Ties to Canada

Hi Everyone,

Luckily my fiance, Artie, is coming to visit for the long weekend next friday! It's been way too long since I've seen him Now that he's an intended immigrant, we want to prove ties to Canada for him so he can get through the border with minimal problems.

The thing is, he's living in a house thats totally paid for and its under his grandpa's name, so no mortgage or anything under Artie's name. Also, he does not have any loans or cars. Lucky guy, huh? Anyways, the only thing I can think of to prove ties to Canada are the return ticket and a letter from his employer. Anyone have an example letter from an employer we can set up? Does it just have to state: "Yes he works here and we expect him back to work on this date"?

Does anyone else have any ideas of what we could use to prove he'll return to Canada? He has a bank account and credit cards, but I don't know how that'd help prove ties when he doesn't owe them anything :/

I always bring:

- letter from employer on real letterhead with their business card attached (see sample below)

- recent pay stubs

- bank statements

- apartment lease

- utility bills

- complete case file (to show I'm doing things the correct way if asked)

- return ticket/itinerary (always)

Here's my letter:

To whom it may concern,

This letter is to confirm that <Name> is currently employed at <Company> as a <Title>.

<Name> will be visiting the U.S. from <Start Date> to <End Date> and will be returning to work on <Work Date>

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me further.

I don't know if these items would be useful, but you could try them:

- Phone bills (if he has a phone line in his name)

- Letters from people he knows stating that he's planning to return to Canada, possibly for a particular event

- A letter from his grandfather stating that his personal belongings are still in the house

- Doctors' or dentists' appointment cards if he has upcoming appointments scheduled

Not once and I visit every 3 weeks. My accordian folder I bring with me with everything in it was getting heavier each visit.

I was asked a bunch of questions the second last visit after the officer asked if I had applied for a visa and I told them I was a K3 applicant that only a real applicant would know the answers to (e.g., where did you file? why did you file at that service centre? where did it go after it was approved? including the usual, what do you do for a living, etc.). I offered to show any evidence he wanted to see, but the officer said he believed me, told me to always have all that info with me when I was visiting and wished me a good weekend. I was not questioned in secondary.

The last visit (this past weekend) the officer already knew I was a K3 applicant when he scanned my passport and just asked if I was visiting my husband and commented about how much it must suck being separated. He asked me if I had my interview date yet (I told him the date) and wished me good luck and a good weekend.

During my cr-1 process I travlled every month to DC and never asked for anything. I packed light, and only answered their questions, and was very polite

Lease

Military leave pass

return ticket (duh)

if he does not have a mortgage or lease, he can bring copies of current hydro bills, cable, stuff like that.

All of this is to show that a person hasn't just picked up and abandoned everything in Canada to go live in the US with their spouse. The letter from the employer saying he is just out on vacation will probably be most helpful, but bring anything else that may prove ties as well.

I know this isn't exactly the question, but I've been asked for proof of ties to the United States just for visiting my fiancee in Canada and we haven't even started the visa process, so neither one of us is an "intended immigrant." We're just vistors. This was last time I went to Canada (Vancouver) though, and it was right before Christmas and my plane arrived just before midnight, so maybe Customs & Immigration were on edge from all the traffic earlier and having to be kept up that late. Whatever the case, definitely keep ties to your home country with you.

Here's a question though... Im getting married civily next time Im going down to see my fiance, in a week and a half. And we'll have a wedding ceremony back in Canada sometime this autumn. Is this second ceremony something I shouldn't talk about in any type of application/interview.

Nortmally i was asked --Business or pleasure? i stated pleasure. They would then ask, who I was seeing? I would state my girlfriend. Which she was. We got enaged and marriedat same trip, lol . Later when asked to whom I was seeing I would state my wife, and I would be returning on such a such date. I answered thier questions honestly, was polite nad appeared relaxed!!

One time my husband got denied entry to the US because he only had $5 US cash on him and they said he wouldn't be able to "support himself" on his visit. LOL! He didn't bring any bank info either. All he had was a return ticket and $5! Haha. Of course, he had his debit card, which is how we use our money, we hardly ever carry cash! But they still turned him away. ugh.

I would also suggest having his grandfather write a letter and have it notarised stating that he lives in the house under his name.

Oh yeah, the cash thing. I always brought about $200 USD in cash on each visit and had about $200 Cdn in my wallet at the same time just in case since well, you know, why would someone have $200 in Cdn cash if they're just going to stay in the U.S.?
