Travel Insurance for Brits

DA,

A quick question, if I may. I'm to fly out to the US on my K-1 visa on Thursday (12th). WOOOOO!

Aside from the manic rush to get everything sorted, I've been trying to cover my suitcases during my one-way trip to the US (as I'll be moving in with my fiancée when I arrive).

As these cases will contain all my worldly possessions, I really need to insure them. I've tried to get travel insurance, but no-one will cover me because I'm not going back to the UK and so am not seen as a resident.

Does anyone have any advice on this?

Many thanks in advance,

Mark

You're right -- you can't get travel insurance because you're emigrating. I have no clue what you can do. Have you checked expat sites to see if there are any companies kicking around?

Hola!

FYI, I managed to a 'flight only' one trip insurance for my flight - £8 from www.statravel.co.uk. A really good deal, to be honest.

There you go -- bargain! Be warned they don't pay out for any breakages so wrap them up well. I actually had one thing broken (because security opened it, and didn't wrap it back up properly) and got reimbursed for it after about 4 months, so that's worth remembering too.
