  • Our Story
I live in Sri Lanka, and she lives in the United States. We met online in October, 2013. We were friends at first, and we got along really well because we had so many things in common. It was really fun talking to each other every single day. Eventually, our friendship grew into something special, and we fell in love without even knowing. It was a big decision to start a long distance relationship with someone we have never even met. But we were determined to give it a shot. After 3 years since we met online, we met in person for the first time as we planned since the beginning of our relationship. I went to USA to see her and I stayed there for 12 days which was the most amazing time that we both had ever had. It was a stormy night when she came with her mom to pick me up from the airport. I had to wait for more than 2 hours at the airport until she arrived. I was standing there as the car was arriving. She was on the phone with me to make sure where I was, and I waved my hand as the car was getting closer. The car stopped right in front of me, and the next thing I knew was that she got out of the car and ran towards me as the door was still opened and jumped on me, hugging me so tight as her feet were off the ground, as her mother was still in the driver’s seat, shocked, with the car engine still on. We waited 3 years for that moment, and it could not have felt any better than that. We had the most wonderful time together for 12 days. We could not believe ourselves, the chemistry, the connection and the bond that we both had, even though it was our first time being physically together. Her family was in shock at first, but after a few days, they started to understand how truly we were in love and they were really supportive. I proposed to her on our 3rd year anniversary at her favorite park to her surprise, and she said “yes”. It was heart breaking when we had to say goodbye. We both could not help crying as we were sitting and waiting outside the boarding gate as we were saying the most dramatic and emotional goodbye of our lives. I returned to Sri Lanka and we went back to our same old long distance relationship once more. It was painful at first to get adjusted to it, but we knew what we had to do. We were stronger than ever. We decided that we were ready to move on to the next stage, so we started our K1 visa journey a few weeks later as we submitted the fiancé petition.
