  1. I sent a package registered mail, but not certified, which had my husbands wedding band in it, customs had to declare it valued at over $300....It was last at the Chicago box also, I went to the post office, and was told that because it was not certified, there was nothing they could do.... I great loss on my end, any request for reimbursement of the ring has not been answered and they said it is not a certified or insured for that reason, I had assumed it was insured due to the cost it was to send it, only to find out...it wasn't. This was sent back in March, and never received, Good luck.....

I know many of you have remarked you have NEVER had issues with your packages and mail through postal service to Nigeria. But here I am again Lord help me. Small box wwith two phones sent May 16th. Last trace confirm USPS was in Chicago. Checking each day on the Nigerian Postal EMS site but nothing yet. I only sent First Class which is slow slow. But here we are June 7th 21 days later.

Any advise what to do where to go to find this if I can. Thanks :blink:

  2. I would suppose it would depend on how you sent it....registered or regular mail. Also when you sent it. I sent mine registered mail and I received a text message within a few days and received my NOA1 within a week to 10 days. It doesn't take long. You will know especially if you mailed a check. Has the bank cashed the payment yet?

Does anyone know how long it usually takes to get a 1st response after sending the initial I-129 fiance visa package? I have been checking my mail every day (of course! :), but haven't heard anything yet. I am anxious to receive our number or whatever it is that we are supposed to get so that we can start tracking our progress. Thanks!

  3. Ask your current employer for a letter of employment, stating your start date, rate of pay and hours worked weekly. Also keep copies of your pay stubs. The embassy will need proof of ability to provide and these will show that you currently work and have an income. They will not just take your word for it.

I have my W2 and tax return filed from last year with my previous employer. That's covered.

My question is do I need to show proof from my present employer that I am presently employed with a new company or does the embasy take my word for it as listed on my 864EZ under conditions of perjury? In other words will they need proof from my new job that I work there?

  4. You will need the actual marriage certificate in order to file for a marriage visa. This you will get at the registry. Be prepared there is a waiting period between apply for the license, I believe 21 days before you can actually do the marriage ceremony at the registry to receive the marriage certificate, unless of course you know someone inside....smiles

Obviously the poster was unaware of what a naturalization was, it was rather rude for u to post what u posted, people come here for questions and advice, not for smart Alec comments from members. Suggesting comitting suicide even in jest, in some cultures could be a serious insult.

    quote name=Brother Hesekiel' timestamp='1332813601' post='5250655]

    The quickest way would be:

    1) commit suicide.

    2) ask her creator for a quick rebirth, but not as an American

    3) find a way to emigrate to the United States

    4) once eligible, file for naturalization.

  6. Becoming married usually does nothing to alleviate the reason for the denial. That has to be well understood and then corrections made in order to get beyond that. Moscow is not considered a hard Embassy but all the warnings about the possible questions and the form they may made to your fiance have to be well understood and rehearsed; answering inappropriately could be bad. But since she has been here and you guys have a lot of time spent with each other, you should be fine.

Lagos is a well known hard Embassy, especially for K-1s. Also if the USC is older than the foreign fiance, that is a red flag to them.

We were denied in Lagos on Feb 16,2012 for immigration purposes only after knowing and communicating with each other for more than 4 years. I arrived in Lagos the afternoon of his interview afterwards. I went to the embassy 3 days later and spoke to the CO who interviewed him and was told due to my not being Nigerian and our cultural backgrounds the generally deny K1 visas for that reason as for immigration intentions only. I was told it would be best I marry my fiance and apply for a CR1 and would have better results because it shows more truthful to them. SO.......marriage suggestion in this embassy may very well be the best option......

  7. You need ID to board an aircraft. I would think the passport would do it. When I am outside the US, that is my ID, as a USC.

How about filling out your timeline and the rest of your profile so that we can answer your question better.

What I am gathering from his question is that he/she is not an American but in the USA with an expired visa and a new passport without a valid visa inside and wants to know if they can travel on domestic American flights without it. I may be wrong. It would help to have more information, it is kind of vague....

