  1. Hi,

Im currently in the space between getting the NOA1 and NOA2 and I was wondering if I should get my police certificate here in the UK. Its possible that the certificate will show I have a caution from when I was 15 back in 1995 so I'd like to get as prepared as I can as soon as I can.

    Cheers

    Dean

    Hi Dean,

Yes, absolutely do it. I ordered my police certificate in Canada as soon as I filed the I129F, and it took a couple of weeks for them to get it sorted out. It looked great at first blush, but my daughter (who picked it up for me) pointed out that it had my birthdate wrong. Suddenly I was 23 years younger. I called them and had to go through a whole 'nother two weeks waiting for the corrected certificate. So you never know what can go wrong. Be prepared.

Also, don't worry about a caution. As long as you are open and honest about everything, you'll be fine.

    Good luck.

    Shannon

  2. Well, in our case, 156 days into the waiting game, we got our NOA 2 this morning. The 5 month mark would have been this Monday, Dec. 19th.

We were 96 and holding on Igor's list, and 26 and holding on the Berkeley list. My partner had visited his Congressional office yesterday and they were going to initiate the inquiry this Monday, so he called them today and cancelled that plan.

Very happy, relieved, and hopeful for everyone else waiting.

    Merry Christmas to all!

  3. I've been reading that contacting your local congressman to help process your case or move it along quicker is a sure thing, but how come in my situation it hasn't helped at all? I have been in contact with my local congressman since November 17 and it has almost been a full month, and still I am sitting in the same position. How can I push them harder? What can I do differently? Is my local congressman really doing their job?

Just really frustrated and down right now...

My USC is visiting his Congressman's office today, with release form etc. in hand. Our NOA1 date is July 19th, so we're just about to come to the 5 month mark. I'm also very interested to know if this helps. Sure hope so.

I feel very bad about those VJ'ers who have been waiting much longer than me. Looks like CSC has taken an early Christmas break . . .

  4. So, as many of us here probably are in, or have been in long distance engagements, sometimes I just feel like I'm completely alone. Is this feeling normal? How to cope or manage these feelings? I work full time, and I'm at school full time. I spend some time with my family, but every night I am usually alone. I don't have much of a social life right now, which would probably help, but I still have this feeling of solitary confinement when I come home...

Thank you for this post. Many of us here are feeling the same way. I don't think anyone who hasn't gone through this process can fully understand what it is like, and so it is very helpful that we are able to share our feelings here. I am almost 5 months waiting for NOA2, and every day that passes with no word gets more difficult. Weekends are especially tough, as you know there is no progress on the Visa front, and it's generally family time. I try to stay busy, but my life is on hold until I get this Visa. And I am lonely for my mate. I give myself pep talks every day, but I'm running out of steam. Thanks again for your thoughtful post.

  5. Hello Everyone,

I just had a quick question about the Berkley list.

If we are # 63 does this mean it goes in order or does it mean that some pople will be before others and there is actually no real order less the order that people applied?

    Thank you!

    Hi there,

We are number 54 today, so close to you too, and I was wondering the same thing. How is this list different from Igor's processing list? It seems to move very slowly, and I'm wondering what the origin of it is.

Good luck, and thanks for asking this question. Hopefully we will have good news for Christmas (which will be past the 5 month day for me ....)

  6. omg!!!! 127 days since i turned in my papers for my finace and i still havent heard a single thing!!!

have any july filers gotten there approval!!

i just in encouraging words!! i becoming very upset and inpatient!! aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

i just want this nightmare to be over and for my fiance, our daughter and me to be together as 1!

I totally understand. Our NOA1 is July 19th. We wait and wait. Hopefully we will hear before Christmas as well, but I count on nothing in this process.

Hang in there. You are not alone.

  7. ***** Moving from CR-1 to K1 forum as OP is filing for a fiancee visa *****

So you did not sign anything, nor have any annotation in your passport? That is a good sign. You may get some questions about the attempted entry at interview, but looks like they are not accusing you of missrepresentation, which means you should be fine.

I did sign a statement. I said I lied because I got scared. But there is no annotation in my passport.

  8. I am a 56 year old Cdn. woman engaged to a 64 year old US citizen. Here's the background: we met on a dating site 2 years ago. Fell in love instantly. Travelled back and forth to see each other for 5 months, then I moved to the US to be with him in Feb. '10 - to see how the relationship went. Within 2 weeks of arriving in the US he was diagnosed with cancer and in the next 4 months had two surgeries. Pretty terrifying, and it changed everything. I just didn't want to leave him after that.

His recovery took the better part of a year, during which time I travelled back to Canada several times to visit with my family. He gradually regained his health, and we decided to get married in Feb. '11. Our plan was to marry in the US, then file for a green card. However, I made a final trip home to Canada in June '11 and when I tried to return, was stopped at the border in Calgary. When the border guard asked me when I had last been in the US, I told him the date I last entered the US, which was Dec. 28, 2010. He obviously had all my comings and goings on his computer screen, and caught me in a lie. I immediately told him the truth, was interviewed, fingerprinted, and allowed to withdraw my application to enter. There is no stamp in my passport from this experience. I returned to BC to file for the K-1, which I did on July 19, 2011. No NOA2 yet, but hoping it's coming soon.

We have a very good file - lots of documentation to support our relationship, and I am retired, so not looking to work in the US. I am financially secure, and my fiance is semi-retired and completely secure financially as well. Last March I bought a condo in Palm Springs for us to spend winters in. Not sure if this matters or not.

My longest stay in the US was my last one - just over 150 days. I have no criminal record (neither does my fiance).

This past 5 months has been difficult to say the least. I worry constantly that something will go wrong (I'm sure everyone on this site does). So far my fiance is healthy, but once you've had a cancer diagnosis, you never totally relax. We are into the latter part of our lives and don't have endless amounts of time.

My question is this: has anyone had a similar experience, specifically telling a lie and then immediately regretting it and telling the truth? Will this impact our success in getting the K-1? It is something I seriously regret, but I was terrified I wouldn't get back to the US and my partner.

Thank you for your input. Fingers crossed that everything will go smoothly for all.

  9. Hey they fellow Canadians

I have too much time on my hands and use the time to research just about anything to do with this process. I'm most interested in times it takes each couple to go to next task.

I went into the US Consulate site for Vancouver and set up my account for when that beautiful day arrives and I get to book my interview. It says they are booking 21 days. So that is pretty good. So as soon as you have all your needed paperwork and case number then you will be able to plan your getaway for a month later....

And NO we can't book an interview date until we have the elusive case number...

    Happy trails everyone

    Terri

    Hi Terri,

I'm waiting in Comox BC for the K-1. Great news about the wait times in Vancouver right now. We filed July 19 and it already feels like a long wait.

Can you tell me how you were able to set up an account at the US Consulate in Vancouver? I went to the website but couldn't see how to do it.

    Many thanks in advance,

    Shannon
