If you are incapable of reading directions and don't have time to complete paperwork, a lawyer can do it for you. Or if your fiance has crimes, a drug background, or complicated issues a good lawyer would be of benefit.
I doubt he knows the London process as well as many of us here do. And you hate him so get rid of him. I've started a thread in the UK forum with help for those going through London. Read the whole thing and ask questions there after you have done some studying of it. London 2012- K1s from NOA2 to interview thread
If you're capable of filling out forms, then there's plenty of excellent help here. I personally have done it all myself and never had a problem. Some people just won't read instructions, while others have limited English, and even they are spoon-fed until they find out what they need. I don't mean that in a derogatory way. People help.
She'll need a notarized letter for the interview from the child's father saying the child can leave the UK unless she has court orders showing full custody. There's ways around it, but for now she can work toward getting that. Or post you questions/problems concerning the father in the UK forum.

I'd listen to Nich-Nick and read everything she posts. My fiance, now husband, is from the UK and we were very confused and wanted to hire a lawyer too until I got a quote for 3K!! That was just the fee for him! We scoffed at it, found VisaJourney and Nich-Nick got us through it all along with many other very helpful people on this site. A word to the wise for ANYONE reading this who is thinking of starting the process. It's not too hard. It is intimidating yes but once you get going and you read up on it you really realize it isn't so difficult after all and all the lawyers are doing is what you can do yourself, charge you obscene amounts of money and have NO sway or pull over the USCIS at all. Save the time and headache and press on yourselves
PS. Hi Nich-Nick! Long time no see

Pay for your interview, have your wife and child outside the embassy so they can be ushered in if the CO wishes to talk to them. Tell them that you have decided that it is better for just you to travel to the US and settle in before applying for your wife and child. You can file for them as a green card holder, however the wait for a visa is a few years. If there is any question about your education or qualifications then it is best to lose only one visa fee not 3.

Just an FYI you need $1070.00 ($985 + $85 biometric fee for a total of $1070) for AOS. All the official information found here: http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.5af9bb95919f35e66f614176543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=3faf2c1a6855d010VgnVCM10000048f3d6a1RCRD&vgnextchannel=db029c7755cb9010VgnVCM10000045f3d6a1RCRD
I'm only mentioning it because I can sympathize with your struggle and I'd hate to see you gather the wrong amount and delay the process even more. Remember that the EAD and AP are free and included with that fee so dont forget to file all three together when you do!

Do not fill it out online. You have to send documentation in with it for EACH application. send in your AOS with accompanying documents, EAD application with accompanying documents, and AP with, you guessed it, accompanying documents. All together it is $1070.00. The cost of AP and EAD are free because you are filling for AOS. We clipped each application together to make 3 separate packs in one big USPS envelope. I made sure the check was paper clipped to the top application which was the AOS.

None of this is actually necessary for a K1 through London. Maybe you've been reading suggestions for Manila or another embassy. To get the petition approved you have to have met in person in the last 2 years and be free to marry. You don't have to have an engagement ring or send money or have dates on a photo or visit the UK numerous times. And at the interview in London you don't bring any proof of relationship or engagement or photos or chat logs or your facebook page. They won't even look at them if you do.

little_g got a reaction from cmoore25 in Why did our approved petition go straight to consulate
It says it is going to the consulate yes but it gets there via NVC. So here is what you do. You call the NVC number and give them your case number. That's the number that will begin with LND on your NOA2. Ask them if your case has been received and if yes has it been sent on to London and when. Once you have that info you can track it via DHL by doing this:
The NVC uses DHL to ship their packages. Once you confirm the date that the I-130 was sent, you can go on the DHL website to approximately track your case. There are forums here talking about it but I'll sum it up below.
    1. http://track.dhl-usa...?nav=TrackByRef
    2. In Reference, enter the info as follows:
    EXP DD MMM YYYYA
    EXP is constant
DD is the date before the day the NVC said they shipped the case.
MMM is the three letters representing the month the NVC shipped the case
YYYY is the year the NVC shipped the case
    A is constant
For example, if the NVC says they shipped the case on July 19 2011, this would be entered as "EXP 11 FEB 2009A"
    3. Date range for shipment - From: Enter the date of the day NVC said they sent the case
    4. Date range for shipment - To: Enter todays date
    5. Keep the rest of the fields blank
    7. Once you enter the info, press "Track"
    8. After a while you will see a list of all of the packages that left the NVC today. You need to search for the specific consulate, in your case London.
    9. When you find the shipment the corresponds to your consulate, you will see the tracking number that you can record.
    10. You can then track the shipment from the NVC to your specific Consulate"
Just a little FYI that bit of tracking information there has been circulated on VJ for a while so I cannot take credit for it
ALSO be aware packet three is just a link to a list of forms you need to print out and send back. You dont have to receive it to start filling it all in. You do however have to be sure your case is logged at the embassy and thst you have your medical booked before you can send it back. More info on that here: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/320899-package-3/
Anyway hope that helps. Feel free to ask more questions if you have them and also another great place for you to post is in the United Kingdom forum as every consulate is different peoples answers may not fit your country and so on

So wait a minute... you havent really explained "disaster" but I'll tell you this mate, I'm flying 3,500 miles to marry my fiance (ironically on the 29th) and let me tell you, If she lost her job and changed her mind and told me to go home, I'd be mighty pissed. I've sold everything I own except the clothes and few bits I am traveling with and have given up my flat. I'd be broke, jobless, hurt and homeless and I don't have the two kids she has with her with me! Think on it. You've got 90 days to make it or break it. I don't really know the circumstances as you really didn't say but I wouldn't want to return home to nothing.