  8. When I went there were a number of shots I had to get, typhoid, another hep a shot, yellow fever. You will receive a international shot record that is usually on a yellow card with dates. You should definately bring that with you. Also, yes you need a visa to go to Nigeria. As far as the bank card issue, I was able to use my Bank of America card in ATM's in Nigeria, as long as it had the VISA logo. I did not have an alert on my card. But I would definately check with your bank before leaving. My banks website told me locations of ATM's in Nigeria that accepted my card. You will be paid in naira's however.

Ok first I would not advice you to attempt putting your card in any machine. If its an ATM card issued i nNja fine but CC from here? hmmm I dnt know abt that but I would not.

You should not have problems at the airport if someone is coming to pick you up. the atmpshre is nice , a bit slow and maybe lil backward depending on what you are used to ( unless things have changes since oct 2010 when I last traveled,). The customs officer may ask you to give them something for the holidays...its entirely up to you, dnt let anyone pressure you.

you will need N100- N200 to rent one of the carts to wheel your luggage out of the airport.

The amount to take depeneds on your length of stay and what you will be doing but whatever you decide make sure you have at least $500 kept at the buttom of your luggage to be used only in extreme emeregncy in case you get stranded.

you do not need an international phone as roaming may be costly for you. with N5k you can get very basic Nokia phone and then load up calling credit to make calls.

Now hotels in Ibadan? i canot help with that..I am sure there will be but the proximty and to where you ur fiance will be may be an issue

vaccine? I dnt think she needs it but verify with your healthcare provider.

  9. I've been reading so much about damages and mutilation of the CON when sending to the Dept of State for the passport application. I didn't apply for a U.S. passport yet. Does anyone know if its okay to have the CON laminated? I am thinking maybe I should do something to protect it. Apparently, it will cause a lot to get a new CON.

    Thanks for any info.

NO....It is not O.K. to laminate your Certificate of Citizenship..... They tell you this at your Oath Ceremony, It will become null and void, and you will have to apply for a duplicate which will end up costing you money.....I would suggest, putting it in a picture frame with a glass casing for protection, or a clear notebook sleeve......that is used to protect documents..... Congrats and good luck!!!!

  10. The problem I was having with my cellphone record is that when ever my fiance calls me his number never comes out as NBR Unavailable, it use to show up but since I changed my contract to unlimited in t-mobile it doesnt show up....When the time comes for me to send my fiance prove show I just send it to him like that and have him explain how since it is an international number it doesnt appear on my phone record..

I have Tmobile Unlimitted plan and most times than not his number shows, only on rare occasions does it come up unavailable, so I would check to see if it is an issue with his phone or his company.

  11. I wonder about this too....my Tmobile bill has both my number and my daughters number so the bill is very long....I was wondering if omitting the pages from her phone number and log would cause a problem because the pages are numbered......It just seems pointless to send extra pages that have nothing to do with us.....

So with that being said, I pose the same question? Is not really about the amount/length of time I am referring to cos I have almost a years worth of phone records. But what I am wondering is if it is "Necessary" to send every page that comes in the months phone bill cos some of mine have 12-15 pages.

    Thanks

  12. I had an overpayment with the IRS in 2009 for $3500. I am currently on a payment plan and it hasn't been an issue in this process. I am guessing the only problem would be not having the IRS tax returns when showing ability to support. So, I don't know if they actually do check with the IRS and as far as lexus nexus...because I used to be a bill collector, it is used basically to skip trace a person to find out telephone numbers and addresses of people, and where they hold accounts. LEXUS doesn't show the amount you hold with any company.

  13. I know he was only a child, I know they just say what they think...but that was my point- why would a kid of that age even consider the race of a little toddler? I just have never seen that and as a teacher myself, I have come across a LOT of children. The way the mom acted gave us the impression that she knew exactly where this was coming from.

Yes, maybe I am looking to much into it but remembering my sons confused look, I know that some day we will have to teach him about races and where he is coming from.

See, I grew up in "white Germany" and I guess I can say majority of germans are pretty "colorblind", so I never had to deal with this kind of issue, while my husband is totally used to this kind of scrutiny. He always warned me that we would have to deal with peoples comments about our children and I always brushed it off as "it can't be that bad" until someone referred to him as "cappuccino". I know it wasn't meant to be mean but I know that same person would never refer to a white kid as "milky", kwim?

