I am wondering about the I-134 Affidavit of Support... I have a low paying job but I have a co-sponsor who makes above the poverty level... Is my employment going to affect getting my fiance here? What if I dont have a job and just a co sponsor? How does Casablanca look at these cases? Any information would be appreciated

I am not working right now... I am currently completing my last year of college and hope to find work this summer/fall 2010. I am relying heavily on my co-sponsor, whom is willing to help as needed. I think what the government is looking for is that your (or my) fiancé will not become a public burden to the USA. They want to know that he will be taken care of and not start to receive food stamps, welfare, etc... I don't think it really matters WHO gives him that support.

Salaam,

As long as you have a co-sponsor, you are good to go.

For our interview (Spring 2008) they didn't even look at the affidavit of support... but definitely make sure he has it with him at the interview just in case.

Good luck!

Pls take a minute to think this thru abou the money situation. You need to be stable in YOUR life and ready to accept the responsibility of another person. Yes it can be done im sure but its hard right now, jobs are hard to find etc etc it is a big responsibility. I had a secure job and house paid for and it is still a struggle. He arrived in January and tried one job that didnt last, now on another that looks good in time, just saying its not easy...

Nope, didn't even look at it... and i think this goes for other K1 filers as well...? Anyone want to chime in?

But definitely have the affidavit all ready, you never know what kind of boomerang they will toss at you during the interview...

Also, it was helpful to have all that documentation squared away, because when you prepare to Adjust Status, you will have to prove that you can afford to sponsor him. Having all your tax returns & bank statements handy is a good thing.

But to answer your original question: As long as you have a co-sponsor, you are fine.

Of coure they look at it. They may not look at it in front of you, but they do look at it.

Interviews tend to be the time where they address everything they've looked at up to that point as well.

Processing for Casa is different than that for Egypt.

Also keep in mind K1 requirements in Casa are different from the other visa types: K3, DCF, etc...

Sorry, it won't let me edit my post...

But all that being said: My experience was in Spring 2008, don't know what has changed since then... And definitely bring the Affidavit, just in case they ask for it... or if they ask your Habib any questions about sponsorship, he'll have documented proof for his answer.

My husband's interview was Dec 2008 and they wouldn't even look at the I-134. It wasn't listed on his Packet 3 as being required but I sent it anyway. They didn't want it.

Well I am under the impression that the I-134 gets sent to my fiance to go into his packet he takes to the consulate with him... Do they take your papers that you bring in with you during the interview? Or do the guys just take all of it back home with them? This is pretty confusing stuff lol..

Yes, i think if i remember correctly, you send him all the appropriate documents, and he gets together the things he needs from the Moroccan side, and he brings them all in to the interview. They may keep them, or not... or just some of them...

It is very confusing, indeed!
