God rest all the innocent victims of this horrific event, and God help their families cope with their loss and their grief.
And may God eternally damn all of those responsible.

I'm not sure that there is an official death toll - but I do know information about it was suppressed in the US media. With all the collateral fallout from the subsequent sectarian conflict we're probably talking about several million people.
This is nothing new - as I have pointed out on several occasions - the US bombing of Cambodia has been linked directly to the Khmer Rouge takeover. And that killed how many people...?

there's nothing cowardly in pointing out that we are just as violent as isis and, in fact, we created the perfect environment for isis to thrive in. if you want the violence to end, good luck getting there by trying to obliterate a religion. that's the only solution right? since it's not just extremists or isis - it's muslims that the most violent and blood thirsty. what a crock.

My comment goes with the fact that if a Muslim commits any crime, Islam seems to be the forefront, regardless of it's the reason or not. If I murder someone, I'll be the killer Muslim. If a non muslim kills someone we don't call them a killer Christian.
There's corruption in all facets of religion. If the WBC ran this country, I'd shudder to think what atrocities would be committed in God's name.
What are you talking about pussyfooting? When was the last time Christianity came under attack? I don't see member creating sock puppets so they can spam random links of anti-muslim propaganda.

How many deaths have we brought to their shores, how many have they brought to ours? It's not even in the same ballpark.

How many Muslims have been killed and maimed in Iraq after we invaded that country for no good reason and against international law? Several hundred thousand dead and many more injured. How much death and destruction have we brought to "their" shores? And then we want to sit here and wonder why some radical elements over there are pizzed off and try to strike back? Really? Our sh!t don't stink? Is that what you're suggesting?

What is B.S. is you, cheerleading the quote-mining of the ridiculous self-contradictory ####### in any religion and thinking you can manipulate me into fear with it. Maher is an expert at false framing. False dichotomies. This is a perfect example.
I do not have to give respect where it doesn't belong - to logical fallacies. The correct framing is that the religion doesn't matter. What matters is keeping religion out of government. Look at all that LSD-trip type gibberish in Revelations that so fawns over Armageddon. Bring on Armageddon so that Jesus can come back.. It is something like 30% of our country that actually believes that.
That is way, way more dangerous TO ME. and to AMERICANS - than what Maher is concerned about, namely promoting the Greater Israel and getting Americans to hate the enemies of Israel. I will not be duped by the likes of this bigoted entertainer.

Here is what I got out of that long post:
blah blah blah blah blah there is no way there could be an Israeli withdrawal from the WB
We would actually read your posts if you would just get to the point. The 80-pages of reasons not to let go of stolen land and not to stop oppressing the people it was stolen from are not necessary. We get it. You believe that their property "abandoned" 60-70 years ago is actually a 2000 year old "entitlement" to return property that was "abandoned" (which is code for flattened by the roman army right?) 2000 years ago.
Just save time and say it. It's still wrong, but it would be nice to just get to the point.

Of course you believe that. You blow off the Muslims who call for help under the Israeli occupation. You blow off the Christians who call for help under Israeli occupation. You blow off the clerics and ministers who comment that it is becoming a routine experience to be spit on in Israeli streets. You blow off the fact that there are cities and communities in Israel that do not allow or tolerate practice of any other religion. You blow off a legal system that operates two different sets of standards and laws for Israeli citizens - one set for jewish citizens and one set for non-Jewish citizens. You blow off your own soldiers who speak up and describe illegal actions that they are ordered to do in the occupied territories. You blow off limiting food supplies to a whole people based on a "calorie per person" calculation. You blow off seizure of land and property that has been deemed Illegal by the UN. You blow off the historical use of terrorism to create the Israeli state.
You can blow it off, minimize it, and excuse it but you have been unable to deny it.
So naturally - you are not expected to know that people who lived through and survived the Holocaust actually ARE more knowledgeable about practices, legal systems, and treatment of others that led up to the holocaust. I however believe that they are.
I believe that turning in a medal for helping Jews survive the holocaust and issuing a statement condemning Israeli policies in Gaza by survivors of the holocaust speak volumes about what the nation of Israel is and what values that nation represents and they are not ours.
I look at all of these different groups. They are all independent. None of them have anything to do with one another. They all say the same thing. The stories are consistent. That makes you and the sources of your propaganda what?

