My computer got deadly virus/worm. It pissed me off. What should I do?

To all of you here,

This is my situation:

When I was reading on-line I received a a link-message from one of my bestfriends there Phils. where I lived before. We had chatted sometimes especially when I feel bored here in US. At that time, I clicked that link without hesitation but what the hell...it was with virus and it made my computer not working well. I thought she sent a link to me with the information as updates in the Philippines. I certainly believe that her computer has virus too without her notice. And I was being affected with this. I supposed not to take a chance by opening it if it was not from her. But I was too late. My computer has already affected with thhis kind of worm.

Now, my problem is that I could no longer access the task manager (TASKMAN.EXE) which allows me to shut down programs no longer responding. Whenever I click the task manager it appears "The task manager has been disabled by the administrator.". It made me pissed off what's going on. We (My husband and I) did not disable the task manager, apparently the virus did. We haven never been able to fix this problem because we don't know...

Does anybody know this?

Hello there, thank you for the quickly reply but the RUN under START on the computer is no longer there for it's gone. It might be the virus which took/block it away...oh!..no..

Left click start and then run. you need a virus protection in that computor. I checked google for the next philfest by you but it isnt listed yet.

use system restore to restore to a point before you installed the virus.

As an FYI to everyone who has chat friends from the Philippines... Internet cafes are very popular there and I've found that some of the cafes aren't administered (protected) very well. I used to get Yahoo instant messages from chat friends including links all the time. The person sending them doesn't know. I usually replied telling them to get their system looked at or inform the cafe that they have a problem.

Word of advice: Use Firefox or Opera instead of Internet Explorer to browse the internet.

pretty much any of them will do the job just fine. Some free, some cheap and some $50-$60+. I'm not naming names because there's always someone who has something to say about all of them.

Bottom line, just get one and keep your pc/windows up to date.

We have been using AVAST ant-virus program but still the virus got through.

I JUST GOT OVER A DEADLY PROBLEM ONMINE AS WELL I WENT TO THE SYMANTEC WEBSITE ITS FROM NORTON AND I DOWLOADED A VIRUS PROTECTION IT COSTED ME LIKE 59.00 BUT IT WAS FIXED IN A MATTER OF 30 MIN.

that sounds like a virus i read about that specifically targets instant messenger services. best thing to do - if sent a link, ask the other person if they sent a link. if they didn't, then their computer is infected with that virus. and going to that link will infect the recipient's computer.

Yes, I already fixed it. I did scanning for the virus and I found virus 4 times then put in the chest folder after that finally erased. I also did restoring for how many times but still didn't work because the RUN under START didn't get back or it was not there still. I suppose to run the computer but couldn't...Besides, I also took some advices from others on how to run it but still failed.
