently he said, "You look like a perfect couple. Your visa will arrive in a few days."
She scared the living ####### out of me after the interview. The first thing I received from her was "여보 ... ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ" which is like ... "honey... (crying / sad emotion)". So I was so. scared. I knew I had prepared everything well, so I called her immediately- not even on an app... an actually extremely high priced phone call. She was just teasing me though, and all was completely fine. Phew!
Anyway, if anyone has any questions about the South Korean process - please feel free to contact me at any time.

I gotta tell ya, I am in much relief and joy about the I-130 approval.
What I got in was not an RFE, but a NOID - and the rebuttal I prepared had me very nervous - there were 2 essays and another pile of evidence. Along the way, I got yet another letter from the local office stating that they wanted me to come in to go over the file, but that I had to make an infopass appointment and come in. I did the drop off with the RFE rebuttal sometime around 6 March, but was on tenterhooks since then.
Anyway - the earliest I could get an infopass was 25 March, so I went in and learned that my I-130 was approved on the 23rd and in a pile to go to NVC. about 2 hours after returning from the appointment, my status changed on the status portal thingie. My official approval date is the 25th, so yay ! I am still waiting on the postal notification, but that's ok...
It was such a relief, I was so ecstatic Monday afternoon.
My NOID stuff wasn't 'normal' - we had some red flags to document and overcome, but in the end, I was successful... whew !
On a lark, I called NVC last night, and of course they don't have my stuff ya ya ya...
Thanks for all the well wishes, and good luck to those of us, The Oct filers, still a waiting. Go Get Em !