Sorry. These are not the actions of people who actually care about human rights or human life. These are daily, ongoing practices of the leadership in an inhumane, racist society.
    July 15, 2014
Israel's Deputy Defence Minister Danny Danon stressed that it is important to pressure Hamas and the people of Gaza through cutting off electricity and bombing Gaza's power plant and destroying it completely.
In a radio interview yesterday Danon called on Netanyahu to cut off the electricity supplies that Israel provides to the power plant, and to prevent the flow of fuel, food and basic goods into Gaza.
Do you deny that the deputy defense minister Danny Danon called for this? Is this the action of someone who cares about human life?
    August 23, 2014
Israeli Major-General Giora Eiland has urged that all food and water be cut off to Gaza’s nearly 1.8 million Palestinian residents – a major war crime and precisely the “starve or surrender” policy which the United States has condemned when used in Syria.
Do you deny that General Giora Eiland called for this? Is this the action of someone who cares about human lift?
Do you deny that water, a basic necessity, is rationed to non-Jews and provided in unlimited supply to Jews, in occupied territories? Is this the action of someone who cares about human life?
Israel uses more than 80 per cent of the water from the Mountain Aquifer, the main source of underground water in Israel and the OPT, while restricting Palestinian access to a mere 20 per cent.
The Mountain Aquifer is the only source for water for Palestinians in the West Bank, but only one of several for Israel, which also takes for itself all the water available from the Jordan River.
While Palestinian daily water consumption barely reaches 70 litres a day per person, Israeli daily consumption is more than 300 litres per day, four times as much.
In some rural communities Palestinians survive on barely 20 litres per day, the minimum amount recommended for domestic use in emergency situations.
Some 180,000-200,000 Palestinians living in rural communities have no access to running water and the Israeli army often prevents them from even collecting rainwater.
In contrast, Israeli settlers, who live in the West Bank in violation of international law, have intensive-irrigation farms, lush gardens and swimming pools.
Numbering about 450,000, the settlers use as much or more water than the Palestinian population of some 2.3 million.
You need some more examples of not caring about human rights and human life?

"their viewpoint is obviously uneducated and thus null and void" yeah right
United Nations Security Council Resolution 478, adopted on 20 August 1980, is one of seven UNSC resolutions condemning Israel's attempted annexation of East Jerusalem
Here's a clue: When busloads of students where they are supposed to be have rocks thrown at them, then the perps deserve punishment. When you bus children illegally around territory that you are occupying and oppressing and where you are not supposed to be, then you are endangering children for no purpose but political gain.
We are sick of hearing about incidents that happen in places where the people they happened to have been told NUMEROUS times that they have no legal right to be. We are sick of the stupid idea that you expect to be able to do whatever you want to anyone you want with no consequence.
So the answer to this post is - who cares. Get the children out of east Jerusalem and there will be no stones thrown at them. The difference between what you post and what I post is that the stories of oppression that I post happen outside your borders but the silly stories you post happen in places you are not supposed to be anyway.

Very ominous sign. This is just the help that suffering patients in other parts of the world need. Checkpoints and interrogation before treatment.
In addition to the delay of access of Gaza patients to outside hospitals, mainly Israeli ones, the internal Israeli intelligence agency, the Shabak (Shin Bet) is reportedly pressuring applicants to give information in exchange for permission.
“Upon arrival at the Erez crossing in northern Gaza, the Shabak officers start interrogating patients, demanding them to give the Shabak information about friends and neighbors. When a patient refuses to give such information, the Shabak sends him back to Gaza,” explained Miri Weingarten of Physicians for Human Rights-Israel (PHR), based in Tel Aviv.
Interesting that a doctor in Tel Aviv points this practice out.

So the doctors are going to strip random civilians, hide behind them, and use them as ebola shields?
In video testimony released by the Euro-Mid Observer for Human Rights, Ramadan Muhammad Qdeih recounts how Israeli forces stormed his home in Khuzaa, where some sixty members of his extended family were sheltering in the basement on 25 July, and forced them to act as human shields.

First, the Israeli soldiers shot dead his 65-year-old father Muhammad Qdeih near the entrance of the home as he tried to alert the soldiers to the presence of women and children while carrying a white flag.

Next, says Qdeih, the soldiers forcibly positioned members of his family, including the children, at the windows of his home and proceeded to fire from behind them.

“They ordered us to take off our clothes and tied our hands up,” says Qdeih. “They took us to one of the rooms and used us as shields, making us stand at the windows as if we were looking outside. I was at one window and three children from my family at another. The soldiers then began firing around us.”

For eight hours, Qdeih’s relatives were denied food and water as they were shuffled from one room to another with their hands restrained behind their backs and forced to stand in front of open windows as Israeli soldiers fired from behind their bodies.

