I think that even if someone doesn't believe in the supernatural aspect of what the Bible says, some of it is historical. I took a Biblical Archaeology class in (secular) college. They have used bible passages to find locations of buried cities that existed during a particular time period. Also, religions mentioned being practiced in the old testament, artifacts found prove those in the areas mentioned.
I wouldn't think there would be much doubt as to whether an Abraham existed, but there could be doubt about what he experienced with God. I don't believe the tenets of Islam, yet I don't deny that Mohammad existed. I just don't agree with what he said. How about even further back than Jesus, Buddha. I believe he existed. But I don't agree with his views.
People wrote down things in books to pass along the information. And non-religious(well, I mean not a religious leader) people like Alexander the Great, we rely on written accounts about that. Should we forget every written account of events outside of our own lifetime? No. We can just disagree with what the people experienced.

If people don't believe what the patriarchs said, then of course they find them liars. That's understandable. But to completely deny that they existed at all is a stretch, IMO.

Hello SisterMC - from your point of view stated above, I would have to say 'yes', it would be easy to see how man would create a God to answer questions which they themselves cannot answer.
However, that begets a chicken and egg type of argument. I personally think the other way, that God existed before man and then man refers to God when he realizes that much is beyong his intellectual grasp. In other words, I don't believe God is a creation of man, but rather that man is a creation of God. With the thought that man is a creation of God, I would find it rather narcissistic for any man to demand that God tell us to our satisfaction all the details of our creation...in much the manner that my own Father won't tell me all the details of my creation
    Blessings to you dear,
    Bji

Can to try and not be insulting to those that believe differently than you? What is with your pompous attitude?
I take it you have no scientific, or engineering background. There is a lot of praying going on in Mission Control, that they got it right this time, and when things go wrong, see how many folks begin looking for Divine intervention.

Miscarriage, not still born. There is a difference.
She miscarried and GWB was the only other person around to drive her to the hospital. She asked him to drive her to the hospital and she took the fetus with her in a jar.

Well if you didn't want your own family members knowing what you do or don't believe, you could delete them off of your FB so that you can speak freely. Or you could just be honest and tell them. My husband grew up Hindu and then became a Christian. Do you think over the years it was easy for him to tell his family and then have it spread to all his relatives in India that he rejected their faith? Sometimes you have to be brave.
I am not sure why us religious VJers have to be the ones to be made fun of by you just because you need an outlet. Especially if you say you don't do this in real life. I try to act the same online and offline. People who act completely different online ruin the internet. What I really don't like, which is probably a pride issue, is when anyone tries to portray me or religious people as stupid. I know I am not stupid, and plenty of religious people aren't. I have people I think of as friends who are agnostic or maybe atheists and I try not to write things that would rudely generalize about people who don't believe.

I personally would find it interesting to hear when/why people stopped believing in anything spiritual. Most people around here know where I stand on religion, so I am not about to try to convince anyone of anything in this thread. However, I do think Lord Infamous is obsessed with this topic. Maybe hoping to "help" others believe what he does.