It's hard to ignore those comments but I'll try...*sigh*

Maybe the Germans in Germany are "color blind" however, my grandmother who is german, has never recognized me or accepted me as her grandchild, even though my mother and father were married when they had me. My mother being black...She would never accept me....However she does accept my white sister....from a second marriage....So....things are different here and you will learn that although the U.S. is a melting pot....some people are still set in their ways....

  14. I think you are looking too much into this incident. I mean, come on, it was a 8-10 year old kid and kids say the darnest thing all the time because they say what they think with unbridled honesty. Instead of feeling slighted, I would feel disappointed since the mom did not use this as a "teaching moment" for her son and correct him. Since your son in bi-tri-racial, you will come across these kind of situation more often than others, and you will have the perfect opportunity to teach your son to be sensitive & socially intelligent, unlike this other kid.

I agree 100%. Myself being bi-racial....mother is african american and father is german and native american. I am fair skinned. The child was young and really the comment wasn't really a racial slurr....but I agree that the mother should have addressed accordingly. Kids see what they see...through the eyes of a child, its us as parents that need to address and educate our children. Just as she should have taken the time at that moment to educate her child...you will find down the line...that you will need to educate your child. Alot of times...parents like my mother and father , I am sure did not consider what I as a child would face...but because my mother taught me to be proud of what I am, and that I am the beauty of two races and two loving parents....that was all that was important....and if it hadn't been a comment on skin color, it could have been a comment on any number of other things..... Do not allow a CHILD's comment to bother you.....After all a child is just a child.....

  15. Ok, I see everyone talking about R/T tickets from the country the immigrant will be coming from, but my question is this.....Can a R/T ticket be purchased from the U.S. because it is cheaper for them to fly here and use only the ticket returning to the U.S? Example.....My finance flying with Arik air from Nigeria would pay approximately $2000 U.S. for a ticket one way to JFK, however, if purchased as R/T from JFK to Lagos, and back it would cost just $1000 U.S.....Now would that be an issue?

Buy the cheapest; it doesn't matter to Immigration.

  16. I know this may be a stupid question, however, i am seeing that some K-1 petitioners posted that their interviews were set by the NVC for their interview at the consulate. However, I am wondering how it works for interviews for the visa's in Nigeria. Are they set by the NVC and interview dates given when called?, or once we have a case number, do we call the embassy and set the interview ourselves, or wait for an interview date from them? Forgive me, if this has been answered numerous times before, I just can't seem to find the information anywhere. Thanks

  17. My NAO2 says the same thing. Doesn't even list the consulate it was sent to......I have been calling the NVC and they don't have my file on record either and its been two weeks. I suppose at this time patience is a virtue.......

Oh okay, thank you :) Will e-mail NVC now. Was there any case like this before?

  18. My mistake, lol....the $10 difference would become such hot topic.....smiles

I am guessing it would depend on if you are talking about you paying the $350 for the K1 visa application that was done here in the U.S.? If so, then from what I understand you would still have to pay another $350 visa fee through the country in which your loved one is coming. The fee you mentioned is not specified as being the fee for the K1 process, or the fee for the visa and interview process..... All together there would be two fees of $350 for the process...

The I-129F petition fee is $340, not $350. The visa application fee is $350. I-129F petition fee is paid to USCIS, $350 visa application fee is paid to DOS.

  20. You can contact the IRS and ask them for the tax transcripts for those two years. I went to the website and downloaded an auth. form and signed and faxed it back....and i received a shortened version of 1040 tax returns for the last 5 years. Each year was only 1 page long. It did take about two weeks to received. You may be able to do it online, I had to fax it because I moved since my last 2010 filing. Hope this helps. Go to the IRS.gov website

    Hi again,

I forgot to mention that the question is for Romanians who already had their K1 interview. I am Romanian and will go for the K1 interview at the American Consulate in Bucharest.

    Hello!

I have a question for those of you who had the K1 interview. It's about my boyfriend's tax return form(s) that I have to bring at the K1 interview (with the I 134). Is the W2 enough or does he have to sent me the last 1040? Or both? And how can he notarize the 1040 if the original was sent to the IRS? We are still trying to figure this out. He has his W2 from 2009 and 2010 but no 1040. Not sure yet how to get it.

One more question: should he notarize the I-134 form?

    Please share your stories. Thanks.
