You can file the I-130 without your name change. Some people never change their names after marriage. It’s more important that you show proof of joint accounts, bank and tax statements, etc. 

It’s definitely a good idea to see each other as much as possible. It helps to support your case of being a true couple. It’s my opinion that it’s better to make multiple trips and make your length of stay shorter, as opposed to making 1 or 2 trips with a longer length of stay. 

Maybe if you have some assets to add to the application. assets are looked at in thirds, so say you have 60,000 in a bank account they consider that 20,000 available. Assets can be stocks, investments, anything that can be liquidated in a reasonable amount of time, maybe that can help satisfy their requirements. That is sometimes a problem that they look at the whole overall situation, and it could depend on where you live. If you make just the minimum and live in Iowa, there is no problem, but if you are close to the minimum and live in say San Fransisco, CA where a studio apartment is over 2000 dollars a month, more like 2500 a month, your income may not be enough to satisfy them your spouse won't become a public charge. There is no rhyme or reason to their logic, so I feel your pain, and wish you the best of luck.

All April File, 
 
After a 6-month wait, i finally had my N400 interview today at the DC field office in Fairfax, VA. My interview was scheduled at 11:40 am and my husband and I arrived around 11:20 am. We waited for about 10 minutes and my name was called. I asked the officer if I should get my husband,  he said no need and took me to his office.  
 
On to the interview, he seemed not to bother with my GC and DL, I took them out from my backpack and placed them on the desk but he didn't not even take a peek of them. He requested to take picture of me and went directly into the reading test, writing and civil test. 
 
Reading: Who is George Washington
Writing: Washington is the first President
Civil: We elect a US Representative for how many years? 2 years
          In what month do we vote for President? November
          The house of Representative has how many voting members? 435
          Who is the Chief Justice of the US now? John Roberts
          Name one war fought by the US in the 1900s? WWI
          Sorry forgot the last one. Some are difficult questions if you don't study the booklet. 
 
He did a lot of typing when I was answering these questions. He also asked if I ever got arrested or deported by the US government, didn't ask me anything about the traffic citation.  After that he asked me to give my signature on the screen. It almost seemed like the interview was over. I paused him and asked if I could still do a name change (I said no on the form). He said great, we can do it today, right now. I asked if it will delay the oath ceremony as I saw it online that the name change to delay the process by 3-4 months. He laughed out loud (not kidding, he really laughed loudly) and said don't trust the internet. I then asked when i could expect my Oath Ceremony and he answered about 2 months. He then proceed with my name change and asked my to confirm both old and new name on the screen. I think I provided my signature 2-3 times in total at the end. That's it. The total time was less than 15 minutes. I'd say if i didn't request for the name change, it could have ended within 10 minutes.

Naturalization, name and gender marker change all done yesterday in Montpelier VT. Woot!

I was successful in the interview.  Very nice experience.  

If you are filing under the 3-year rule, then interpret every question to be "for the last 3 years" where it says "for the last 5 years" and provide 3 years of data. 

That's if they actually said they denied him because you met on Facebook. Sorry but I have a VERY hard time believing a consular officer would say that.

Although meeting on Facebook may be an issue they will place on your NOIR it would not be the sole reason for the denied visa.   Most likely you just did not satisfy the embassy of a bonafide relationship and will have a chance to prove them otherwise when your case reaches USCIS.   Meeting my husband online was point #1 listed on our NOIR of the embassy claims...and it said "Beneficiary claims to have met the petitioner through an online game" that's it.  No further explanation....but there were 3 other reasons stated in the letter besides this.   In which we have overcome all.   
 
IF your case is returned you'll have a chance to rebut the embassy's claims.  Make sure you document your husbands entire recollection of the interview.  Its extremely important that you know every detail before the NOIR arrives so you can begin working on your case 

I would like to clarify my previous post.  I was trying to say that 2 common reasons spousal visas are denied at the consulate stage is due to doubt about the evidence of a bona fide marriage or when one spouse was not legally free to marry.  I did not intend to imply that was the reason in the OP's case....I apologize for the way I posted..

I think that only works if you get a new passport due to it expiring. I sent an email to the India visa/immigration through Cox&Kings to ask this specific question. They told me that since my name has changed, I am required to apply for a new visa with my updated legal name and that I could not use the valid visa in my old passport. (Assuming I apply for a new passport). My Indian visa is still valid for like 8 years so I hate the thought of having to re-apply, but I just don't think it's worth the risk of being turned away at immigration.

Long story short - I'm gonna have to suck it up and apply for a new passport and new visa. If I travel for work in the future it would be an issue so there's no sense it putting it off just to save a few hundred bucks. 

My husband became a citizen on Tuesday!

Hey everyone! I had my interview today in Latham, NY. My interview officer was extremely nice! He started with the English test, moved on to the civics test, and then the yes/no questions from the application. The only documents he asked to see were my green card and passport. The only other question he asked me was if I had been outside the country since applying, which I had, I gave him the dates of my trip and that was it. I was in his office for ten minutes, he said he was going to recommend me for approval and that I should receive a letter with my oath date in one to two weeks. As I got to my car in the parking lot I got the text alert from USCIS saying they placed me in line for the oath.

I became a US citizen nearly a couple of weeks ago!
 
I got my US passport expedited and received it only after 8 days. Very expensive to expedite but worth it!

Hi everyone! My husband Sam was approved at his interview on 8/14/18. YAY!! 🤩 His appt was for 2pm EST at the Pittsburgh Field Office. They called him in at 2:25pm and he was done at 2:50pm. He had a male IO who put him at ease and made him feel less nervous. The IO commented on his clothes as he lead him through the door and said he looked handsome LOL He started with the civics questions in which Sam passed the first 6. He also passed the reading and writing without issue. They then discussed our relationship and asked about me. They also discussed my husband’s former profession back in his country. He said while our file wasn’t big (surprisingly), it was very organized. After all was said and done, he said he was recommending Sam for approval and typed in his computer and told Sam that he was sending us the letter in the mail for his Oath Ceremony. The letter arrived 2 days later on 8/16 but Sam knew the date a day earlier by checking the DHS website. It was a very positive experience and everyone there was soooo nice! Oh, one thing - while we were sitting in the waiting room waiting for him to be called, they had a monitor that flashed Citizenship information, facts and tips, and some interview questions and answers. So we’re reading the monitor while waiting and up pops a question with multiple choice answers. It was something about children being adopted and multiple choice answers to select from. My husband panics immediately and says OMG I didn’t read anything about that for this interview! He grabs my phone and starts furiously searching Citizenship questions. I look at the screen and it says above that question “Facts/Tips” LOL I told him to calm down it’s just an interesting fact they’re posting! LOL I could easily see how it looked like a possible interview question by the way it was formatted on screen. He was quite relieved to say the least! I’ve updated our dates below.
