  1. Thank you for making this post. I really resonate with this. I just had to split up from my ex-husband from who had the same traits... I am waiting on USCIS to let me know if I can remove myself from his i-751 petition that we filed about a year ago. I've felt so bad for the last few weeks but reading this is helpful... and thank you @Jeanne Adil for saying that we shouldn't feel embarrassed to have loved someone. He gave me unbearable stress, and panic attacks, all while he mentally manipulated me so he didn't have to work and thought I would support everything for the rest of his life. It was awful and i'm just glad I can move on. AFAIK he is in his home country and hasn't tried to come back to the US. It was a major loss on his part and I'm blessed to be able to have a support system around me and be able to move on and make my life better, and get back to who I was.
  2. Update: we were documentarily qualified a few days ago We are now in waiting for an interview date at the embassy in SJ
  3. No, no immigration, just visiting us (family) and sight seeing. She will stay with us though. This is helpful, thank you!
  4. Hi, My husband and I want my retired MIL to come to the US to visit us. She is from Costa Rica and already has a valid tourist visa in her passport. What can we do to make sure her interaction at customs goes smoothly? I read that she should definitely have a round trip ticket. Is there anything else? Does she need to have money on her for instance, to show the officer if he asks? What types of questions might they ask her? She will be traveling with her son (my husband) who is a permanent resident with a green card and a valid i-751 extension letter showing that he is in the process of getting a 10-year green card. It makes me a bit nervous that they might both get questioned since his GC is technically expired and I don't know if officials in customs would try to ask him more questions or delay him. Thank you.
  5. Hey all, an update to my most recent post up there... NVC had rejected a few documents and ask that I resubmit them. They also asked for a few more that I did not provide the first time around (was not asked to initially). The main issue is my stepdaughter's birth certificate - they think it was a bad scan. I think it may be a code on the bottom right of the document that is hard to read. However, I just learned that the birth certificates are all digital deliveries now - and when I go to buy a new birth certificate, the PDF attachment that is sent from the Costa Rican government's system has bad resolution for that small code, from the start. It was not altered - the resolution just makes it nearly impossible to read. The customer service at NVC said it was a bad scan (and also told me to get a certified translation) so now I'm wondering what do I do - because I have a feeling they will come back to me again for the same exact issue, and I'm not sure how to explain or resolve it if the government's digital delivery is so low-resolution that even I can barely read it (I CAN read it and translate it but it's pretty hard and took me a few times of staring at the document to figure it out...) Anyone else having trouble at NVC for something similar? Should I call NVC, submit an explanation when i get the chance, or do something else... ?
  6. Is there a forum topic for Costa Rica filers waiting for an embassy interview date? We submitted and paid all documents to NVC for my stepdaughter (husbands daughter) in July 2021 and still no communication on an interview date. NVC hotline hasn't really been helpful.
  7. When I did my husband's immigration (also from Costa Rica), we had no issues or delays. Despite COVID, my stepdaughters i-130 got approved in the normal time frame as well so I don't have a ton of worry that NVC will be delayed or hugely backlogged for Costa Rica, but who knows. I appreciate everyone's advice, this is really helpful. I think it makes sense for me to start paying the fees and gathering the documents for this stage now.
  8. Hi there, We received approval for my husband's daughter's i-130 application a few days ago and are very excited and relieved especially that it came relatively on time, and no huge delays. So we are now at the NVC stage and can begin paying the applicable fees. However, my stepdaughter would like to finish out her year of school first before starting a new school year in the US. We would want her to immigrate probably summer of next year (2022) and this will also give us time to prepare the house and find an appropriate school for her (we may have to apply to a few schools in the area and this could take a few months as well as some planning). Is this feasible? Do we request some extension from NVC or just... not pay the fee or do anything with the application until we are ready? I logged into the system this morning to view it so it should show that I at least opened the case and am active inside the portal (Because I'm not sure if inactivity could result in a cancellation). Has anyone else done this?
