As far as I know, they don't automatically refuse your petition based on those convictions. They do however, forward your police records to your fiancee when she goes in for her intervew, so she is made fully aware of what she is getting herself into. I'd advise you to let her know what has gone on in your past asap so it's not a big shocking suprise when she gets to the interview.

See items 4 and 9 on the I-129f instructions.

Also, you may want to read this: http://www.uscis.gov/graphics/lawsregs/han...IMBRA072106.pdf

I only offer advice - not even legal. Just the plain and simple kind.

luvalimey speaks the truth as near as I understand it. The biggest issue for you will be that you have been honest and up front with your fiance. If that is the case, then one ancient instance of DV should not necessarily be an approval killer.

Good luck on your journey!

Convictions are not grounds for denial unless you are a multi petitioner. So if this is your first time than you are ok. I would suggest telling your fiancee that there could be an extended wait time for your case due to name checks. This way anything sooner is a blessing. Goodluck!

Frank, I think you misunderstood. There was something kind of ironic in the way the sentence sounded i.e. domestic violence = kill me. That's all Devilette meant . . .

In any event, everyone filing the I-129F is required to answer the IMBRA questions. You didn't shoot yourself in the foot if you simply provided the required information.

As Andy stated, "convictions are not grounds for denial unless you are a multi petitioner. So if this is your first time than you are ok. I would suggest telling your fiancee that there could be an extended wait time for your case due to name checks. This way anything sooner is a blessing".

You have to check the legal definition and see if the website through which you've met meets such definition. If it does, then you've met through a marriage broker.

(4) INTERNATIONAL MARRIAGE BROKER

.—

(A) IN GENERAL .—The term ‘‘international marriage broker’’ means a corporation, partnership, business, individual, or other legal entity, whether or not organized under any law of the United States, that charges fees for providing dating, matrimonial, matchmaking services, or social referrals between United States citizens or nationals or aliens lawfully admitted to the United States as permanent residents and foreign national clients by providing personal contact information or otherwise facilitating communication between individuals.

(B) EXCEPTIONS

.—Such term does not include—

(i) a traditional matchmaking organization of a cultural or religious nature that operates on a nonprofit

basis and otherwise operates in compliance with the laws of the countries in which it operates, including

the laws of the United States; or

(ii) an entity that provides dating services if its principal business is not to provide international dating

services between United States citizens or United States residents and foreign nationals and it charges

comparable rates and offers comparable services to all individuals it serves regardless of the individual’s

gender or country of citizenship.

---

(6) PERSONAL CONTACT INFORMATION

.—

(A) IN GENERAL

.—The term ‘‘personal contact information’’ means information, or a forum to obtain such informa-

tion, that would permit individuals to contact each other, including—

(i) the name or residential, postal, electronic mail, or instant message address of an individual;

(ii) the telephone, pager, cellphone, or fax number, or voice message mailbox of an individual; or

(iii) the provision of an opportunity for an in-person meeting.

(B) EXCEPTION

.—Such term does not include a photograph or general information about the background or interests of a person.

lets hope that you dont have to wait for long. offcourse they do require the all inf they need to know. from personal life to a social life. bcz they are bringing in a new person to the US soil so they have to be careful about everything. even if you are arrested, sentenced and then get free from prison. you lead your life in a good way after that then no law would stop you to lead your life in a peaceful way. just be posative and explain your fiance what happened. bcz consular off might ask about your perrsoanlity so she should be prepared to answer everything.

WE MET ON YAHOO IN AVIETNAM CHAT ROOM IN 2004?SO DO YOU AGREE THAT I DIDNT NEED TO SEND THAT IMFORMATION ?

If you answered the IMBRA questions and you already sent in the information, there's no reason for concern. If it was necessary, you already sent it. If it wasn't, it won't hurt you.

Name checks are extra security checks that sometimes happen randomly. There's no proof you'll go through this - try not to worry since it is out of your hands.

Yeah, I guess Yahoo chat is not a marriage broker according to the legal definition. So, you should have checked 'no' where it asks whether you have met through one.
