  1. As I've seen happen to others, we received our biometrics screening appointment notification in the mail the day after the appointment. I immediately called and got a friendly person who filed a request for a reschedule and got the the whole "you should hear back from us in 30 days for the reschedule" message. In reading through similar posts, it seems like just doing a walk-in is advisable because we may be waiting forever to get this rescheduled. The only issue is we live 3+ hours away from where the local office is and I can't easily take time off work to take my husband just to get rejected for a walk-in appointment. What are our chances if we just show up? We're through the only service center in Maine if that helps. Thanks!
  2. Thank you for the information! That is another item that is unclear. The NVC provides information on what cases they’re opening based on when they were sent from the services centers. And then again they say what cases they’re working on based on what day they opened the cases. But what I don’t quite get is that many visa categories say the time it takes to go from the NVC to the embassy is based on when the embassy has appointments available. Is that the case for K-1s as well? IE, all of our cases may be “processed” by the NVC on a similar schedule but then people who are going to be interviewed by busy embassies may have their cases sit around at the NVC until interviews become available. Is that true?
  3. Yes we got our 2nd notice and are waiting to hear from the NVC. I looked at timelines and it looks like the wait is over a month from 2nd notice to when they “open” our file and, I assume, send the email.
  4. Thank you! This part of the process seems very confusing and the guides skip it. They tell you to contact NVC to get your number but they never explain who gets the “regular” notification and how.
  5. I apologize if this has been asked before. Searching got me no where. The instructions for when the National Visa Center contacts the beneficiary with instructions say that the contact may be by email or mail. Is there a default? Does it depend on what country the beneficiary will be interviewed in? I’m just trying to prepare my fiancé for how he will receive the instructions.
  6. Oh how cool! He’s from BA but working in Cordoba.
  7. That’s really fascinating! This is all brand new to me. He’s from Argentina so I’m assuming the pool will be pretty large.
  8. Thank you! I know the chances are slim (wish I knew about this last year so he could have applied then as well, but this whole immigration this is totally new to me and my family) but if no one applied because their chances were slim, no one would win. 🙂 worth a shot as long as it doesn’t hurt anything.
  9. As in, if our k-1 doesn’t get approved, we’ll get married abroad and file for spouse visa. No, I would not relocate unless this process drags on for a decade and my kids are out on their own. Then I’d consider it for part of the year if work allows.
  10. Yeah, that’s what we’re prepared to do. In the meantime it sounds like we can take a shot at the lottery and it won’t hurt. I figure my bad luck in life needs to pay off sometime lol
  11. We considered that as we’re online gamers and met that way so it would be appropriate, but it’ll be another 6 months until I can see him again in person to meet the qualifications for a zoom wedding to be acceptable (again, single mom and expense) so that would mean restarting the visa process 9 months+ after submitting our first visa. So almost a year of wasted time. Only reason we would consider that is if we were told outright we have zero chance of fiancé visa getting approved.
  12. I’m a single mother with minor children, family, a house, and a good job. Uprooting and living in South America for a few years is not going to happen. The documentation to get married outside the US is cumbersome and we’d both like my children there. I know the green card lottery is a small chance, but we’d like to give it a shot as long as it won’t put another red flag on our existing visa application.
  13. My fiancé and I just submitted a K-1 package in July (yes I know going the spouse route is better but we have family and logistical reasons why we couldn’t do that). Can he apply to the visa lottery (he meets the qualifications) while our K-1 is pending? At the rate things are moving it feels like the timelines would be similar and he would have a full green card instead of dealing with AOS once he’s here on the K-1. We have a few red flags that make me panic our K-1 will be denied (large age difference, mostly online relationship due to Covid, government restrictions and a 500 day waiting period for a tourist visa interview, prior marriages) and if it won’t affect our K-1 review/approval, I would feel more comfortable if we had both in process even though the lottery is a long shot. i just don’t want to do anything that would add yet another red flag to our file for the K-1.
