We just had one of our firefighters here in California charged with being an arsonist....and he was an actual fire investigator. Like I said, his story as presented doesn't add up. If I were the detective, I'd first start with trying to fill all the gaping holes in his account.

1) why could he not arrive at the firehouse much earlier than they and seek refuge within,?

2) why did he exit his car when they were hostile and at his location?

3) why didn't he call on his cell phone, and secure assistance from the other firefighters in the station?

4) why did he stop with a hostile group so close to him,?

5) why didn't he call the police?

Too many episodes of Colombo when I was an impressionable yute. Seriously though, I think I would have made an excellent detective because my bullsh!t meter works pretty well....maybe not 100 % accurate, but accurate enough to keep me from being a dye in the wool Fox News Viewer sheep.

I don't disagee with it 100%, but I don't find much there I do agree with either. A lot of it is in Dennis Kucinich territory. Detectives work with probability. When a man's wife is reported missing, the husband is #1 suspect based on probability. What's the probability of 6 men stabbing a guy 2 times or following him on foot as he drives his car? His story doesn't add up.

I just heard the firefighters father on the radio. The fire station wasn't far from the restaurant.

LOL...I used to listen to it back in college, but not these days. While I'm proud to be considered liberal, my views are all over the spectrum as I imagine most people's are as well. I think it's funny that Charles even brought up the ACLU or any implication of my opinion here being motivated by politics because to me it is painfully obvious there are gaping holes in this story. In fact, the presumption of guilt that it was Hispanic men who assaulted him says more about people's bias here. Remember the woman who drove her car into a lake with her children in it? She claimed it was a black man who hijacked the car....gave a sketch and his 'mug' made it on the cover of many magazines. Then the detectives found holes in her story and she finally confessed. You all should try to remember that before jumping the gun on this one.

I was thinking of that story, too. "A black man stole my children." Caused a lot of hysteria, speculation about crime, race, carjackings, and it turned out there was no boogieman at all, just someone who nearly got away with driving her kids into a lake by inventing a villain.

If what the victim says is true that the attackers said 'we don't want no gringos around here', then it was racially motivated. You can post all sorts of past cases and details showing instances where it wasn't true, but that's superfluous here and doesn't amt to a hill of beans imo.

Really? So nothing lost in the fact that people just accepted Susan Smith's allegation that it was a bad black man who drowned her kids for face value? Like I said in that other thread yesterday, sometimes it's better to not form a definitive opinion about something until we know all the facts, especially if that opinion is about a racial issue. That to me says a lot about people's own prejudice. We all have prejudice...but my contention is that you don't embrace that prejudice...you try to remove it from the equation.
