I should delete my own response. For reasons that aren't all that important, I'm staying in tonight. But I will be up so in a way I will be partying with the voices inside my own head.

It's different in each group of friends I guess. I would expect to pay for my own food and everything if I was invited somewhere to eat for someone else's birthday. I would be shocked if they paid for everyone. Much different than a kids party to me.

You have whatever party your budget affords. It may mean a few people at the house for a cake and a movie or when my BIL did my sisters party the invite came with plane tickets for out of town guests. Spending money you can't afford to impress people who will gossip about your party once they left if a horrible waste of money. If the child is under 3 they really don't give a darn and the money would be better placed in a college fund.

FWIW I don't mean to pile on like this; I am just very pissed off about how some of your mods acted and was even more annoyed by what seemed to me your disconnectedness when one of your mods seemed receptive to my point of view. In the larger picture though I really like your site and that's why I hang out here so much. So you know, thanks - that's the bigger picture and I don't want my distaste over this stuff overshadow my appreciation for what you've done with this site.

Indeed. An eye for an eye is an Old Testament principle, not something Jesus preached.

Jesus neither taught on these type issues nor endorsed it....though a lot of his followers had direct experience with it.

I'd have to disagree with the highlighted section of your post. In Christianity's "embryonic" state it was spread in secrecy away from the State government and it infiltrated the upper Roman society, not with the sword, but by the beliefs of woman married to men of power. There probably isn't an exact time when the religion "picked up the sword" but I'd probably point to the time it became the state religion of the Roman Empire. That is the key for almost any religion and violence. Once a government adopts it, it becomes a weapon.

I don't think she is more influential than the Pope, but yes she is influential. The Pope influences people all over the world. Palin seems to mostly irritate people in other countries, if they even care to think about her, right?

I'm a Christian and I consider myself open-minded and I look forward to honest discussions. The topic of this thread was initially very interesting. It seemed like a valid question.
However, I have to conclude that the original question was merely a way to start a religion bashing thread.
Throughout this thread I have read countless insults to religious people but the most remarkable thing to me was the statement about non-believers not being immoral. Maybe it's just me, but if people are going to be this insulting then I feel they must cede the moral high ground to others. Unless one considers being arrogant, rude and offensive to be evidence of high moral character.
Point awarded to believers of all faiths for just being nicer people.