I wonder who they think they're fooling with they use medical treatment for a "photo-op" while systematically withholding medical care from their neighbors just to demonstrate that medical care, in addition to food and water, can also be used as a tool to oppress people whose property you want to occupy. Is up to date medical equipment in the occupied territories also a matter of national security? Who do you think is responsible for people in occupied areas? Let's review a couple of the Geneva Convention rules.
Article 33. No persons may be punished for an offense he or she has not personally committed. Collective penalties and likewise all measures of intimidation or of terrorism are prohibited. In World War II, the Germans carried out a form of collective punishment to suppress resistance. Entire villages or towns or districts were held responsible for any resistance activity that occurred in them. (my comment - that practice sure sounds familiar)
Art. 56. To the fullest extent of the means available to it, the Occupying Power has the duty of ensuring and maintaining, with the cooperation of national and local authorities, the medical and hospital establishments and services, public health and hygiene in the occupied territory, with particular reference to the adoption and application of the prophylactic and preventive measures necessary to combat the spread of contagious diseases and epidemics. Medical personnel of all categories shall be allowed to carry out their duties.
Do you need that interpreted for you? That doesn't mean dole out permits for medical care whenever one feels like it - that means providing medical equipment and facilities. If you can't do that there, you don't have any business flying anywhere else and pretending you can do it there. My view is that when a country does not follow the rules they have fairly earned and deserve a no-fly zone where they don't fly anywhere until they do learn to follow them.

“We had been waiting for an urgent referral to an outside hospital for the past six days, until he died today,” said Dr. Ismail Yassin Monday, in response to the death of one more patient at the Gaza Children’s Hospital.
Tamer al-Yazji, a 12-year-old chicken pox patient, died on Monday on his hospital bed after his referral to an Israeli hospital had been delayed.
Dr. Yassin explained that Tamer’s condition had gotten worse over the past few weeks, showing symptoms of blood problems in his brain, so the ill-equipped hospital requested his urgent referral for an MRI scan and follow-up, which meant accessing medical care facilities in Israel or Egypt.
Working in less than ideal conditions with fuel supplies cut and medicine not entering the strip, Gaza Children’s Hospital is currently hospitalizing a number of patients, including many infants and 10 cases of cardiac disease patients.
Director of the hospital’s infant intensive care unit, Dr. Shirin Abed, said that her unit provides care to a number of infants who are in bad need of medication.
Ahmad Abu Nada, a 21-day-old infant, Dr. Abed said, has been suffering from poor suckling since was born and that his condition is getting much worse.
“This baby’s condition has been deteriorating and unless he is referred for [outside] medical care, his brain could be damaged in the course of few days or few weeks, so we ask for help. We filed a request to the concerned authorities for his referral, yet we have not received any response,” she stated.
According to the health care workers at the hospital, usually the Palestinian Health Ministry in Gaza determines to where a patient will be referred: either to the Israeli Hadasah hospital or to the Palestinian-run al-Maqased hospital in East Jerusalem.
Now that the Hamas government has been in complete control of the Gaza Strip since June, the processing of such medical care transfer requests is taking longer than ever.
Earlier this month, a breast cancer patient died as her entry to Israel for treatment was delayed.
According to hospital officials, Gaza hospitals in general lack basic equipment such as MRI scanners or dialysis machines; therefore, many cases are being referred to outside Gaza every month.

I'd say the folks running things in the West Bank (Fatah) have tried to work towards peace with Israel. What have they gotten in return. Zip, zilch, nada. Not only that, Israel has continued to expand the illegal settlements in the West Bank. Continued the military occupation etc. etc. That's what happens when you try to have peace with Israel, you're rewarded with more theft of land. I'm sure the folks in Gaza saw this, and now there's Hamas to deal with.

And in Today's News: The poor, oppressed, peaceful Israelis take advantage of the lull in fighting to scoop up some more "abandoned" West Bank Palestinian land (that same West Bank that they withdrew from years ago ahem wink wink).
I am quite sure that they will be "acting in self-defense" someday to keep it.
Israel converts West Bank land to state-owned
August 31, 2014 2:40pm The Israel Defense Forces Civil Administration announced that it would recognize nearly 1000 acres of land in the Gush Etzion bloc as state land.
The Gva’ot settlement in the western area of Gush Etzion is located on the land, adjacent to the Alon Shvut settlement. Gva’ot was built without zoning permits from the military.
Gva’ot originally was established as a military base in 1984.
The announcement could create a contiguous boundary from Gva’ot, through the settlements of Kfar Etzion and Beitar Illit, to the Green Line, according to Peace Now, which in a statement called the declaration “unprecedented in scope.”
“By declaring another 4,000 dunams as state land, the Israeli government stabs President Abbas and the moderate Palestinian forces in the back, proving again that violence delivers Israeli concessions while nonviolence results in settlement expansion,” the Peace Now statement said.
The organization in the past revealed that the Ministry of Housing had an initial plan to build 15,000 units to establish a city in Gvaot.
Ten families currently live on the site and more than 500 housing units currently are under construction.
The IDF said there is no Palestinian claim on the land, but objections against the decision can be filed for the next 45 days.

True that. The leash needs to be yanked until at a minimum borders are set and I mean agreed on by both sides, not dictated by the occupiers. A "deal" with Israel is like this: We will give you 30% of the land we took IF you also disarm and leave yourselves to our mercy.
How stupid would anyone be to take a deal like that?
